Firestar looks awesome. Please, please , please be another cheap Avenger. We need someone to quickly sneak into the backfield to roast the medics. We miss Quicksilver.
Hulk looks intimidating. I hope he's a REV without any team affiliations. A look at Hulk's solo career, if you will.
Giant Man looks like a giant dork. I think he supposed to though. He's just begging for Captain America to sock him in the gut. He is very well detailed.
Black Queen looks good. It's probably my faulty memory, but I don't remember Phoenix/Jean flying too much at that stage of her career.
Spidey looks good. I just hope they can give us something new for his dial.

Man the masterpiece will have the same stats as the other spider-man figures from the set. I wish he was different. Wow not much to go for now since someone who has the REV figure will have the same stats. Oh well more money to save buying boosters instead of the Masterpiece figure.

Maybe its because its the most recent, but this Spidey pose looks the best.
The Hulk looks mean as ever. His pose reminds me of one done by the Thing once on an FF cover I believe. It looks good on the Hulk too.
As for Giant Man, although the sculpt is accurately done, I have never liked the Ultimate Giant Man. He looks like a dork. And all the dremeling I could do would not make him into the Classic Giant Man I want. So I don't think he would work even as a Mod, at least not easily.
It will be great to have Firestar, the Marauders, the Reavers and Alpha Flight. And with the Goblin Queen, the Hellfire club may not be far behind. I hope I can stand the wait.
Mr Sinister gets his Marauders!!!

Yeah, I know, but with the feats and battlefield conditions hopefully, it will actually feel new and add some unpredictability and spice back to the game.
Now if they only give out some of these new feats and conditions at Gen Con :)
Well, at least with this set I only need to get 2 Giant Man, one to try to get modded to the "REAL" version. This is compared to Unleashed where I wanted to get as many Bat Sentries as possible.

Amen, brother!
I can't go too overboard, because I think that WK probably got a lot right here, BUT - They had a chance to win BIG points with us, with the Giant Man version we really want - now it's sort of good and bad.
My overall take - Good: Black Queen, Firestar, having a Giant Man, Alpha Flight, less remakes. Bad: Hulk being gray (because the sculpt is better than most), Giant Man being odd, no rumored Invaders, this set's inception marks the end of Clobberin' Time. Huh?: Reavers, Marauders (Don't know them, so I could care less) Won't do any good complaining, but did we really need: The umpteenth Hulk and Spider Man.
Sounds pretty promising, but I really thought we would have Invaders. All of the other disappointments are pretty much what you'd expect.

No need to buy 2 cases. He'll be cheap enough... just like the Bat Sentry is now.
I wish they didn't have to pimp spidey so hard. I mean, yeah he's Marvels flagship characters but there are only so many ways to combine l/c, inc, and supersenses.
I totally dig the new Hulk sculpt but I'm curious to see what ground they will tread with this version that hasn't been done already. Like others have mentioned, 'Charge' is the most obvious addition.
Otherwise, meh. I'm more excited about the feats and battlefield conditions than anything else.

Reavers, Marauders were during a really good story arc in Uncanny X-Men, Fall of the Mutants. Which means we'll probably get another Sabretooth, since he was on the Marauders. Reavers were a bunch of Cyborgs that went pretty much on a killer spree, killing much of the Morlocks. Would be cool if they make a plan of a game around the fall of the mutants. Maybe we'll finally get Havok and Polaris, since they were a big at that time.

Okay, can I get a brief Whoclix-like description of who the Reavers and the Marauders are?
Marauders:
The Marauders were a team of superhuman mutants who were organized by the enigmatic Mr. Sinister and who served him as assassins. Mr. Sinister sent the Marauders to slaughter the Morlocks, a community of mutants living underground in the New York City area. During the “mutant massacre” the Marauders clashed with the X-Men, the New Mutants, and Thor, but nonetheless succeeded in killing most of the Morlocks. The Marauders have battled the X-Men on subsequent occasions as well. Although three Marauders – Blockbuster, Prism, and Riptide – seemingly died during the “mutant massacre” they all apparently later returned to life. Exactly how these Marauders survived remains a mystery.
Reavers:
The Reavers are a team of criminal cyborgs (human beings with mechanical parts in place of some of their organic ones). The current team of Reavers are dedicated to the destruction of the mutant X-Men, and a number of them especially want to take revenge on one particular X-Man, Wolverine.
The first of the Reavers to encounter any of the X-Men was Donald Pierce, the former White King of the Inner Circle of the Hellfire Club, who bears a cyborg arm. Once, when Wolverine broke into the Club's Manhattan mansion, he severed Pierces cyborg arm from the rest of his body, Months later, Pierce rebelled against the rest of the Inner Circle, which was dominated by mutants led by Black King Sebastian Shaw. Pierce abducted Shaw's aide Tessa and held her captive. However, Pierce was thwarted by Professor Charles Xavier and his new team, the New Mutants. Tessa regained her freedom, and Pierce was expelled from membership in the Inner Circle.
Three other members of the Reavers, Cole, Macon, and Reese, were formerly mercenaries employed by the inner Circle. On the same night that he first met Pierce, Wolverine also encountered a squad of Hellfire Club mercenaries who had been sent to find and kill him. Wolverine lashed out at three of them--Cole, Macon, and Reese--with his adamantium claws, leaving the three of them severely wounded. The Inner Circle then had the three man converted into cyborgs. Cole, Macon, and Reese took Wolverine prisoner when the Inner circle attacked the X-Men's Westchester County headquarters months later, but Wolverine overcame the three men once more.
Lady Deathstrike was herself transformed into a cyborg by the other dimensional being called Spiral. She then led Cole, Macon, and Reese in an unsuccessful attempt to slay Wolverine in Manhattan.
Bonebreaker was a cyborg who had no legs but instead traveled on wheels, Skullbuster had robotic legs, and Pretty Boy had robotic arms that could greatly extend in length. Pretty Boy could also project fiber-optic filaments from his eyes that could reach into a victim's brain and reprogram his or her mind, altering his or her personality.

Reavers are a group of Cyborg killers composed of ex-Hellfire guards that were diced up by Wolverine. They are led by Donald Pierce and Lady Deathstrike.
Maruaders are a group of Morlock killers composed of evil (and some not-so-evil) mutants organized by Mister Sinister during the "Mutant Massacre" storyarc.

Question for any WK reps that may be reading. When you say: The set includes 97 characters, including the debuts of teams like the Reavers™, the Marauders™, and Alpha Flight™. , does that mean these will be new team abilities, or just members of those specific teams are included in the set?

Which Reaver is Cole? Prettyboy, Skullbuster or Bonebreaker?
Giant Man looks so cool!!!
My opinion:
Firestar: Love her! And I always did like this original costume better than the current one.
Grey Hulk: Another Hulk version for my Hulk collection. The stance of the figure looks alot like the stance the Hulk had when Bruce FIRST changed into the Hulk eons ago. I am assuming this Hulk will be the very first version of old gray-skin. Therefore he will not be that powerful.
Spidey: I like the sculpt, but looks too much like the Ultimates expansion set of the webhead.
Blade: Nice sculpt, but I was never a fan of his.
Ultimate Giant-Man: NICE! My Ultimate team is nearing completion. All that's needed: Wasp and Nick Fury. Although, U Nick Fury and U Wasp make perfect substitutes.
Black Queen: Loved the original storyline, but I don't think it required making Jean as a Black Queen figure was necessary. But, I will hold off final judgement until I see what exactly she winds up as power level-wise.
Feat Cards: ehh... just making more stuff that I have to carry around or store. I thought heroclix was supposed to be KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid)?
New TA's: Nice! I am really hoping for all the original Flighters: Guardian, Puck, Sasquatch, Aurora, Northstar, Shaman, Marrina, Snowbird and Talisman.
Looks like I have to start saving for a case. ;)

Great, a figure of a wife beater. Just what I wanted.
Actually, everyone loves mainstream Hank Pym and he was known to be as much of a wife beater as he is in Ultimates. Check out old Avengers issues. You know, back when Wasp and Scarlet Witch literally left the room to make food and drinks while the men talked out the Avengers problems, then went off to sew up new costumes. I wish I was making this up, but it's so, so true.
-S
Reavers and Mauraders, I could think of better teams than that....how about The Thunderbolts or New Warriors, heck what about an Age of Apocolypse X-men team.
Spider-man masterpiece is cool but this whole ultra-rare gimmick to get me to buy who knows how many cases just to get my hands on one sucks, but the ultra rare Giant man is fine by me I hate the Ultimates version. The old Avengers Giant man or Atlas from the Thunderbolts would be better by far
Hulk looks cool...hope it's REV, all the good ones seem to be Uniques.
Wizkids needs to remember that some of us like to play the game for the game but can't afford to by cases or spend $30.00 for one fiq on E-bay. Uniques are a good idea but lets have less some of the cooler sculps REV

Hulk looks like the cover to Jeph Loeb's and Tim Sale's Hulk: Gray #1. I'm not fond of their color books, but the sculpt is a good representation. I expect we'll finally get a Hulk with Quake, even though the Savage Hulk deserved it more.
If this is meant to represent the gray Hulk after leaving Berengetti's casino, then he's a very unpleasant character. He broke the Grey Gargoyle's arms, after all. He should also have a whole lot of regeneration, as he showed in his fight with Wolverine in Dallas. Personally, I'd like some Pulse Wave, to show how well he uses the thunderclap.
I don't mind another Spider-Man. I just pray they won't stick an archenemy base under him. I hate rubbing the numbers off with my thumbs.
Firestar's costume is fine, but I'm not fond of the eyes. Skin tone and baby blues underneath her mask are what I'd hoped for.

Actually that's the old one (though not as old as the one they chose) from her New Warrior days.
Current Firestar's costume looks sorta like her old costume with a few minor differences.
But regardless, I'm very happy to have her in this set! I love the sculpt and can't wait to make the Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends team. This is by far the most I've been excited for a Marvel set. November can't get here soon enough!

I mean: good luck (can't edit)
Ooh, Giant Man looks bigger than the Bat Sentry.
And I'm really trying to picture that Blade with only 2 legs, but that picture is really misleading.
Spider-Man - Gahhhh! Seen enough of him! Of course the fact that I saw the movie 3 times might have something to do with it.
Just gimme Cable & Deadpool, mmm kay?
I don't know. I think that this announcement pissed me off more than it excited me. I mean, one, they introduce lame teams like the Reavers, Marauders, and Alpha Flight, who cares? On top of that, they do it right AFTER the set that included Sinester and Vindicator, a Marauder and Alpha if I ever saw one. Why couldn't those wait until they could get it right?
Then they have giant man, who's the creepy wife beating giantman that nobody liked.
Then they have "masterpiece figures", as if regular uniques weren't already such a pain in the ### to get ahold of, why do they feel that rarity is such a desirable thing? I want COMMONESS. I want ALL figures to be a dime a dozen so that you actually have a chance to get one for less that $50.
The Feat cards and Battlefield cards interest me, as well as the pogs, if they have good team abilities for dirt cheap, but overall I see very little that excites me here.
No "Flying" Web Slinging Spiderman
No Exiles (yet)
No Age of Apocalypse (yet)
No Deadpool
No Cable
No Scarlet Witch or Quicksilver replacements
Nothing particularly interesting.
I don't think it'll be a terrible set, they just haven't said anything that's interesting about it yet (at least not in a good way).

Just an afterthought if there going to do Alpha Flight (finally) then why in the blue blazes did they make Vindicator an Avenger?!?!?!
VERY nice sculpts. I really Love the Giant-Man fig; only problem is his goggles might be better if painted to look opaque, like shades, instead of trying to paint in his baby blues and giving the fig a bug-eyed look.;)
Spidey looks great. I only hope that they don't repeat the Ultimates Wolverine blunder and give MM Spidey an arch-enemy base.
Assuming that's Blade:) , it's about time they gave him a genuinely cool sculpt rather than that lame Infinity Challenge one.
Nice Hulk, but I may have to paint him green.
And chalk me up as one of the players who would have prefered Firestar's newer Avengers costume, but oh well, it's still nicely done. Spiderman and Iceman eat your hearts out.
As for Hellfire Club Jean Grey, well, *ahem*:o , nice *ahem* sculpt. My White Queen is overjoyed.

Here's my idea for the Marauders TA:
(Optional) When figure is KO'd, roll 1d6. The figure is healed by the resulting roll and placed anywhere in the owner's starting area. The opposing player gets the points for KO'ing the figure each time.
This represents the Marauders' coming back as clones. It could come in handy or it could hand victory to your opponent.

The Giant Man should have the same rarity as the Bat Sentry. I'm not liking the Firestar sculpt, small grip, I liked the one she had in the later New Warriors. But it's cool to see her.
Black Queen Jean should be powerful. I'm liking seeing her. And the spider-man looks cool, but I'm hoping its a cool unique and not an REV.
Is anyone surprised that there is a new Blade with his third movie coming out? Hope he's a bit more playable than the older one.
Over all, I'm getting a case absolutely, and this may be the first set where I split a second case with someone too.

Hopefully, Blade will be bad-arsed enough to actually take on a bunch of Vampire Lackeys.
Hopefully, a new REV Hulk with some CHARGE thrown in, and some Quake and such. Pulsewave, maybe - I'd buy that for a dollar. Gray Rookie, Green EV.
Maybe you'll get that 18 DEF with SS Spidey everyone's crying for. Although I could not care less about chasing a 'Masterpiece' edition. I hate chase figures, and I really hate pointless chase figures.
Firestar, yay! I like her, and I like both outfits, so I'm happy. NEVER MAKE JUSTICE ASTROVIK HE SUCKS A LOT. THIS I COMMAND.
Black Queen Jean Grey - this better be a Unique. She only lasted in this form for an issue tops, I think.
Ultimate Giant-Man - Sure, why not. Yeah, I think I would have preferred the regular one, or heck, Goliath even, but he'll be fun.
I'm getting antsy to play a Marauders team now, though, and I won't be able to for a few more sets. Harpoon? Isn't he just a guy with a harpoon and Gambit's powers? MAYBE THEY'RE BROTHERS EEW GAMBIT AWFUL. Arclight, yeah, groovy. I want Riptide so Colossus can kill him. Scalphunter, Blockbuster and Prism. Scrambler and Vertigo, too. Led by Sinister. Yeah, I'd play 'em.
Deadpool. MODOK. YES.

Well I will admit that I know very little about Alpha Flight, but I think the Vindicator got his power from the suit, right. So basically both versions of the vindicator would have the same kind of powers. Why make two sets of REVs or Uniques with similar powers and the same TA in the same set?
And as far as Sinister and the Marauders, he never really went out with them on the missions he ordered them to take. He's always been a sit back ion the shadows kinda guy. So that and the fact that he was a loner can loosely justify him not having the TA.

Sorry. I instantly hate anyone with that horrible 90s Gambit-Liefeldy headgear thing going. It's not a mask - you can see his face! It's not a hat - his hair's still flopping around and in his face! What's the point, you may ask? TO LOOK AS STUPID AS POSSIBLE AT ALL TIMES. I hate Gambit (albeit for many more reasons than this). Even though I liked what Busiek did with Justice, blecchh. This might be why I have an aversion to Cyclops, too, these days.
Justice would make Avengers more viable, yah, but Ick. Just use Moondragon or something.

I like what I see. Do we really need enough Reavers and Marauders to merit two different Team Abilities though? Okay, I suppose they've got to keep cranking out new X-Men related figures every couple of sets, but with so many other options for teams that haven't been done, do we really need to take two TA slots for these guys? I suppose there are a couple of interesting Marauders, but the Reavers? Aside from Donald Pierce I can't recall a one of them. (Pierce did end up with them, didn't he? It's been so long, my memory's faulty.)

This is true (and I actually fit into both categories), but for those that want the non-Ultimate version, they usually get that, because the percentage of Ult. to Non-Ult. leaves the fans of the "newer" universe in the dust.
Not sure what you meant by the second part of your post, but either way, there have been GREAT stories in both universes. I say, keep them coming, from both universes. (Can't please everyone. I'll save my complaining for wishing Jon L would do more research before he creates a dial for someone he doesn't know.)
Wow... now that's preview
love the fact the majority are new characters, awesome
Good scuplts all around expect for Giant Man, he looks a little goofy....he just seems too happy, may have to do with the bighter colours on the clix compared to comic, (can't wait to recreate that fight between him and Cap lol)
Firestar looks awesome, as does Jean as the Black Queen
I hope Blade has ranged attacks and regen, and a little boost to take out multiple vampire lackey's
Looking forward to the cards and stuff that should be cool
can't say I looking foward to another Spider-man or Hulk from Hulk: Grey, but I understand why they are here.
Maurders are weird choice for a team, but Reavers......lol that's funny, should just make a Hellfire Club TA and been done with it. A pity Vindicator didn't get the Alpha Flight TA,
I WILL trade the mastercraft spidey away if I get it. I prefer clix to play in games, so i'm sure it'll find a good home
can't wait till Nov now, Still hoping for a Dazzler :p
the hulk looks like he's from hulk #1 back in the 60's
We need 2099 figures!!! Even more because of the new 5 one-shot 2099 titles that are comming, so a 2099 Spider!!!
BTW: I still hope Maestro is in this set as Unique. The new hulk could be REV and Maestro Unique....
Another Spider-Man - Why?
Another Hulk - Why?
Another Jean Grey - Why?
And if you're going to do a version from the Dark Phoenix storyline, why not make DARK PHOENIX??!?!?!?
I like that we're getting Reavers and Marauders, but I'm not sure the Reavers need their own team ability. Hope they do the cyborgs justice with some cool sculpts.
SouthStar
07/15/2004, 22:59
The thing is... the sets seem to focus on two to three new figs for each new team. I mean, c'mon, look at the Suicide Squad. We got Killer Frost and Deadshot. For the Morlocks, we got Callisto and some generic mutant. For the Serpent Society, we got Sidewinder, Princess Python and Anaconda. We will only get 3 Marauders, 2 Reavers, and 4 Alpha Flight members. My predictions?
Marauders: Scalphunter, Arclight, Riptide
Reavers: Pretty Boy, Bonebreaker
Alpha Flight: Snowbird, Northstar, Guardian, Puck
We shouldn't get too many others. Also, if we're getting Firestar, we'll also get Vance Astro.

Nope, no Justice (just check Boneyard's list). And that is a GOOD thing. The majority of us Firestar fans can't stand Justice. Why the writers ever hooked her up with him is mind boggling. But I guess they couldn't exactly build on the television show where she and Spider-Man seemed to be developing something. Which makes sense considering Angelica Jones' appearance was based on Mary Jane.

I wouldn't get to excited about them saying the majority of the figures will be ones we haven't had yet. I'd not be pleased if it was 51% of the figures were new.....It should be closer to 75% of the figures we haven't had any versions of.
I hope there is a New Warrior team ability. It looks doubtful though. I think the only way I'll get my Darkhawk is either if he is a New Warrior or an Avenger. Hopefully it's be the New Warrior....

Let's try that again...
THE GOOD:
-Alpha Flight gets a TA! About time, and they really deserve it. Marauders are okay as well.
-More Bystanders might be cool, or they could really clog up the game. I'm very curious about how these Feat cards will work- might be good.
-It's cool that they are tackling the big people, but I just hope that they continue the trend and also eventually give us Atlas, Regular Giant Man, Goliath, and all the rest.
-A new Blade is a goodb thing (Ranged attack, EW, SE, Regen), and Firestar is good.
THE BAD:
-The Reavers are getting a TA? How absolutely pathetic! Do even hardcore X-men fans like the Reavers? And they had what, 6 members (including Deathstrike). This is worse than the Marauders. I coukd name a dozen teams more deserving of their own TA. Heck, Big Hero 6 would be better. :ermm:  Hellfire Club would have been much cooler.
-Why or why do we keep getting the 'standard' Spidey costume over and over. As others have said, there are so many possible alternates. Even putting him on a flight stand would have been a nice addition. Oh well, perhaps he'll get Perplex this time...
THE UGLY: -Actually the sculpts look pretty good. Lets just hope that Spidey and Jean are Us and not REVs. Although I wouldn't mind a new REV Hulk if he's done well. Quake, Charge, Flurry, Impervious...and preferably a quicker "Hulk up".

Sculpts look great but for a set that was advertised as having characters from alternate realities, I don't see any.....
Must look at boneyards list I guess (oh the horror;) )
But joining in the Spiderman and Hulk chior, yay, yet another version of the same character.....
For everyone harpin' on firestar though I like her costume for one good reason, MODDING, the body's great, no extravagant costume design, just a simple skin tight (yum!) spandex body suit.....easy for choppin up and making your own superheroine....(or hero)
Looks good though all around!!!

07/16/2004, 06:39
well..
Giant Man I expected to be Ultimates because of the new Ultimates team, though I don't want 1 I feel for you guys that prefer the originals...
Firestar !! awesome and a great sculpt, tight suit though.;)
here's to hoping she gets Spiderman TA in 1 of the versions.
Spiderman, well looks good I prefer the statue (CM-spidey) instead of the plastic/cone and was hoping for Cosmic spidey.
Jean Grey as Black Queen: GREAT ! I just wished the Hellfire club would have gotten a TA.
Marauders, will probably get the Brotherhood TA (like Sabretooth)
Reavers, well like the Hellfire club will probably get NO TA.
Alpha Flight: since Vindicator has already been made will probably get the Avengers TA
Mr.Sinister only ordered the Marauders never really fought with them, so NO TA isn't so far fetched.
I prefer getting the leaders before the whole team, instead of getting the team (MoE !!) and having to wait some years for their leader (except for when they should have had a Team Ability).

That's what I was wondering.
When DC Cosmic Justice was announced, they printed some statement ot the effect of new powers being introduced.
Turns out, they were just powers that had appeared in Marvel but not in DC.
We didn't get any brand new powers until Unleashed.
And, didn't Jon-L say in an interview some comment about there only being so much room on the PAC, and about not adding any more new powers or TAs for a while?

i can't wait to get my hands on a new gambit ( GOD help wizkids if they screw this up!) but then again you can't really screw up on gambit cuz he's just to danm good:)
based on wizkids streak of making a fig then having a ta that is perfect fot that fig in the next set, i have a strong fealing that the set after MM will feature Midnight Suns among others.

That effectively eliminates the possibility of collecting a complete set. Especially for me as I have yet to pull the Spider-Man unique in any set.

Andrew It sounds like this will be a special "chase" figure for collector's only. Kind of like foil cards in MTG. But that is just a guess.

This is not actually a mystery any longer. It has been well established, in several X-Men books, that all of the current Marauders are probably clones. Mr. Sinister has long been at the forefront of cloning and so each of the Marauders can basically be disposable since he simply produces a clone to replace any casualties. I believe Riptide has actually died more than once.

So then, since we're getting Firestar in MM, then whatever the next set is will get the New Warriors TA? Wouldn't surprise me.
And another example- Critical Mass had Moonstone, and then the Thunderbolts TA was introduced in....wait on..:devious: GRRR
I was thinking about it this arvo, and does anyone else think that WK might be trying to appease us from all the bad press they've gotten over the last year by adding in all this new stuff with Mutant Mayhem? Or perhaps 'distract' would be a better choice of words. Let's see, there's:
- Marvel first double-sized figure
- Feat cards, whatever the heck they are (sounds like they're adapting the battlecards idea that players came up with)
- More Bystanders
- A special masterpiece ultra rare figure
- At least 3 new TAs (is Invaders confirmed also?)
That's a lot to introduce in one set. Almost looks like an act of desperation. I thought they had resolved to add something new in each new set, not a whole bunch of new things in each set. If they continue at this rate, it might get very messy and complicated very quickly.

I am one of those people who will patiently be waiting until the next DC expansion before I buy any Mutant Mayhem boosters. Nothing here has changed that. The ONLY thing that could change that is Howard the Duck. I'm sure Mutant Mayhem will still be available.
Given that, I still have a few comments.
1. Blade: this was a good idea. I never use the Blade fig I have from the first set because he's so hard to turn without reaming on the sculpt, which is precariously perched on one fragile leg. I'd hope to get this guy even if he had the exact same stats.
2. Giant-Man: I like this. I hope this bodes well for giant figs in all future sets. For the record, Ultimate Hank Pym is far more brutal than the Hank Pym we all know and love. Regular Hank has, for years, been consistently improving his own character and making up for what he did. Only the most recent Avengers writers have strayed from this.
3. The Reavers.
And you all laughed when I suggested the Circus of Crime as a new TA. You all thought that was far too stupid a team for Heroclix. Guess who's laughing now.
4. Masterpiece Spider-Man.
I'm not an obsessive collector, so the rarity of this character doesn't bother me. I don't really care if I get one or not. As a concept, I think it's not a bad idea. What gets me, though, is the idea of it being profesionally painted. Others have already pointed out the silly wording of this, which implies that all other pieces are being painted by unpaid volunteers, but what I really wonder is how much different will this piece look from the regular Unique version? Unless the Unique is done like some of the poopy Critical Mass figs, I can't see that a professional paint job would make it look vastly different.
5. Marauders and Alpha Flight
With Vindicator and Mr. Sinister in the last set, it appears that Wizkids is lacking a little bit in foresight. Those two characters are not just minor characters in their respective teams, but the essential heartbeats of those teams. I can only surmise that when they decided on making those characters in the last set, they weren't even thinking one set ahead on what they were going to do. I find that kind of strange. I could understand if this were the case with characters released 2 or 3 sets before the TA, but only one set out is pretty bad. Maybe this means we'll be getting Midnight Sons and New Warriors in the very next Marvel set just to irk Blade and Firestar fans. Wizkids, I'm sorry if this sounded a little snarky, but I only make this criticism to suggest a little more foresight on your part. I'm sure it is something you are very capable of doing.
I'm really hoping they have some better figs waiting in the wings - it's hard to get excited when 4 out of the 6 figures shown are redone characters...

This is just pure rationialization. How many issues has Hank had in the Ultimates (compared to the regular Avengers) to try and make up for what he did? How do you know he won't do the same in Ultimates when given a chance to catch his breath?

Just wanted to further clarify the clarification. Sabretooth, while having suffered many "supposed deaths" during his tenure as a Marauder, was saved by his healing factor each time. It's that same healing factor that has prevented Sinister from successfully cloning Sabretooth.

On the subject of Gambit.
How come he have an attack of 9.
Troia 9, expensive cost
Beast 9, Iceman 9
and Scourge get 11, ridiculously cheap cost.
Aquaman get 12, cheap cost
Bullseye get 12, very cheap cost
Why is that????
I don't get it at all.
Who in Wizkids decided which characters get what attack and cost.
I know there is a program out there that Wizkids use to determine the cost value of each powers and TA.
But it seem that someone else in Wizkids are bias on determine the value of certain characters in both DC and Marvel.
Gambit should have gotten at-least 10 with Perplex.
Or atleast closer to Bullseye value.
Troia goes toes to toes with Superman robot before she die...She should have gotten 10 if not 11 for her near 100 points cost.
Same with Beast, and Iceman.
I can not believe Scourge can out attack one to one Troia, Gambit, Beast, and Iceman.

Eek. Looks like I stumbled across the line into becoming a "flamer." Sorry about that. I generally don't like behaving like a jerk. Gambit tends to bring my surly snottiness to the fore. Technically, though, this post was just showing off new figs in the set, not necessarily soliciting opinions about who you'd like to see in the rest of the set - although the only clear answer is MODOK!
Although if you don't consider what I said about Gambit as 'stating an opinion,' then I guess that means I was stating facts, which I feel I was. (Huzzah, twisting words! SOPHISTRY, even!) Also, I'll note you give no actual defense of the character, just saying that you're allowed to like him, which, of course, you are. I think he's awful, which I'm also allowed to do. I also didn't state the 'facts' about Gambit for "no reason," as you suggest. I firmly believe that the sooner everybody realizes that Gambit sucks, the sooner he will go away and stop sucking so often, and thus life will be better for us all. It's more of a public service on my end. Your mileage may vary. Thus, a joyous and somtimes contentious exchange of ideas begins. Nothing personal is intended, and I'm sorry you took it that way.
Also, I burgle turds.

This set needs to hurry up and come out, because hopefully they'll announce (and preview) the new DC set!!!!!!!:devious:
Hopefully one of the feat cards will grant at least one figure the use of a wild card TA. this way all the older figures with no team or the wrong team can play with their respective teams,
Not terribly excited. The giant man figure doesn't even have the correct comic book proportions- super broad chest with narrow hips, increased musculature, etc. I would have prefered the original version, but I'm one who can accept the Ultimates versions of characters before the regular universe come out. But he does look like a tool.
As for a set that won't have a bunch of alternate versions of characters we already have, I'm not holding my breath, especially with a preview of 6 figures, 4 of which are alternate versions. But, I guess time and a figure list will tell.
Anyways, won't buy a case, probably won't even buy more that a couple boxes. Just cherry pick the interesting figures off of ebay.

I freely admit MODOK is dopey. But he's that totally awesome kind of dopey that rules. I would seriously have a hard time building any team that DIDN'T feature MODOK if I had him available. And he would hire Deadpool a lot.

Woohoo Marauders. I love those guys. Curious as to which ones will make the cut for the game though?? Would love to see at least Arclight, Harpoon, Prism, Scalphunter, and Blockbuster. For some odd reason I wouldnt hold my breath for Scrambler, Vertigo or Riptide.
And with the Marauders being introduced I'm really hoping to see a Polaris REV in this sent then. R & V for X-men, and the E can be a Marauder for when she was possessed by Malice. I wonder if they would even have her click with the Malice name on it.
Woohoo
Sinister could be AoA'ed with the Maurauders TA
Vindicator could have her green geothermal suit (really nice) with the TA
Odd that their wasn't a bit more forsight in their dial creation though
Had they previewed Deadpool... they may have crashed the site... so this is a good start...
Hopefully the previews come out before the set does!

i'm actually dissapointed with giant-man. he's WAY too small. shouldn't he be like sentinel sized? the figure here is merely twice as tall as a regular clix which is about 12 feet, we'll say. i dunno about the ultimate character, but the original giant-man could get himself up to 100 feet, but mostly stayed around 25 ft (according to marvel directory). like i said, idunno about the ultimate verison, but looking at pictures, he looks to be ENORMOUS, probably well over 25 feet. i dunno, 12 foot giant-man is kinda dissapointing, but at least it looks cool and the delivery to acquire him is fun.

What kind of "high school come back" is that?!?!
Come on, dude! You're letting him yank your chain!
Also, in regards to M.O.D.O.K.: A Jack Kirby creation, he was created in the 1960's, as a conceptual mirror opposite to Captain America's "peak-human" super-soldier acrobatic fighting concept. He is a radically genetically modified human, given heightened intelligence and psychic powers, while from the out-set seeming like what today we would call "bi-polar"; he'd suddenly shift from a stoic, calculating detatchment to violently emotional and psychotic.
You WISH Gambit had been or is as fully formed as a character concept.
Just my opinions. Take 'em or leave 'em.

Wow, what a sweet preview.
Giant Man is lame. We all could have used the regular version, but I guess that will have to wait for another set down the road, as will other characters we're all waiting to see.
Well, this is a Mutant Mayhem set, so it makes sense to see so many X-Men related villains from the 80's and early 90's. The Reavers should be cool, and the Marauders also. The Black Queen looks sweet, and I guess there are some more Inner Circle types coming down the road.
I hope Namor is in this set, but something tells me he'll be in a more mainstream Marvel set, as opposed to an X-Men set.
I don't understand why they couldn't hold off on Vindicator until the Alpha Flight team was created. How silly is that? I wonder how small the Puck sculpt will be?
Funny, the Hulk looks relatively slender, almost like that brief Peter David storyline called Countdown (IIRC) where Hulk gets poisoned by some idiot named Madman and as a result the Hulk keeps losing body mass to the point where he's only slightly bigger than Banner normally but with grey skin.
I really hope the next Marvel set is a mainstream Marvel set that has lots of non-X-Men in it. Mind you, I own a complete run of Uncanny X-Men from #137 to current, so you can't say I hate the X-Men exactly.

Sorry it took so long to respond to this. For those who don't care, please skip to the next post, which I'm sure will be quite interesting.
Actually that doesn't make my point moot. I didn't say I would wait until HtD was made before buying any Marvel expansions. I only said that I would be waiting until DC expansions are made before buying Marvel expansions. I cited Howard as the only character I wanted bad enough to change my mind on that.
Shame on you Nedleeds for comparing Howard the Duck to Captain Carrot. These characters are only similar in the most superficial way. Howard the Duck was a bold and clever comic that included some very biting social commentary. Furthermore, he was intimately and consistently a part of the Marvel Universe, often teaming up with and meeting other mainstream Marvel characters. Captain Carrot was a funny animal book which derived it's humor mostly from novelty rather than actual being clever. It was only related to the regular DCU in the most peripheral manner.
Groovyboy, you are right that Ultimate Hank Pym has not had time to make up for what he did like the regular universe Pym has had. Maybe one day he will make things right. I do. though, think my point about Ultimate Pym being more brutal is more than just "rationalization." Whereas regular Pym struck his wife in the heat of passion a few times, a terrible thing to be sure, Ultimate Pym actually left his wife in a torturous situation that easily could have meant her death. Ultimate Pym is guilty of the same verbal and non-lethal abuse that regular Pym was guilty of. On top of that, Ultimate Pym is guilty of the torture of and possibly even the attempted murder of his wife. By my reckoning that means Ultimate Pym went a lot farther off the deep end than his regular universe counterpart and therefore has a lot farther to go before he can make up for his crimes.
BTW, it should be noted that I am NOT an Ultimates basher. I love that comic.

You gotta point there, Hatut. I think that's the point of the Ultimates, tho, to take the personalities of the regular characters and stretch them to extremes.
I dunno why everybody wants figs of Ultimate Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. They will never leave your team's starting area, and then take all the credit if you win...

I'd think Cajuns would hate Gambit, too, because he sucks. :)
Geez man, when did everyone become a bunch of overly sensitive little pansies?
Maybe you should start composing a written apology to the Cajuns explaining how much you don't hate them and that you just hate retarded Cajun stereotypes.

I need a speedball! But considering how we get a charcter before we get the team (Vindicator=Alpha Flight,Mr.Sinister=Mauraders,Sgt.Rock=Sudicde Squad, Marrow=Morlocks) Im guessing that Firestar will be a Spidey Alley but since we have her next set will have the NEW WARRIORS!! So then I can have my HSS,Perplex,Imperv, masked marvel! Also dont forget Nova (Bucket Head Rich Rider) with Charge, tough/imperv, Super Strength, and late dial Fury!....Maybe we can get the unique when Thanos turned him into childrens blocks!

Yeah, but Howard's movie still sucked hard.
But a clix of him would be cool........I havn't the strength to say no to any heroclix. I am wizkids little bee eye tea see what, in that regard.
:knockedou
They had better NOT make Howard the Duck . They'll ban Heroclix in Australia if that happened ...

In light of Mr. T-Burglar's remarks, is it acceptable for me to opine that Wolverine is also rather lame?

I'll actually concur that Wolverine has been overexposed to the point where he's become kinda lame. But he had some cool stuff. Gambit has had none. Gambit is a hodge-podge of other people's gimmicks rolled into one focus-group-pleasing tool.
I would like to see a storyline where MODOK actually bites Gambit's head off.

Mr. T-Burglar: what do you think of the whole "secondary mutations" thing that is running through the mutants? Is that any part of your dislike for Gambit?

Heya...
I've tried to digest the news and pictures before making any comments.
So here are my belated 2 cents:
Giant-Man: he's huge and a cool figure. To have such an innovative piece (size and rarity wise) being from the Ultimaze Universe is sort of a slap in the face of all the old-schoolers. Then again, I don't have to spend a fortune on such a rare piece :p
Blade: The sculpt rocks...and this time he's definitelystraight from the old Midnightsons related books. I dig that bigtime I tell ya. So...maybe he'll have some CCE or even EW? He better have a little bit of range this time.
Spider-Man: While this will be our 51st regular Spider-Man in a row, the introduction of the clear cones result in ever cooler sculpts. This one looks just awesome! Could have been the Ben Reiley version or Scarlet Spider for a change, though!
Firestar: I can almost smell it. Firestar in Mayhem but the New Warriors TA in the set after that. They did that with Marrow and Morlocks TA, Vindicator and Alpha Flight TA,...
The sculpt looks pretty good as much as I can tell. She'll be a nice piece with EE, RS, etc.
Black Queen(Jean Grey): Did we really need another Jean???
Well at least this piece sets high hopes for further Hellfire Club characters like Shaw, Tessa, etc.
Hulk: Somebody else has suggested the following and I must agree: this will probably be a new REV Hulk with the rookie green, exp. in grey and veteran green again. So maybe this time he'll have charge *x-ing fingers*
So far, I must say I'm pretty hyped for this set despite their initial announcement that it'll be full of characters from obscure realities and timelines. I like what I've see so far.
Maybe it'll finally have MORBIUS in it.....*doubting it*
I have to say that I've come around to wanting this set. When the original announcement was made that Mutant Mayhem was being released before another D.C. expansion, I was pretty suprised. In talking with some of my friends, I initially thought I would sit this set out and maybe pick up a few figures on the secondary market. But I have to say, I like what I've seen so far. The theme of the set seems interesting and the figures we have seen along with Boneyard's strongly rumored list are relatively promising. It will be great to see Alpha Flight hit the board and I'm anxious to see whether Cable and Deadpool will actually be made into clix. I'll most likely split a case of this one.

As someone who reads The Ultimates, I can say that I'm stoked about this Giant Man. I don't know anything about the regular continuity Hank Pym...but I know this guy.
Now that he's confirmed, all I need is Wasp & Nick Fury to run my Ultimates team that I've been hoping for! The original cast baby!
I didn't look through this whole thread, but maybe we will get a good version of Lady Deathstrike, with the Reavers team ability. And BLEH! Another Hulk and Spider-man taking up 2 slots that could be used for other characters.

Take Spider-Man as an example:
Ultimate Spider-Man has Spidey the classic way: a teenager trying to make his superheroic identity work with his real life. He is struggling against Norman Osborn and living under Aunt May's roof.
Amazing Spider-Man is original continuity and yet has wrecked the entire spirit of the comic: Spidey is now a mystic animal totem. Aunt May makes more wisecracks than Peter does when dressed as Spider-Man.

I'm gonna have to disagree here. When it comes to comics, I'm old school. So old school, in fact, that when my favorite titles started getting retarded (in my opinion, maybe not yours), I stopped reading them.
Ultimates got me back to reading comics. It's that good. I wish they wouldn't have stopped at 13...

And I would disagree with that. Ultimates turned me away from comics. It's that bad. I wish they would have stopped far sooner than 13.
Fortunately, DC has got me back into reading comics. I was hardcore Marvel for so long, never even touching a DC comic. But lately, Marvel seems interested only in appealing to the younger readers or those who find appeal in talk shows. Not that it's wrong - it's just not what everyone is looking for. DC manages to keep the "superhero" feel to the characters, and that's what I miss from Marvel. The good ol' days of Jim Lee's X-Men compared to today's stories. Ultimates only further tries to turn Marvel into a "reality show", and that just bores me honestly.
Anyhow everyone has their own view on the matter, so the debate is pretty fruitless. And as disappointed as I am in them bothering with adding Ultimates characters to Heroclix, anything that keeps the game alive is a good thing. So if it takes an Ultimate Giant-Man to keep the new sets coming, then cheers to Ultimate Giant-Man. ;)

I'm confident I can mod him into a 616 Giant Man without too much trouble. With my "luck" at pulling Uniques, I'll never see one... but if I do...
All of the members of the Ultimates team in ultimates had previous versions before. They should have done a regular giant man before they did the ultimate one, but I guess it's too late for that.

reavers: band of cyborgs mercs who absolutely hate mutants : lady deathstrike is a member.
marauders: assassins hired by mr sinister to annihilate the morlocks, cause archangel (then known as angel) to lose his wings, sabretooth is a member, gambit recruited them (but did not actively join)

Wow. There's a lot of gambit-hating on this board. As an occasionally ashamed Gambit fan, I have to remind people to remember Gambit for what he was, not what he has become. When Chris Clairmont and Jim Lee created him, he was awesome. When he helped the de-aged Storm combat the shadow king, when he was still mysterious, and before they started bogging him down with that Rogue tripe. Marvel has just taken a good character and destroyed him, like they did with Venom and Wolverine (that's right, I said it, they're both overexposed, overhyped, and overrated. They ####.)
On an actual related note, I'm glad to see Ultimate Giant Man instead of a real Giant Man, or Goliath, or Ant Man, because Ultimates is my favorite Marvel book on the market.
And I think Black Queen Jean (or the phoenix force masquerading as Jean) is hot, and I hope to see an REV Mastermind accompanying her so I can finish my endearing yet unplayable original Brotherhood team.
