For all of you into awesome artwork done with loving care (and who isn't), the book of the year so far has arrived.

Tomb Raider: Arabian Nights

Phillip Tan has spent a whole year working on this special issue. And it shows. Top Cow gave us a couple of preview pages last summer.

It is all done in watercolor and acrylic painting. This is a very difficult medium to work in as the paint dries very quickly and can also run if too much water is used. He has done a gorgeous job, and payed special attention to making sure the story flows as well.

The editor made a smart decision with the caption ballons as well. Instead of placing distracting white bubbles over the artwork, they are done in the same color as the backgrounds, but with just a couple of levels of shade difference. It's easy to read, but doesn't distract from the atmosphere.

The book carries a hefty price tag at $5.99, but is worth every penny if you are an art lover at all. The writer is Ms Fiona Kai Avery who wrote Lara for a year in Journeys, assists on Amazing Spider-Man, and is the writer of the new Amazing Fantasy book. Phillip Tan has been a Top Cow hose artist for a few years now, but I think he just found his own voice, and hopefully some well deserved recognition now.

Even if you don't like TR, this may be something you want to check out.

You know most of these people are DC/ Marvel zombies, right?

Thanx, I'll check it out.:)

That's why I mentioned the writer. LOL! Hopefully they will be curious.

The biggest shame is that the regular TR book is easily and consistantly, one of the best and funnest books out there. But I realise it's hard to get the spandex crowd to try out an old time movie serial/pulp adventure title.
