So, just curious of what people think about the way DC and Marvel are pushing variant and incentive covers? Here is a good link to an article about it all, Variant Scene (http://www.newsaraman.com/pages/Rick_SheaVariants.htm). Please read it and post what you think. I thought it was a pretty good piece.

Unfortunately, I'm one of the idiots who wants each cover. I really got sucked in with the Fathom #1 3 covers and Darkness #11 11 covers. That's about the time I got heavy into collecting.

I will try and buy however many copies need to get the one variant. Just depends on if I can afford it at the time. Like with Wolverine #20 I've purchased 65 copies for the variant cover. My local comic store can't afford to purchase that many issues to get the comic. My only option is ebay. I ended up paying what the variant copy is going for by itself on ebay right now. So, for the same prise I have 64 regular copies. They make good give aways at HeroClix tourneys.

I do really like how DC is changing the covers on 2nd and 3rd printing of issues. To me it makes it a lot easier to tell them apart. The Roman Numeral worked well too. Either way is easier then looking at the fine print on the inside.

They say when you give up one addiction you replace it for another. Well, I quit partying at the same time I started reading comics again

Nah, I gave up on all varient covers back ion the 90's...I only get the covers I want now...same with this Directs cut #### from marvel...

It's all about sales and the varient covers was just one of the things that killed comics in the 90's...I would rather see the companies put more money into making comics longer per issue instead of carping out varient covers....

But that is me.

No, I totally agree! I'd rather see better product then different covers. I would love to have better art work and stories any day. It's just that I'll still go after the dang variants to complete my sets. I wouldn't shed a tear if they quite making variants.

I think variant covers, when used as just gimmicks, is very lame. I love the DC 2nd print variant covers and I like when they do a variant cover with no hype, like the ultimate spidey #1 white cover. I knew nothing about there being a variant for that issue, neither did my local retailer. I wasn't even going to pick up the series, but when I was looking at the new arrivals, they had been out for 3 days and there were only 3 copies of Ultimate spidey left one white cover and 2 blue covers. I bought the white one because it looked cool. I figured there were just two different colored covers and bought that one, still not wanting to collect the series, just because design-wise, it appealed to me. I didn't ever even read it, I just took it home and put it up. 4 or 5 months later I heard about the elusive white cover variant and remembered that I had bought a copy of the 1st issue, but could'nt remember if it was white or not, so I dug it out. Needless to say I immediately put it in a hard case and put it back up. I also love the "sketch covers" Whether they are D.F. or whatever, The raw pencil look just appeals to me. I don't like a "glut" of different covers for one issue, but an occasional one thrown in the mix is a nice surprise to me, a la Ultimate Spidey. Also during Joe Mad's X-Men run, there were some Bachalo alternate covers that I really liked.

Your lucky. I didn't get into Ultimate Spider-man until issue 9. I thought it would bomb and now I'm kicking myself in the rear.
