I have seen her pictures. I have played her Clix figure. My curiosity was piqued but I resisted (and my pocket book breathed a sigh of relief).

But now Sister Magdelena is about to come into conflict with Lara Croft.

So I put what I believe is the initial mini series into my saver for payday. I was hoping a current fan could provide me with a comprehensive checklist of her appearances, and their order.

I want to know where Sister M is coming from before she and Ms Croft throw down.

Thanks.

I read one or two, for the art mainly. I'm sorry but I don't remember much about them, except the art was very good. Story wise it was ok, but I don't remember who wrote what I read. I think Peterson had drawn it, but I'm not even sure about that. Thanks for nothin machineman, right?

Maggie's a vampire hunter for the Catholic church. That's pretty much all I know.

Other than she's hot-vampire hunter-and is working with Lara Croft.

I wish I could be a comic book character...:disappoin

Thanks for the link guys. Alas herein lies my original problem. The Top Cow site is not Webtv useable.

I was able to dig up an old Wizard issue to get started and came up with this list.

The Darkness vol 1 #15-18
The Magdalena vol 1 #1-3
Magdalena/Angelus #1/2
The Magdalena Preview (for vol 2)
The Magdalena vol2 #1-4

I think there may or may not be a one shot crossover with Vampirella. I'm not sure.

I just finished the first mini and the preview. This is an interesting comic. Te first mini covers some interesting points of contention about Christian history and the role of women in it.

Basically The Magdalena is a title reserved for the direct female decendants of Mary Magdalene. Each of these first born in a generation has the special ability to force people to see and face their sins by touching them. The women are then rained as part of The Church's special army for fighting supernatural evil threats.

The main theme of the first mini seemed to be the difference between real evil as defined by God, and manufactured stories by man in God's name in order to maintain Earthly power.

Rosalie is The Magdalena we are intially introduced to. She is betrayed by her fellow wariors against evil, and the second mini opens with her daughter being primed to take her place.

This comic reminded me of some of the themes from Ghost, albeit with religious overtones.

Now I just have to track down the missing issues.

I always get into these books that are cover price when you find them, but you have to go to like twenty shops and dig through many bins to find them. That's half the fun though isn't it. LOL!

Sorry, I didn't know this thread existed. I'm a huge Magdalena fan and have everything she's ever appeared in.

The first thing to know is that there were many different Magdalenas. The Magdalena who appears in The Darkness is different from the Magdalena who appeared in the first miniseries, who is also different from the current Magdalena (who happily is the first Magdalena NOT to die after a short appearance).

Your list pretty much covers all of the appearances in the correct order, so after you've tracked them down you'll know her as well as anyone! ;) And you're correct - there is a Magdalena/Vampirella crossover. There is also a Magdalena/Witchblade/Vampirella crossover (which I sadly haven't gotten yet). Finally, there are also TPB's available, so you don't have to dig through bins to get all the older appearances.

Anyway, "The Darkness: Spear of Destiny" is the TPB you should start with. It's Magdalena's debut in comics where she faces off against The Darkness. (Covers Darkness 15-18)

Magdalena: Blood Divine is the next TPB you should pick up. It chronicles a short tale of another Magdalena in her first solo role. (Covers Magdalena vol. 1 1-3)

Then the Magdalena/Angelus 1/2 by Wizard. There are 3 different covers, so if you become a diehard collector like me, then you'll get them all! (heh)

Next comes the Magdalena/Vampirella crossover. Just a nice little fill-in story while waiting for our final Magdalena to get introduced: Patience.

Then there's Volume 2 of The Magdalena. Again, there are multiple covers available, and the alternate cover for issue 2 is kinda fun: it shows a super-deformed anime Magdalena with the title written in katakana. This gives us a look at the latest Magdalena named Patience as she begins her new life as a Magdalena. She also wears the skimpiest outfit of the bunch (not too modest for a nun ;) ).

Finally, though this came before Vol. 2 was completely released, we have a short Magdalena (Patience)/Witchblade team up in Witchblade #62-63 which clearly takes place after Patience has grown comfortable with her role as The Magdalena.

As for the latest Witchblade/Magdalena/Vampirella crossover, I don't know much about it other than it came out this year. This year hasn't been a great year for comics for me, so I've missed out on tons. Hopefully I'll catch up soon though. And I'm going to be getting the Magdalena/Lara Croft teamup as well.

Glad to see someone else was made into a Magdalena fan. I was thrilled that she made it to Indy Clix, and got a Vet. of her within my first few boosters. Needless to say, she's been a very dedicated member of my teams and quite a thorn in my opponents' sides!

Oh one final thing - The Witchblade/Magdalena/Vampirella: Convergence crossover is listed at MileHighComics for $70. So I won't be picking up for review anytime soon. ;) But the rest of her appearances range from okay to great reads. Her appearance in Witchblade wasn't really important, as she doesn't really do all that much. Just some nice dialogue between Sara and her.

I'd definitely go for her appearance in The Darkness (the TPB shouldn't be that hard to find), volume 1 (also a fairly easy TPB to get), and volume 2. The rest of the appearances aren't as important as they don't really give you any additional information, but for a fan who can't get enough Magdalena, they're worth collecting. Good luck on your hunt! ;)

Thanks for your invaluable assistance. Be warned you may be smitten with Lady Croft when you are done. Luckily I bought Tomb Raider from day one.

Just in case you were unaware. The Magdalena has her own LE Clix named Sister Magdalena, and she is usually easy to find and cheap.

Yeah I got a Sister Magdalena right away. I was a little disappointed with her stats (I was hoping it would have some Outwit since she has the full knowledge of every Magdalena who came before her), but being a fan I had to get it anyway. I also have both statues and a number of posters. Okay now I'm starting to sound overly geeky.

Oh I just picked up the Witchblade/Magdalena/Vampirella: Convergence which I said I wasn't going to get. I saw it on eBay for 29.99 Buy It Now, so I snagged it. Crazy, I am.

As for being smitten with Lara Croft - we'll have to see. I have two Tomb Raider comics, I believe, but I could never get into them. I guess because I just picked them up at random and had no idea what was going on. I guess after having read Danger Girl, Aphrodite IX, and other comics with gun-totin' heroines, I just didn't see anything unique about Lara. If you say the comics are worth reading, though, I'll go back to the beginning and give them a shot.

I'm not sure what drew me to Magdalena. Admittedly her first appearance (in Darkness) wasn't that great. She was a broken record, spouting out the same line again and again. I guess she was initially supposed to be some religious nut while the Darkness was the bad "good" guy of the story. The latest Magdalena, Patience, is a much more dynamic character though. I hope Top Cow assigns a good writer to her since she's got a lot of potential.

So, which Magdalena is the Indyclix sculpt of?

Briel

It is Rosalie's uniform from the first mini series. Although since they are all from the same family line it doesn't really matter. That is why the LE says Sister M instead of any particular name.

Lara was really the first "gun totin' babe" (except maybe for Barb Wire), although this is really a misnomer for her. She is a modern day Indiana Jones who happens to be a hot chick. She doesn't have anything to prove. She just defends herself from creatures and bad bad men out to ruin her day. LOL!

Danger Girl on the other hand was a wild comedy tribute to James Bond and Charlie's Angels. You have to wonder if McG read DG before he made his Angels films. Kind of a weird twisted full circle of pop will eat itself.

By the way, just a little bit of added appearance notes for Magdalena. I listed up there that she appeared in Witchblade 62-63. It's actually 62-65. I have no idea how I managed to miss getting Witchblade 64 and 65 because I found #66 in my collection, but now it looks like I need to go back and get those other two to complete my Magdalena collection.

As for the sculpt, it could represent the Magdalena who appeared in The Darkness (whose name wasn't mentioned, I believe) as well as the one in the first mini-series named Rosalia. Both of them wore the same outfit. Patience wears something a little different (but then again, she goes back to the more common outfit in her Witchblade appearances). But as Briel said, it doesn't really matter much since they're all pretty much identical. The one in The Darkness learned an additional power which isn't represented in the dial. Patience is new, so she doesn't have all the skills yet, but she seems to have a lot more street smarts.

I'll have to go back and read all the others when I get some freetime again. I've been focusing on X-Men a bit much lately, so it's time to go back to my Indy comics. ;)

While she only appears on the last page, the crossover with Lara actually begins in #46 of Tomb Raider. If you want to get the whole story.

Thanks for the issue number correction.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't there a crossover w/ Areala Warrior Nun as well?

And here I thought getting into this series was going to be easy.

I may have to buy an Overstreet Guide this year. Wizard isn't as complete as it used to be, and Mile High comes up with no hits for Magdalena whatsoever.

Unwittingly, Patience follows in her mother's footsteps in TR #47.

The Magdelena defies the orders of her superiors on moral grounds, and is declared a rogue operative.
