Variant covers?!

My boss ( I work at a comic shop so please be gentle....haha) just gave me a variant cover Astonishing x-men #1 (wolverine cover). It has a very SLIGHT tear by the staple. I like it. I got it for cover price....which was cool because it's still a variant.


But I am wondering......Where do you get the variant covers at? Do you guys order them from your shop or online?

I guess I should ask my boss, but I really wouldn't mind getting a variant of the new Avengers run, and Captain America.

Uhm, I got mine at the comics shop. I used to work for him, and he knows my tastes, so if there is a variant, even if it's hot by an artist I like, or featuring a character I like, or that is just plain cooler, he drops it in my box and lets me decide which one(or one) to buy. He always sells me the books at cover, unless he had to pay extra to get it.

But....this is a rarity. Normally, to people who don't have priveledge insider access, he marks the rare incentives up and puts them on the wall. He does give first crack at them to his subscribers, but they do still have to pay.

So, if you work in a comic store, yeah, that is the best way to get the variants. If he finds out you are scalping them tho(not saying you are, but if you did...) he will probably hit the ceiling, so keep it on the down low if you do that.....

Yeah....I found out how today.

I got the Millar signed cover of Ultimates Vol 2 #1 for $30 and two Black and White versions of the copy.

So I just spent 50 on to books this week.


Variants are going to be bought....BY ME!
