(The history or Festivus has been sampled from Sandra Wu-San and others)

Well, its that time of year again. The Malls are packed with crowds of people, tukeys hide, and there are mass amounts of pies. The streets are sparkly with lights, causing kids with ADD to be lured away by their shinyness. Candles are being lit, presents are being wrapped, and dreidels are being spun. Red, green, and silver seem to be the colors that everyone is wearing. People are singing, Charlie Brown is learning the meaning of the holiday season, and all of us have that warm fuzzy feeling inside.

Man...forget all that! Chrismahanukwanzakah is for chumps. Lets celebrate Festivus, heroclix style!

What is Festivus, you might ask? If you have never watched Seinfeld or this episode of Seinfeld, I highly recommend it. Heres the story of Festivus:

For those of you who don't know about this holiday I'll give you a brief overview of its history. In the 60's a very wise (yet loud) man named Frank Costanzia got in a fight with another father over a doll he wanted to give to his son George for Christmas. His behavior sickened him and he then rejected the comercial aspect of Christmas. However Frank was not a religous man either so he could not "escape" into the religous side of Christmas either. Then Frank was hit with an idea "A Festivus for the Rest of Us".

You do not give out presents on Festivus, instead it a holiday based on creating a stronger family unit. The Christmas tree is replaced by the Festivus metal poll (high strength/weight ratio). The Festivus meal starts with the airing of grevenses, where each family memeber is able to tell the other memebers of the family what problems they all have with each other, to create a more open and trusting relationship. And finally the feat of strength, where one family must either do something with requires great strength (such as lifting a heavy object) or a younger family memeber must wrestle and pin an older one.

So, we are gonna celebrate Festivus a little early this year to get into the Festivus spirit. Welcome to the Festivus Tournament at the Fortress - the tourny for the rest of us.

The Logistics:

Its a League tournament, so bring your league team or 400 points, 350 must be made from two teams from separate universes, 50 points can be whatever you want.

Here are the rules for the tournament of Festivus:

1) The Festivus Pole - display of an unadorned aluminum pole, apparently in opposition to the commercialization of the decorated Christmas trees and because the holiday's creator, Frank Costanza "finds tinsel distracting".

Every board will have a "Festivus Pole" (Light Post from the Outdoor adventure pack) in addition to the other objects on the board and anyone can the Festivus Pole to beat their opponent over the head. The Festivus Pole is not destroyed when used and CANNOT be destroyed by any means. ANY figure can use the Festivus Pole to add some Festivus cheer to his or her opponent. The The Festivus Pole is a heavy object + incap. Once the Festivus Pole has been used in an action (it can be used to hit someone, thrown at someone (range 4) or Tked), whether or not it was successful, the figure must drop the object into an adjacent square that is unoccupied. It is a normal heavy object in all other regards.

2) The Airing of Grievances - where the celebrant tells their friends and family all of the instances where they disappointed the celebrant that year.

Well, I don't want this to turn into a weep fest, so instead of airing the grievances of each other, we are going to do it to the rules. Before the Tournament begins, everyone will write down on a scrap of paper one rule or ruling they do not like or want changed. Before each tournament, I will randomly draw one of these grievances and a "Festivus Miracle" will happen...that grievance will be honored. You cannot, in your airing of grievances, ban figures, players, or basic mechanics of the game (you cannot get rid of Probability Control or Outwit, but you can say you have to roll to see if you succeed). I will add three of my own grievances (just in case everyone is ridiculous) and have final say over the airing of grievances. Examples include:

No more NAAT
No more FCCF
Cannot stack Perplex at all
Can Perplex as much as you want, no limit
Cannot shoot rooftop to rooftop
Must roll to use Outwit successfully

Let the airing of grievances begin!!!

3) The Feats of Strength - where the head of the family tests their strength against one participant. Festivus is not considered over until the head of the family has been pinned. A participant is allowed to decline to attempt to pin the head of the family only if they have something better to do instead.

Before the round, each player will declare on his team "a head of family". As Head of Family, the character gains permanent Willpower and +1 Attack and +1 Damage. If the Head of the Family is KOed, the figure that does the damage that KOed the Head of Family gains the Head of Family status and gains willpower, +1 attack, and +1 damage. If the figure that KOs the head of family is the head of family on his/her team, that figure will have a total of +3 attack and +3 damage. So let the Heads of Family challenge each other!!!

The tournament is based on points, so besides the normal victory points, here are the Festivus Extras:

For every time you use the Festivus Pole Successfully to attack someone and cause damage add 25 points
If you KO a figure using the Festivus Pole, add 50 points.
If the Head of Family KOs any other character on the opposing team, add 50 points.
If the head of Family KOs the opposing Head of Family, double the points of the KOed Head of Family.

It all starts on Sunday, December 5th, at 12:45 pm at Fortress Comics and Games at 425 Albert Street, East Lansing, Michigan. Entry fee is $2. Winner and Fellowship win LEs, runners up get boosters of choice. And who knows, if I am in the Festivus spirit, maybe more LEs will be handed out all in the name of Festivus Cheer (all depends if I get my December support!).

Phew, that was a long message....but I knew it would be. PM me if you have any questions. Remember, based on points!!

Happy Festivus!
