I'm sick of greviance threads (except for this one) and the many "I'm sick of Grevience"-themed threads that follow them.

'Festivus' Shares Space With Fla. Nativity

Wed Dec 22,11:59 PM ET U.S. National - AP

By SARA KENNEDY, Associated Press Writer

BARTOW, Fla. - When a church group put a nativity scene on public property, officials warned it might open the door to other religious — and not-so-religious — displays. They were right.

Since the nativity was erected in Polk County, displays have gone up honoring Zoroastrianism and the fake holiday Festivus, featured on the TV show "Seinfeld."

The Polk County Commission voted 4-1 Wednesday to permit the nativity scene to remain across the street from the courthouse, as well as to make that area a "public forum" open to any type of display.

But the commission insisted that unless someone claims a particular display and submits a written request asking it remain, it would be removed. By Wednesday evening, no one had claimed the Festivus display, and the commission said it would come down; a woman claimed the Zoroastrianism display, which was to stay.

The debate began Dec. 15 when a handmade creche with the figures of Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus was erected by a Bible study group from the First Baptist Church of Bartow.

"The real spirit of Christmas is the birth of Christ," said Marvin Pittman, a retired law enforcement officer and parishioner. "We felt it needs to be in the public eye, so we did it."

Other displays are fine, too, he said, adding, "If somebody wants to do that, it's their right."

And true to form, the site almost immediately sprouted alternative displays, including a simple sign that reads: "Festivus for the Rest of Us — Donated to Polk County by the Seinfeld Fan Club."

The display, a reference to the fake holiday featured on an episode of the television sitcom, did not include the totem of Festivus — a bare aluminum pole instead of a tree. Key rituals of Festivus include accusing others of being a disappointment and wrestling.

Another display celebrating Zoroastrianism was erected by Stella Darby, who wanted to encourage people to research the ancient Persian religion.

Richard Blank, a member of the American Civil Liberties Union (news - web sites), objected to the nativity scene's presence on public property, arguing it violates the constitutional separation of church and state.

"The nativity scene is totally celebratory of the birth of Christ," he said. "Not everyone subscribes to that, and those who do should put it on their own property."

But a board member who voted to allow the creche as part of the "public forum" disagreed with Blank. "A group had asked to display a scene important to their beliefs; I felt we shouldn't suppress their right to do so," said Commissioner Samuel K. Johnson.

I've made three already so here goes my list of grievances.

4. Urkel-Os: Like Sandra Wu-san, I despise Steve Urkel (no offense dude, I know you post here) but more than anything else I hate the fact that he was actually marketed enough to have his very own cereal...that sucks real bad.
5. Grievance five!: Lealu is really a 58 year old dude.
6. Midgets: I'm in the minority here but I don't think they are the least bit funny. I think it's sad and exploitative that they are glorified as such...they are creepy and fiendish...and diabolically magical too.
7. Christmas: I don't care what you people say. Nothing says "Peace and Joy to the World" like Agnosticism and a big metal pole.
8. Lindsay Lohan: Yes, she's attractive and has big boobs...I get that. But this doesn't mean she should be allowed to plague the world with her talentless acting and ####py music.
9. Nipples on TV: Why is it that every Monday night I can watch some money hungry debutante stuff her face with deer dink on Fear Factor but yet I can't even get so much as a peak at her chesticles.
10. Boxing: Can't we just watch them hack each other up with funny nick-nacks and other giftware instead?
11. The Media: A space probe is about to enter one of Saturn's moons made of methane and ethane oceans...with a camera!!! and the Media just can't get enough of how much a flop Colin Farrell is.
12. I’ve spelled Grievance wrong way more than twice.

That’s it for now.

13. Joel Schumacher-Has this guy ever made a film worthy of audiences or producers attention? or made a film that doesn't contain a message of homo-eroticism every thirty seconds.
14. Reality TV besides Fox: The goal of reality Telelvision is to exploit human beings in their natural habitat as shamelessly as possible. No one but Fox seems to understand this.
15. Comic Book Movies-I know I'm going to get in trouble for this but hear me out. Nick Cassavetes is going to direct Iron Man and Mandarin will not be the villain...early rumors for the lead include Justin Timberlake! Silver Surfer was shelved but Prince Namor got a green light...so did Hulk 2. WTF!!!?
16. People who say American's can't learn to speak other languages-Let me explain: We don't have to you idiots!
17. Homeless people...get a job already you lazy bastards!

18. Seconded as well

It is sort of like one Star Trek (NextGen) episode where the Romulan ship shows up in Federation space. Ryker orders shields up and ready phasers and photons. Picard countermands his order and says he doesn't want to cause an incident.
They've already caused one! And not reacting forcefully just convinces them they can get away with it.

Which, in a roundabout way, leads to my next grievance

11. Star Trek: The Next Estrogeneration
12. Greedo fired first! Period. End of story.
13. Historical movies that throw history out the window (yes, this is a dig at Alexander in specific but not exclusively)

Like the people who feel compelled to NOT TURN OFF THEIR FREAKIN' CELL PHONES

What are you? Codependent on communications? Boy/Girlfriend cannot live withouyt you calling them every ten minutes?

TURN THEM OFF!

As to the babies; maybe they are just hungry or tired. My sympathies. Now take your lousy brat somewhere else

In no particular order:
1. The people in the cubicles around me.
2. Washroom attendants. What's the point? I've been going potty all by myself for weeks now, and you expect me to give you money to help me?
3. People who think that their opinions count as facts. Just because you don't like the Grateful Dead, doesn't mean that they ####.
4. People who do not realize that my opinion does count as fact. I do not like Christina Aguilera, therefor she sucks
5. Liscenses to kill. Why should these be restricted to the MI6? That's discriminatory. I'm a responsible, upstanding taxpayer, I should be able to kill someone now and again when they deserve it.
6. Aquaman. Please don't fire concentric circles at me
7. Remakes. One or two are ok, but really, do we need a live-action Fat Albert movie?
8. Slow drivers in the fast lane
9. Obnoxious geeks that make us decent geeks look bad.
10. Actors that form bands. Don't you have enough of our money already?

Grievances:

1.) All Silver Dreadnought trades I tried to engineer came up empty, forcing me to break down and spend money on the darn thing.

2.) DC braggodocio about set quality and spitting on Marvel sets. I used to be ashamed of Marvel jerks being mouthy, as I tend to lean to the Marvel side just due to personal exposure, but now an obnoxious 20-defense piece, and really, any DC preview, is making everyone all uppity. Since Critical Mass sculpts and paintjobs, Marvel's upped their stuff. I don't think there's really any difference in set quality - I think DC folks are just rabid for the one time of the year they actually GET stuff. Chill out! I find a 20 defense distracting.

3.) Airports holding my luggage captive and forcing me to go au stinkorale.

4.) The lack of a Bi-Beast figure.

5.) The lack of a Maestro figure.

6.) The lack of any respect for the Black Panther character to allow a remake at a Batman level.

7.) The retirement of Mr. Fixit.

8.) 2004 sucking in general.

More to come.

My Airing Of Grievances:

1) My soon-to-be-ex-wife.

2) My now-former good friend who was sleeping w/ my s-t-b-ex-wife.

3) The court systems in Pennsylvania that allow my s-t-b-ex-wife to get half the marital property when she brought NOTHING into the marriage and her only accomplishment in the marriage was hiding the fact that she was cheating on me for over 2 years w/ my now-former good friend.

4) The court systems that look at me as a man and automatically say I can't get full custody of my son because I am a man.

5) The fact that my s-t-b-ex-wife can run off to Pittsburgh to see her family for the Holidays and she deems it more important that our son see his grandparents for Christmas and not his daddy.

6) The fact that I am a good-looking guy, still semi-rich even after the soon-to-be-divorce, gainfully employed, intelligent, open-minded, a snappy dresser, witty, a bit-sarcastic, own my own mini-mansion of a home, can have intelligent and meaningful conversations with the opposite sex, will snuggle and even watch a "chick flick" with no hesitation, et al...

Yes, it is mostly because DC only gets one set a year and has been skipped twice.

It's just my two cents but one very probable reason why we might have a higher infant mortality rate than some "third world" nations might simply be the fact that we have a much, much, much larger country in both population and especially in size. After all, many "third world" countries would fit, comfortably I might add, into some of our smaller states.

Dan Rather didn't falsify the documents, far as I know.

"Decades of liberal media bias."

The entertainment media is liberal. The news media are mostly empty-headed prickolinis concerned with either the bottom line over actual quality journalism, or right-wing interests, which are generally just the bottom line over actual quality journalism.

GRIEVANCE:

1.) Calling programs designed to help people "entitlement programs."

2.) Calling people who want a global community "America haters."

Here's the thing I tend to see. In the best light, both wings are thus:

LEFT: ####, we have resources, some people don't, and the system's pretty messed up. We should spread it a little more evenly and help out those who've got a raw deal.

RIGHT: I've earned everything I have, and everyone else should earn what they get, and don't give me any carp about bum luck - the system is fair. Teach a man to fish, he fishes forever, y'know.

Both sides have their merits.

It's just how it gets all twisted and bogged down, and the right becomes "kick 'em when they're down and take all their stuff" and the left becomes "please don't hurt us, we'll give you anything you want!"

And I've got to learn to stop talking about political poop on Festivus threads. Or on Heroclix Nerd Boars in general. No one is ever convinced - people just want to have their own worldviews reinforced, and to stomp on any other worldviews that don't gel with what they think/were raised to think.

4.) Paul Walker's continuing career as anything other than a busboy.

5.) How people will probably see the Fantastic Four movie and think they're ripping off The Incredibles.

6.) Nobody likes the Hulk movie but me.

7.) I will never see the Shocker in a Spider-Man movie.

8.) Eating fudge, then finding out once it touches your tongue that it's actually some kind of "pumpkin bread."

9.) I'm still residually annoyed from my childhood, when I'd run up to pumpernickel bread thinking "Ooh! Chocolate bread!" and then being unpleasantly surprised and grossed out when I ate it. DIS ISN'T CHOKWATE!

It did make roughly $73 Million Profit...So it made money, just not the kind of money they were expecting with a $172 million dollar movie...

That said...I hope the second one is a WHOLE LOT Better!!

There's a reason it ranks 35th on the All-Time Biggest Drops for a 2nd Weekend...

But with that said....I ALWAYS Welcome another Comic Book Movie!!!

I liked the hulk flick but i was expecting artsy with good cgi and got artsy with great cgi. so i was happy.

i echo the no warning point grievance thing a bit. i started a thread that got pulled but didnt get a warning point. i wrote "basil elks really loves the (0ck" in a post and didnt get a warning point and i bypassed several filters in one post and no warning points. maybe its because on occasion some people kinda sorta find me ammusing. either that or i am rarely blatantly offensive and not worth their point listing.

my clix grievance are that i traded away my sod supes for 6 arm spidey cuz i had to have the spidey. now i really miss sod supes.

I generally understand why people DIDN'T like the Hulk movie.

It's like a friend of mine said. "I went in expecting a movie, and I got a film. I really liked the film, but I'm a bit disappointed that I didn't get a movie."

I loved Nick Nolte, but they really didn't need to make him Absorbing Dad. The movie's much more fun when you realize he's crackers right from the get-go.

It does take a little while to ramp up, and yes, I'm a little upset at the lack of Rick Jones, but hot dang, Jennifer Connelly'll make any man hulk out.

And the whole desert sequence is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. The Hulk doesn't start fights, but he darn well finishes them.

ANYWAY. Hulk 2: Abomination.

ANYWAY... I was gonna mention more grievances, but Festivus is over. Ah, well.

I was talking about neither.

Would Spiderman be giving the Shocker,
or receiving it?

And is Kirsten Dunst in Spiderman 3?
:devious:

(I hope that Venom and Lizard show up)

I liked her better when she was about 15 lbs heavier,
with the body of a woman.
She is still beautiful,
just less of a knockout than she used to be.

Chicks that starve themselves to look herion-chique
make me gag.
(Alley Mcbeal Chick, current Laura Flynn Boyle, etc.)

It doesn't look good,
and it is un-healthy.

I wish more young girls would get into athletics,
and look less to Hollywood actresses (who starve themselves)
for an example of an envious body-type.

PS.
I fell asleep in the theater during Hulk, Hellboy,
Oceans 12, National Treasure, Blade 3,
and I forget what else.
(even though I liked them all)
(guess I like falling asleep in the middle of a bunch of strangers)
:ermm:

I just saw a photo shoot she did for Vanity Fair or some #### - she still has the body of a woman to me. That Oscar night thing was an anomaly. I've never seen her look like that before or ever again. Probably having a bad go of things or something, I dunno.

I read an interview with her - she sounded really intelligent, but a bit of an overachiever. I'm lazy. It wouldn't work.

I don't look at her and think 'heroin chic' or anorexic, although I agree, I likes my womens lookin' healthy and comfortable (none of these 12-inch clear high-heels or clothing that could very well be suffocating, etc.)

And I'm guessing a Shocker isn't as cool as a Hot Karl, because its name is less interesting.

here's another grievance...
the double standard that applies to some "special" posters, that they're allowed to make political comments in nearly every post they make, and it's ok.... because they're "special".

You're a liberal idiot...and terrorist.

Annnnnnd... the Inbetweener might be joining Basil on the sidelines before Year's End.

Will the Inbetweener make it to 2005? Will he hold his tongue so as to see the year ring in at HCR? Will anybody care? Will anyone even notice the blatant Batman sitcom ripoff this is meant to be?

Tune in next week... same Inbetweener channel... same Inbetweener time to find out...

I hope so...I genuinely feel like I didn't start anything on here this time...

I'm in a real sour mood that I have to work today I suppose...maybe if I dress as a clown, cover my hands in blood and hold an axe I'll feel better...that way I feel as if I've accomplished something.

I wrote 50 greivances on here yesterday and not one of them got political...yet I'm followed around by guys like Bootkneelee consitently looking to provoke me (probably because the political content in my user warnings)...I don't even know if that other guy I responded to's comments were directed at me (I'm no republican) but I suspect it was...my response to him, as insulting as it was, only reiterated what he accused conservatives of saying about him already. If those things get me banned...well then Happy New Year.:(

You have to let things slide sometimes.

When someone gets your goat just remember what an old friend of mine used to tell me frequently:

"There are people in this world that their SOLE purpose in life is to exist so other people can laugh at them."

Words to get you through a day. ;)

Sorry I'm late everyone here's my quick list:

1)greivance threads that go on for 15 pages before I get there
2)no second INDY set, and everyone INDY hating
3)Not enough bandwagon jumpers for the Bi-Beast thread
4)lonely holidays, lonely city
5)Far away from the girl o' my dreams (sorry sandra and lealu, its someone else)
6)having to watch realms members flame each other over nothing, and hijacking threads
7)MST3K is still off the air
8) removed for political content

More as I wake up fully

I liked it fine right up till the point where they stupidly rewrote the Absorbing Man to be Bruce Banners dad. No one wanted an acid trip looking, metaphysical fight at the end.
I had high hopes the Hulk would be fighting the Abomination or one of the classic Hiulk villains for the big finale.
So I guess I was just disapointed witht he ending.

But then they put the Punisher in Florida for cryin' out loud.
