Story post

In an abandoned wharehouse at the docks of new york city a gathering of villains huddled around some odd looking machinery....

A portly man sporting a harness from which metallic tentacles moved as if with a mind of there own was working on the machine...and he said "...many times weve gathered and many times that accursed wallcrawler has thwarted us...so this time well use this machinery that i found near stark international...it seems to be some sort of dimension hopper"

Two others looked on in rapt fascination one standing on a jet propelled glider in a costume reminiscent of halloween and the other in a highly technical costume with an opaque glasslike helmet....

a little further away on a nearby couch sat a man made entirely of sand "tell me again what were trying to do in this alternate dimension of yours?" remarked the petty thief known as Sandman. closer yet Max Dillon sparked in his yellow and green costume (we can pretend)

"Flint, we've talked about this before..this is a common snatch and grab...we jump in grab as much loot as we can from wherever we pop up...maybe even find some techno junk that we can sell to AIM, then jump out with the loot and come back here. No Wallcrawler...no Fantastic Four...No Daredevil. Jeez New Yorks such a haven for those spandex wearing do-gooders, we cant sneeze without running into them"

Sandman looked at his long time companion and said "and what if theres heroes in this alternate universe that we run foul of..."

Doctor Octopus looked up from his work for a second and said "they wont know our powers or capabilities, which will mean more time for us to get in and get out...."

Sandman lazily made a sandcastle on his leg from will....and looked back at their leader..."but we also wont know their powers or capabilities Doc...."

from out of the shadows a newcomer to this team of 6 stepped flanked by two common street criminals; 1 a beefy Thug with bruised knuckles and the other a gun toting Man that had worked for Octopus before...but all attention was on the one beginning to speak...A man in black with concentric circles on his chest and head laden with weapons and sporting a toothpick in his mouth...

"thats why he asked me to come along...to watch your back and help you take out any costumes that arrive..." with that the cocky man spit the toothpick out to impale a spider crawling on the wall near the machine..."im just sorry your sparring partner isnt here to see how id fair in a match against him...im sure the rewards id receive for taking him out would be plenty..."

The criminals looked and as one said "Bullseye!"

"the one and only" remarked the assassin....

just then the machine began to hum and a doorway activated showing new york city in another time and place...a new york city without the Avengers, The Baxter building...Spiderman...but silhoetted in the distance stood an odd shaped building much like a T.

Noone really paid much attention to it...at least for now...:grin:

Let's go with the Marvel 4 map. The warehouse setting works well with the villain's plot.

"Titans Together!" Nightwing called into the intercom system.

Almost instantly, a cloud of smoke billowed out in the middle of the room. When it finally started to clear, Raven was standing there.

Soon a bright emeral green hummingbird joined them, followed by the rest of the Teen Titans - Cyborg, Wonder Girl, and Starfire. The bird grew and shifted shape, becoming a no-less-green teenage boy. "Whassup?" he asked.

"Yeah, Nightwing. What's going on?" Cyborg prodded. "Fill us in."

"There's a whole group of metahumans raiding a nearby S.T.A.R. Labs warehouse. And the things they've got stored there we do NOT want falling into the wrong hands."

"S.T.A.R. Labs?" Wonder Girl commented. "You're not kidding. Some of the stuff they've come up with should never even have been made."

"Exactly," Nightwing confirmed.

"Who are they?" Starfire asked. "Anyone we've fought before?"

"No. Our database has no information on any of them, and you know how up to date I keep it. These guys are all new. What we do know from the security tapes, is that one of them uses mechanical tentacles, another can turn into sand and a third can manipulate electricity." Images appeared on the screen behind him, displaying the villains as he described them. "There's a flyer, and this guy in a Halloween cosutme who seems to have several different sorts of weapons in his arsenal - exploding pumpkins seems to be a favorite."

"Exploding pumpkins," Cyborg repeated in disbelief. "Where do they come up with this stuff?"

"The've got a couple of hired thugs," Nightwing continued, "but the remaining two of their members are something of a mystery. This one in black - we haven't seen him do anything yet, but he appears heavily armed." The image switched from Bullseye to a blurry shot of Mysterio, mostly obscured by smoke. "And this one. This is the only shot the cameras managed to get on him."

"Sheesh," Changeling joked. "With a costume like that, no wonder he's camera shy."

"Maybe, but he's also an unknown commodity. We have no idea what his powers or abilities are, so we need to be especially careful of him. Let's go."

as they approached yet another abandoned wharehouse...

"how many of these things are there" quipped Hobgoblin "youd think they wouldnt leave them abaondoned for guys like us to find"

Vulture returning from a recon flew up and hovered near otto Octavius, leader of the Sinister Six...plus in this case.

in a voice that cracked with age he remarked "weve got capes...their leader is all in black, an acrobatic type with metallic truncheons and some shuriken like objects on his costume..."

Bullseyes eyes narrowed at this piece of information and he muttered "Daredevil?...naw...."

"theyve got a shapechanger...hes all green, an alien woman that is very fast and seems to have some form of energy blasts at her disposal, a cyborg, another woman flier...and very confident..probably their strongarm. finally a young girl all in black ported in nearby and watched me before i flew off...no telling what she can do....theyre on the other side of this building..."

Elektro looked up at the logo on the side of the building S.T.A.R. LABS...it had looked so promising...well time to do what they always did....fight superheroes...

Octavius looked up at Vulture and said "Thankes Toomes, spread out everyone...look for entrances...and lets plan for anything...im most concerned about the alien woman and the cyborg. and keep an eye out for the teleporter...i want to know more about her.

and the sinister syndicate approached the wharehouse....and not for the first time wondered if Doc Ock had lead them wrong yet again...

"So much for the element of surprise," Nightwing lamented. "Well, we know they're here, so I guess that makes us even. Anything else you can tell us about them, Raven?"

The empath closed her eyes in meditation. After a few moments, she opened them again. "I sense greed, aggression, some uncertainty."

"Sounds your basic bunch of petty criminals," Wonder Girl said.

"Well, we know how to deal with that," Cyborg added.

they mobilized as a well oiled machine...for being villains. Octavius paused beside a truck with the S.T.A.R. Logo and pointed at the two hed brought to carry the loot..."Murtoch...Riggs, stay with me, the rest pair up. look for loot even as we teach these young heroes what it means to face The Sinister Syndicate <cue dramatic music here>"

Hobgoblin took his glider down to just above the asphault and glanced at Sandman "want a lift?"

Sandman smiles and slid his silicate body atop the glider which strained to keep aloft under the weight of a few hundred extra pounds of sand...

nearby Vulture was crouched atop the roof of a truck while Mysterio was preparing some of his "effects". they glanced at each other and nodded...they had worked well together in the past..the aging aerial thief had a lot of patience and experience...and Quentin Black was always prepared...

Further down the drive Bullseye took out a pistol and looked at the supercharged Master of Electricity...."its us"

"Titans," Nightwing ordered, "take positions in the warehouse, but keep to cover. Cyborg, you're with Wonder Girl. Changeling with Starfire."

"All right!" Changeling joked, leaping into Starfire's arms. "Carry me away, my alien beauty."

"Changeling, you are incorrigible," Starfire complained, but nevertheless carried him into the warehouse, taking cover behind some crates. Wonder Girl and Cyborg followed their example. Nightwing slunk in after them keeping to the shadows, while Raven teleported into the building offices.

Octopus watched as the team of youths deployed. it was obvious they were a team and not just a rabble. he needed to be careful. the closeness they showed could fire passions...making them more dangerous. he lost his attention for a moment...which was brought back to earth by the ratatatata from Bullseyes machine pistol as he cuy a hole into the wall of the wharehouse...which Elektro used to good advantage carryig the duo into the recess' of the offices

and Hobgoblin rocketted into the wharehouse and to the right...placing Sandman who hardened up to concrete in front of the madman

Murtoch looked at Octavius who pointed to the entryway of the wharehouse...and he walked over. and stood...waiting for the enemy

"It sounds like the tentacled man is their leader," Starfire observed. "Let's see how well they do if I cut off the head."

"Starfire, wait," Nightwing warned her, but too late. Her impetuous nature got the better of Nightwing's more cautious strategy. Her plan worked however, taking Doctor Octopus completely by surprise. The villain took Starfire's starbolt in the chest and raged at his teammates for their incompetance at letting her through.

Dr Octavius took the blast in the chest...staggered backward and within seconds...gone was the scientist which was replacesd by the Thug.....his arms pistoned forward shaking the wharehouse with each step as they carried him near the green kid who suddenly looked like a scared bunny...one tentacled arm reached out to grab the nearby "parts cart" as he moved over to stand next to the alien who was winded from her flight

he shouted "get them"

and Bullseye smiled and fired his pistol again into the wall in front of Elektro...a shard of drywall shearing across his cheek from the closeness of the blast

Elektro looked at the small bunny and grinned Bullseye pointing at him saying "right between the ears" and a powerful blast of electricity caught the bunny...now a rhino...now a gorilla...now a gator...and finally a chimp whos hair was on end.

unfortunately nearby insulation from electrical equipment...caught some of the electricity and caused feed back making elektros teeth jitter

Riggs obeying the command of 'get them' to the tee...ran forward and crouched behind a desk pointing his gun at the green chimp...

Okay, I didn't see that whole destroy the wall and attack Changeling thing coming. Thought I was reasonably safe for another turn. That'll teach me to get cocky.

Nightwing leads with a 6.

Cyborg trains his sonic cannon on Doc Ock, AV9 on DV14 +2 for ESD. Needs 7. He gets a 10. Doc Ock takes 3 more. He loses super strength and drops his LO in H10.

Raven to H19

Changeling tries to finish Ock. AV5 on DV12, needs 7. Gets a 4. Raven uses her PC. Gets 9. Ock takes 1 more and he's down for the count.

"Titans! Protect Changeling!" Nightwing called, leaping out from behind cover to go back him up himself.

Doctor Octopus was menacing the green chimp with a cart, poised to cruch the little guy with it.

"Hey 4-Arms," Cyborg shouted, his right hand converting to a sonic cannon. "If anyone's gonna pound on Changeling, it's me." He followed this up with a immediate blast of white noise, which forced Octavius to drop his waepon and cover his bleeding ears with his real hands in a futile attempt to block out the sound.

"Thanks...I think," Changeling said, reverting momentarily to human form before finishing off as a goat and butting Dr. Octopus. Still off balance from Cyborg's sonic attack, Octopus fell backwards, bumping his head against the corner of a desk and knocking himself out.

Wonder Girl grabbed Cyborg and advanced. Nightwing joined them. Only Raven hung back a bit, ready to move in to help her friends where she saw the need.

1. Vulture will pick up Mysterio and fly to L7. Mysterio is dropped off behind the desk at K8 *stealth*

free: Mysterio causes an image of photojournalists to run into the room snapping photographs of the buxom alien...she lowers her guard for a second to smile at them...(outwit toughness on Starfire)

2. Hobgoblin picks up Sandman and does a running shot...zips around the corner to M9 and fires on Starfire Av 9 vs Dv 15 need a 6 to do 2. Sandman is placed in L8. roll- 7 (1,6) hit for 2 vs Starfire

3. Murtoch hears voices in his head now that Doc ock is gone...and Mysterio has taken charge...the voices say..protect me. Murtoch runs forward and stans in front of Mysterio J9 looking with trembling knees at the tall woman holding the heavy object...

Changeling makes the ultimate sacrifice. He uses Titans ability to heal Starfire 1 click, taking the damage onto himself. He takes 1 more click for pushing, KOing himself.

Starfire grabs Nightwing and makes a Running Shot. Moves to D9, drops Nightwing in C8 (basing Bullseye) and attacks Electro. AV8 on DV14 +2 for ESD, +1 for hindering. Needs 9. Gets a 2. Raven invokes probability. Reroll is an 8. Still a miss, but at least it's better than a 2.

Cyborg pushes to use his Pulse Wave. AV9. A 4 will hit both Murtoch and Riggs, a 6 will hit Troia and a 7 will hit Mysterio. Gets an 8. All 4 characters take a click. Cyborg takes 1 himself.

"Star, lookout!" Changeling shouted. He grabbed her by the waist and started to throw her behind himself, just as Hobgoblin threw his pumpkin bomb. At the same time he attempted to change into a rhino to absorb the explosion. He managed to shield Starfire somewhat, but the explosion and the strain of trying to become something so large in his weakened condition was too much for him. He fainted away.

"Changeling!" Starfire yelled. She turned to Hobgoblin her green eyes blazing, "You shall pay for harming him."

"Starfire, wait," Nightwing caught her by the arm. "I think they're the bigger threat right now," he said, indicating Electro and Bullseye.

"I shall be back for you," she promised Hobgoblin, scooped up Nightwing and flew at Electro blasting with her starbolts. He threw up some sort of electricity shield and her shots rebounded harmlessly.

"Sorry Wonder Girl, but we need some wide range damage here," Cyborg apologized as he adjusted his sonic cannon to release an omnidirectional pulse. The hired help seemed the worse for it of course, but it also succeeded in dispersing Mysterio's smoke cloud.

"No problem Cyborg," Wonder Girl shouted over the din. "No worse than that heavy metal concert Changeling dragged us to last week."

free: electical emissions spark out from his body...causing Nightwing and Starfire to cry out in pain...(Poison) both take a click

1. Elektro will try and sock Starfire with an elektrically charged hand borrowing Bullseyes Av of 10 with SETA Av 10 vs Dv 14 need a 4 to do 3 roll- 3 (1,2) miss (i hate this dice...:silly: )

2.Bullseye will try and pistol whip Nightwing Av 10 vs Dv 16 need a 6 to do 1 roll- 9 (5,4) ok i take it back...nice dice...nightwing takes 1

3. Riggs shakes his head to clear it from the sonic boom...and tries to break away from the big amazon like woman holding up the UHO (thats Unidentified Heavy Object) roll- 4. he runs over to E10 and looks with lust at the alien woman...

4. Vulture will push and carry Sandman flying to H12. putting Sandman down in H11

the sonic waves had ended...and the team prepared for the next steps in this battle. with Doctor Octopus down...leadership had fallen to Mysterio...whose smoke canister had been ruined in the sonic attack.

Elektros body emanated sparkis of pure energy that struck both the acrobat and the starbolt firing alien who both seemed surprised....and shocked. He took a heavy handed swing at the flaming haired alien...who easily dodged it saying "I grew up fighting in the rings of Tamaran, you are no threat to me"

Bullseye looked at the stunned leader of this team of crime fighting youths and swung the butt of his pistol at him...catching him on the shoulder ..."Daredevil would have evaded that blow..." he said...

Riggs rolled away from the amazonian woman and ran over...slowing down and stopping in awe of the stunning beauty of the woman from tamaran

Vulture using experience obtained with age...cried out "come sandman while he recharges his cannon" and flew the silicate man to stand near the cyborg...

Darn Poison. I knew Nightwing was giong to take a click, but I thought Starfire still had 1 more click of Toughness. Sloppy on my part. Well, at least Electro's attack missed.

Raven phases to C12

Starfire will push to attack Electro, close combat this time. Rolling that 9 is too big a risk. AV8 on DV14, needs 6. Gets 6. Electro takes 2. Starfire takes 1 more.

Nightwing to Incapacitate Electro. AV6 on DV13, needs 7. Gets 9. Electro takes a token and a push click. At least that means no more Poison.

Troia to breakaway from your Thug. Gets 3. She's stuck.

"Nightwing, Starfire," Raven said, appearing in the room with them, "I have come to help."

"Thank you, Raven," Starfire said, "but I think I can handle this one." She decided against her starbolts for the more direct approach, delivering a sound punch to Electro's jaw. "Now that is satisfying."

"Good work, Starfire. Let me see if I can take him down another peg," Nightwing said, pulling a canister of pepper spray from his belt and getting Electro in the eyes with it. The villain cursed colorfully as he tried to tear his eyes out.

1. Mysterio will leave the security of the desk to walk over to stand next to the glider of Hobgoblin...move to M10

free: Mysterio will outwit Cyborgs toughness....using a jammer to cause static in his synapses.....(sounds good anyway)

2. Sandman will form a big hammer with his hands and bring it crashing down on The Big guy...Av 9 vs Dv 15 need a 6 to do 3 roll- 4 (2,2) miss...cyborgleaps backwars as the hammer smashes into the ground...

3. Hobgoblin will running shot, picking up Mysterio and flying to M14. placing Mysterio in M15 he throws a pumpkin at Cyborg Av 9 vs Dv 15 +1 for hindering = 16 need a 7 to do 2 roll- 6 (1,5) the pumpkin hits the ground at his feet...Cyborg leads a charmed life.

with that the scientific wizard of movie magic pushed a button on a little box...Cybogs armor plating peeled back to allow access to the inner motorservos...for maintenance

Sandman smiled and swung a heavy malleted fist at the Titan...who nimbly leaped backwards...."hah" he yelled at The Man of sand.

Just then a flaming pumpkin came up on the onboard radar of Cyborg who reacted quickly batting it out of the air with a mettalic hand to have it burts harmlessly nearby...

the syndicate all looked at each other....:confused:

Bullseye once more swung the heavy machine pistol into the collarbone of the acrobat watching him flinch...then he said "finish him max..." as the Electrical man reached a sparking hand out to grab the unsteady hand of Nightwing...watching him quickly try and pull back before the amps being generated blackened his hand and knocked him to the floor...

The Alien screamed "Richard!" as she turned her anger on Elektro...but not before giving a baleful glare at the Hood raising a gun to fire on her nearby...he squirmed and fired a round into the doorjam

Vulture patted Sandman on the heavy shoulder and said...Ill be right back...and he darted over the heads of the group fighting it out nearby to land near Bullseye...extending his hand

Mysterio caused the sonic cannon on The arm of the cyborg to be withdrawn back into his body....using sonic commands of his own..

Starfire to finish Electro, lets hope. AV7 on DV13, needs 6. Gets the 6. 2 more to Electro and he's out. Of course that opens up LoF from Bullseye to Starfire, razzin' frazzin'.

Raven goes on the offensive, attacks Vulture, to Incapacitate. AV8 on DV14. Gets 5. Rerolls her own attack. Gets the 6. Vulture takes 1.

Troia's a flier so she can use a ranged attack, even when based, meaning she'll toss the large piece of Kirby-esqu tech at Sandman. AV8 on DV15, needs 7. Gets a 10 (5+5). 3 for the HO -2 for Invulnerable, Sandy takes 1 and knockback to G12 (one of the few times I'm glad for that knockback).

"You have chosen the wrong team to cross paths with," Starfire snarled. She blasted at Electro with a starbolt. It knocked him off his feet, and he didn't get back up. He just lay there on the floor, little sparks leaping from his body, making "fzzt, fzzt" noises.

"And don't think you'll be allowed to carry your teammate to safety," Raven added. The shadowy bird form that surrounded her reached out and grabbed the Vulture in a dark talon. The villain began to sweat profusely as it probed his dark soul.

"Okay, I'm getting real tired of lugging this thing around," Wonder Girl said. "I can waste it on the help here," she said looking at the rather nervous thug, "or I can use it on one of the real threats." In one smooth motion, she swiveled in the air and sent the heavy piece of machinery flying at the Sandman. Marko exploded into a million grains of sand, only to reform seconds later a few feet away.

"Nice shot," he taunted, "but no way you're gonna be able to hurt the Sandman by throwing things at him."

"Why must villains always talk about themselves in the third person?" Wonder Girl asked. Murtoch just shrugged, having wondered the same thing about his employers himself.

once more Mysterio activated the defenses of Cyborg to access hidden maintenace points...to which Hobgoblin tossed several razor sharp batshaped shurikens which severed wires and damaged pricey electonics...which made the human-robot cross even more vulnerable to the attacks of the FX man...who bypassed key safety relays to cause feedback and cause irrepareable damage.

Sandman took a few steps over to get next to the warrior from tamaran...

the battle was going back and forth...equally damaging to both sides. who would win this battle of the dimensions...

Cyborg's going to try and knock that fishbowl off of Mysterio's head. AV6 on DV16, needs 10. Not even close with a 3.

I was considering a preemptive strike with Starfire on Bullseye, but between ESD and hindering she'd need 11. Even with Raven, that's not worth pushing for.

Things are beginning to look poorly for our heroes.

With Bullseye and Vulture out of the room, the only target that the Titans had was the gunsel in the doorway. Raven looked at Starfire. Starfire looked back with a tiny half-smile and a nod. Both women focused their powers on the hapless henchman. When the smoke cleared, the man was leaning shakily against the doorjamb.

"By X'hal. He's still standing."

"I'm impressed," Raven admitted.

Riggs' partner didn't fare as well in the other room. Winder Girl finished him off quickly with a high kick. She looked around at the other villains converging. "Oh boy," she thought.

Mysterio once again used the gasses that were one of his claims to fame...Troia shook her head and stumbled ....he aimed a gauntlet her way...fired a dart that seemed to be heading straight towards her only to be engulfed in darkness and disappear...

He glanced at the dark shrouded girl nearby...Hobgoblin nodded and said "yeah i was watching her focus on you...shes some kind of witch..."

with that he set his glider on hover and pulled out one of his pumpkin bombs which he threw at Troia..she was too dazed to bat it away...and it expolded on her shoulder causing her to faulter as Vulture swept in and dropped Sandman off next to her.....

Bullseye checked the load on his .45....this time he wouldnt miss....

still the smoke rose around the Titan Troia...and she staggered within it...her blow to Sandman had been a mighty one...staggering the strongman of the team...But Bullseye wouldnt let that deter him...with a callous laugh he brought the .45 to shoulder level and fired...this time has aim was not affected and the girl didnt have the strength to stop it...the round caught her in the shoulder and spun her around...just quick enough to avoid the blast of sand from Flint.....

Mysterio was eyeing the dark one...how to take her down...that was the question.
