This a thread devoted to anything montypython.

and it's not dead yet!

Montey Pythoin suffered from an unfortunate case of Montey Python syndrome: over-quoted and no longer funny. Same thing happened to Napoleon Dynamite and Chappelle's Show.

And there's so much Monty Python, but people only quote one of the three episodes and a half dozen of the tons of scetches.

Oh Lord, please don't burn us. Don't grill or toast your flock. Don't put us on the barbecue or simmer us in stock. Don't braise or bake or boil us or stir-fry us in a wok. Oh please don't lightly poach us or baste us with hot fat. Don't fricassee or roast us or boil us in a vat and please don't stick thy servants Lord in a Rotiss-o-mat.

Well, it doesn't exactly help that the cast have been performing those same half-dozen sketches live for years. If someone can rattle off the entire dead parrot sketch, it's because that particular routine has appeared everywhere (including Saturday Night Live, if I'm not mistaken). Personally, my favorites have always been, in no particular order:

* the Townswomen's Guild recreation of Pearl Harbor
* Sam Peckinpah's "Salad Days"
* the Philosopher Song
* Greeks vs. Germans in philosopher football
* the architect's sketch
* the two classic election sketches: Mr. Hilter and his "boncentration bamps" and the Silly Party candidate Tarquin Fintimlinbinwhinbimlim Bus Stop F'tang F'tang Ole Biscuit-Barrel

Are you telling me what to like? What do you think this is... the Spanish Inquisition?

* bang*
Door slams open and the Spanish Inquistion enters.

It's the Spanish Inquistion!

S I: "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition..."

I must agree... overquoting one or two "mainstream" sketches or movies is like people claiming they are fans of an alternative or punk group because they really love that one song that is played on mainstream radio.

I just watched the Meaning of Life recently. For some reason as I get older certain parts of Monty Python's skits and movies get funnier while other parts just remain funny out of pure nolstagia or just because silly humor never gets old to me.

"Let us praise God. O Lord...O Lord......Ooh, You are so big..."
"Ooh, You are so big..."
"So absolutely huge."
" ...So absolutely huge."
"Gosh, we're all really impressed down here, I can tell You."
"Gosh, we're all really impressed down here, I can tell You."
"Forgive us, O Lord, for this, our dreadful toadying, and..."
"And barefaced flattery."
"But You are so strong and, well, just so super."
"Fantastic."
"Amen."
"Amen."

Meaning of life was good, but Life of Brian is my fav. its so funny! Holy Grail was good, but overrated...

Yeah, the Holy Grail still remains perhaps the funniest film I've ever seen...I never get sick of it. Of course I always appreciated the part where Dennis lectures King Arthur about Anarco-syndicalism or the scene where the knight's in the castle question Arthur: "Where'd you get the Cocanuts?"...as I get older I appreciate The Life of Brian and The Meaning of Life more and more.

The Austrailian Table Wines bit is good stuff:

"This is not a wine for drinking, this is a wine for laying down and avoiding"

I also liked Dennis Moore (Lupin Bandit).

This is a particularly heavy wine and should only be used for hand to hand combat

My favourite Pysthon character is Johann Gambolputty de Von Ausfern-Schplenden-Schlitter-Crasscrenbon-Fried-Digger-Dingle-Dangle-Dongle-Dungle-Burstein-Von-Knacker-Thrasher-Applebanger-Horowitz-Ticolensic-Grander-Knotty-Spelltinkle-Grandlich-Grumblemeyer-Spelterwasser-Kurstlich-Himbleeisen-Bahnwagen-Gutenabend-Bitte-Ein-Nürnburger-Bratwustle-Gerspurten-Mitz-Weimache-Luber-Hundsfut-Gumberaber-Shönedanker-Kalbsfleisch-Mittler-Aucher Von Hautkopft of Ulm. Compared to many great composers, Johann Gambolputty de Von Ausfern-Schplenden-Schlitter-Crasscrenbon-Fried-Digger-Dingle-Dangle-Dongle-Dungle-Burstein-Von-Knacker-Thrasher-Applebanger-Horowitz-Ticolensic-Grander-Knotty-Spelltinkle-Grandlich-Grumblemeyer-Spelterwasser-Kurstlich-Himbleeisen-Bahnwagen-Gutenabend-Bitte-Ein-Nürnburger-Bratwustle-Gerspurten-Mitz-Weimache-Luber-Hundsfut-Gumberaber-Shönedanker-Kalbsfleisch-Mittler-Aucher Von Hautkopft of Ulm is seen as a misunderstood genius
