Did you know that…

Spike Spiegel’s name can be translated? Spiegel is the German word for “Mirror”

Jackie Chan is based on an actual person? The real Jackie Chan is famous for his fighting style which often involves using anything present as a possible weapon. The real Jackie also does his own stunts.

James Bond Jr. is actually James Bond’s nephew in the cartoon series? Basically that should mean that James had a brother also named James who had a son named James… ok now I am confused.

Sherlock Holmes is based on none other than the actual Sir Arthur Conan Doyle character? Sir Doyle was an excellent detective in his own right and created one of the most legendary detective icons who would one day be the inspiration behind DC comics Batman.

Tarzan has had hundreds of movies about him? He is based on Edgar Rice Burroughs original character from the books.

The four TMNT were named after the Old Masters in Reinassance? Yup, they were named after artists. They are teenagers, mutants, ninjas and turtles all in one AND they were named after artists. Genius!

Goliath was the only gargoyle to be named before the spell was put on them? It was only after a few hundred years before Broadway, Lexington and the others were named.

MacBeth is based on the character by William Shakespere? And according to the original story, Macbeth could not fall to a man born of a woman.

Disney’s Hercules is a comedic portrayal of Greek Mythology? The original Hercules is a LOT more different than the Disney one I tell you…

Pikachu was almost given an American name? When they needed to translate the names into English, they were stumped on renaming Pikachu, so they kept the name because they thought is was cute. Now his name became so popular nearly every kid on the globe knew him.

Kenshin Himura is an actual Japanese legend? He was surrounded by myth and legend until someone decided to give him his own cartoon. Curious how people like the show based on a person whose name was once feared in Japan.

The Thundercats are based on actual big game cats and their symbolisms? Lion-O is a Lion (King of Beasts and symbol of truth and bravery) Panthro is a Panther (Known for its great power) Tygra is a Tiger (Worshiped in some cultures as a symbol of wisdom) and Cheetara is a Cheetah (Symbol of speed)

Captain Planet has an enemy named Captain Pollution? And if you thought Planet’s weakness was bad, anything CLEAN hurt Captain Pollution.

Wizardmon is loosely based on a DC comic book character? Dr. Johnathan Crane AKA Scarecrow can be found in Wizardmon’s character in several places. They look somewhat alike (Ragged Clothes, Pointy Hat, Stitched Mouth etc.) and one of Wizardmon’s attacks involves him creating a cloud of fear gas that produces the same effect as the gas Scarecrow is famous for.

Magmar is actually from the same series as Leader One and Cy-Kill? He was the main villain in the Go Bots movie “Rock Lords”

Optimus Prime’s name is redundant? Optimus means “The Best” Prime also means “The Best”, so basically when you say “Optimus Prime is the best” you are actually making no sense at all.;)

Genie is based from Persian mythology? In Persian mythology, Genies could grant infinite wishes. The notion that a Genie only grants three was a myth made by Disney.

Mozenrath was actually supposed to be Aladdin’s brother? Part three of the Aladdin movie trilogy originally had the two of them as brothers, but they switched stories and ended up with another one of Al’s relatives: His Dad.

I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed making this!

Here's another fact you might not know: Birds go tweet. That stuff was obvious the moment we saw the cartoons.

Re: Tarzan: No! Really? C'mon...

The Genie is not really a Persian myth, it is middle eastern mythology. And djinn (closer to original pronunciation) never granted wishes. They were simply beings of vast magical power. If they felt like giving you something you got it. Usually in the worst possible way. Their appearance is based on sandstorms in the vast Arabian deserts. The closest equivalent in the west would be spirits, although this fails to represent the vast power they possessed.

As far as Hercules...Disneyfying great stories to make them into easily digestible pap is a tradition. Read Lewis Carroll's original Alice in Wonderland. Although it is a child's story it does have a strong literary bent and depth to it, having been written in a time when children were expected to learn to think, and not just live out their sugar-coated lives sitting there like the slack-jawed mouth breathing goobers they are, drooling into their lap because Nintendo is putting out a new version of Link's continuing quest to save his abduction prone girlfriend.

Or he had a sister who married someone else called James Bond.

This isn't quite right. Holmes was mostly based on Dr Joseph Bell,
who Doyle knew from Medical School.
Doyle wasn't as great as he was keen.
