View Full Version : Starship Enterprise vs. Battlestar Galactica
I can't resist posting my own completely geeky and inarguably unnecessary VS thread on the new forum.
Anyways, this is a deep space fight between Captain Kirk's Enterprise (NCC 1701) and the Battlestar Galactica.
I'd give the fight to the Enterprise. I don't think the Galactica's fighters have the fire power to break through the Enterprise's shields, while Chekov was enough of a marksman with the ship's phasers to be able to gradually pick the Vipers off.
Also, if memory serves, the Galactica mostly just has anti-fighter weaponry mounted on it--once again, nothing that can penetrate the Enterprise's shields. Battlestars are equipped with missles as well, but a few more well-placed Phaser volleys can take them out.
That leaves the Galactica at the mercy of a devestating photon torpedo volley.
Enterprise wins.

Agreed, although I don't think the Enterprise is going to do much about the Vipers-- but she won't have to, either.
Enterprise has a much better crew. If it were the new Galactica, Kirk would romance Starbuck

This is kind of apples to oranges. Does Galactica even have shields?

Ok lets throw the Death Star in this discussion with all its Tie fighters

With proper time to prepare, Batman and the Batmobile/chopper/plane/glider/hovercraft/boat/tricycle/unicycle/gyroscope could do it.

You know, DTM was talking about doing a tournament like this a while back. I think he scrapped it due to a perceived lack of interest, but I was all excited about it. I even went so far as to suggest different weight classes: fighter/freighter (the Falcon would be the top limit ship, so this would be open to all fighter, bomber, and escort class ships); capital ship - ship of the line (which would include multipurpose vessels like Galaxy class starships and gun platforms like Birds of Prey); and capital ship - carrier class (examples include Star Destroyers, Battlestars, and the ExoFleet flagship Resolute II).

The new BSG is too realistic to compete with the Enterprise.

This is a neat idea. Who would be in the figher/freighter class?
Vipers (from B.G.)
Star Wars:
A-Wing
B-Wing
X-Wing
Y-Wing
TIE fighter
TIE Interceptor
Millenium Falcon
Star Trek:
Armed Runabouts
Jem-Hader (sp?) fighters
(Are there any other S.T. fighters?)
Babylon 5 fighters (I'll have to look them up--I think most of the races in that show had a fighter class.)
Can anyone think of anything else? I may take it upon myself to start a thread for this.

I agree too. All the Enterprise would have to do is transport a photon torpedo onto the Galactica and detontae it. Plus she can fire her weapons and manuver at warp speed.

They're not from a show, but hard to pass up the wildly popular Wing Commander (and no, the movie doesn't count) series ships. My TCS Midway says you can take your armada and go HOME! Nothing says loving insta kill anti fleet or anti ship weapons (shields of any magnitude be ######).
Also Descent:Freespace 1&2. No human fleet killing weapons there. Just kick butt ships
Ive gotta for Enterprise. Ive actually just finished watching the ENTIRE SERIES of BSG (from the 70s) and my wife and I really enjoyed them. That being said, I think the Enterprise is just a more advanced ship and would win in the end. But DONT discount the military cunning and intellect of Commander Adama, Id say hes certainly on par with Kirk, when the council of the 12 isnt FORCING him to do something silly, mind you. :)
As for anyone interested in doing a Starship TOC, youre more than welcome to use or work off the list of ships I was emassing to do so.

In a straight up battle where you don't add in stuff like teleporting torpedoes inside the Galactica, the Galactica has a good shot. The Galactica can fire multitudes of missiles at once. There is no way that the Enterprise's phasers could take them all out before impact. The Galactica also has very heavy lasers. Its lasers are strong enough to pierce the Enterprise's shields. I am not talking about its small defensive lasers which would be useful for knocking out tropedoes. I am talking about its main laser which has been used to blanket an entire planet. While the Galactica has no shields, it is much larger than the Enterprise and has fleets of vipers to help it in combat.
Hey, the Enterprise-nil from TOS regularly fought at warp speeds, practically nothing in TV or movie SF can even touch it!
The revised Star Trek and the A and beyond, on the other hand, can be fought by the Galactica, but win simply due to high tech levels, shields (the BSG did have superconducting armor or somesuch which allowed it some protection, but not that much), better weapons, etc..
The problem with most SF ship versus is that in terms of destructive power and capabilities, there tends to be large differences, so it's only occasionally that you get a good fight.

There's no way to gague the strength of any sci-fi ship's offense or defense.
The ONLY way to make a comparison is to say that they're all relatively equal, and then draw the fight based on unique technology, cunning, and ability of the crew.
Under that assumption that at least levels the playing field, the fight is a little less one sided.
If BSG (2005 version) went up against the original enterprise, you'd have to assume that BSG would have the armorment to eventually pierce Enterprises shield.
Once that happens, the enterprise has been shown to be slow to target and attack. All starfights in Star Trek are battleship to battleship. They don't have fighters.
That being the case, if BSG can survive long enough to take down enterprises shields, the Vipers will tear the enterprise appart.
Also, you can't count on Enterprise's transporter, since they'd have to lower the shield momentarily to even use it, and since they'd be under constant bombardment from Vipers, even a short gap would be exploited.
I give the edge to Battlestar.

Plus, Galactica had Apollo, Starbuck, AND Commander Adama. They'd own the Enterprise if all they had were space-slingshots. ;)
Heck, even the old BSG had POWER. Just watched a show (remember, I just finished watching the entire seasons DVDs) where the BSG surrounded an Entire Planet in a force field that repelled MANY nuclear warheads, with little effort. Again, that is POWER! All in all Id say the Galactica has a good chance, especially with all of her fighters to the Enterprises none.
