Well being Canadian normally we could talk about hockey...but theres the lockout so we can't do that....and winters over so we cant talk about how bloody cold it is outside.....
So does anyone have any good newfoundland jokes?;)
We could talk about Canadian inventions or creations that have greatly influenced the world.
Just imagine the world without the telephone.

We could praise border radio. Or the Film Board of Canada (they're cute because they try so hard - and their website is fantastic). Oh, I know! Kids in the Hall! Who doesn't love them?
The telephone?....kids in the hall?.....the film board of canada?......yikes sorry if i have trouble containing my excitement;) Besides everyone knows that the TV show "trailer park boys" is our greatest gift to the world.
Now I need you guys to think of Canadian comic book characters because i'll be ####ed if im stuck as "Stompin" Tom Cochrane or Anne murray;)

Welcome to whoever has joined in the last little while.
someone is wolverine and someone else is someone else, welcome. It was on the last page and I know that they both picked canadians that nobody else had, but I forget who.
JPV, how about the wendigo he's pretty cool. Is Deadpool a cannuck, he was in the weapon X project wasn't he?
the CBC is awesome (the TV not the radio) I love how they use those BBC camera's, everthing looks like it was filmed in the early eighties. They have put out some fine shows: The Beachcombers, The Racoons, Kids in the Hall, SCTV, Degrassi. We will all just have to forget about Mike Bullard.
We also made Insulin and Basketball and those flaps on plane wings that allow them to land. And we had a prime minister that was into the occult and a bunch that were raging alcoholics. Sure JFK could drink but he couldn't drink like MacDonald, John A got the railroad built through drunken deals and presents of free booze. And we whupped the states in our only war, three cheers for Laura Secord.

lensnart
04/15/2005, 16:55
Good point, are there and DC cannucks? I bet not since DC likes their guys to come from imaginary cities, they try to avoid real world connections when it comes to origins. It would be cool though if they at least had a fake canadian city for their guys to come from, like an opal city or metropolis of the north.

So we are ruling the world cup so far. Too bad I now hate all of these guys. I hope that we get scab hockey next year. It's funny that the players would be down on scabs when they went and played in europe last year, doesn't that kind of make them scabs, at the very least they were taking roster spots away from more worthy players. If there is scab hockey I will so try out, even the junior players will stay away because it will hurt their chances later. I am going to be the worst NHLer ever.

The NHL announced that they are not going to use replacement players next season so that means another year of the same :ermm:
Alpha Flight has been mentioned, but i wanted to point out a few lesser known Canadian indy heroes. Captain Canuck is being rebooted in a series i haven't read, but i remember the earlier version. There was also a pretty good series called Northguard - super-heroics, political intrigue, espionage, teen drama. I think Northguard's Quebecois themed "sidekick" may have been named Fleur-de-Lys.
Bernie Mireault's character "the Jam" took the super out of super-hero, but if i'm remembering correctly was Montreal based.
Oh well. That's all i've got right now.

Since I can't be Mike Myers, I'll just quote Peter Griffin: "Canada sucks!" ;)
Whoa- what happened there? The Reply screen just went all wonky...
But, as I was about to say: Greetings, folks. I'd mention something about othernational pro-Canadian fan-ism making me a little uncomfortable, but I don't want to discourage anybody.
That Captain Canuck relaunch 3-issue thing was done by a couple of guys from where I'm at, Brandon (Manitoba). They had their signing at my comic shop, actually (I just work there - I don't own it...yet...). It was strange to hear that one of the first sold-out/re-order situations was from the American south. Glad y'all liked it.
Now, if I were to be another Canadian thing to represent myself, what would I be?
Howzabout..."Not A Gapper"? Nah, too anti-Saskatchewan.
"The Perogie"? Originally Ukrainian.
"The Loonie!" Yeah. I'm all over the place, too.

Superman (eh?), Nelvana of the Northern Lights, Johnny Canuck, Captain Canuck, and Fleur de Lys - Canada Post debuted them in 1995. I was going to link to a website that gave some details on them, but apparently Tripod sites can't get past the new and improved filter. I guess we need to be protected against free personal web page hosts for some reason. Well, here's a commercial site (http://www.downtownstamps.bc.ca/stamps/sales_stamps_heros.html) where you can get them for the bargain price of only CDN$9.95. Note that the Superman stamp is *much* cooler than the one that the US would release three years later.

Chretien rocked, and he wore his arrogance and jerkiness on his sleeve you've got to respect that in a politician.
My predications for Canadian hockey
Edmonton won't even make the playoffs next year, Calgary is going to be better offensively and will come second in the regular season in the west but they will lose in the semi's, Toronto will suck as always but leaf fans will swear that they have one of the best teams in the league, The couve will make the playoffs but go out in the first. Ottawa won't be as good in the regular season but in a bizarro twist they will make the finals. Montreal are always a wild card they should be worse this year but maybe they will be better.
I forget who I was last time so this time I will join as Jason Priestley.
Quite so.

I was actually being genteel by not doing anything too flamey at that point. He is certainly not that familiar with me. As to the remaining categories, despite my childlike enjoyment of many things life has to offer, I am, by the majority of definitions (legal included) not a child.
Neither am I a pet...my lady's remarks notwithstanding.
..and as to my status as a God of any type, depending on the manner of '
Soph' in your moniker, I suppose we could discuss the interpretation of deific status or divine aspects in the individual, but I suspect our points in that regard and at this time are understood in motive by most.
I'm giving xXHushXx the benefit of the doubt, though...either his targeting for that comment was vague and not *obviously* at me,or he is revealing himself as having less character than snarky wit.

A big, water-soluble kidder? (No problem. No serious offense taken.)
And, Soph? You can surely and for certain keep your metres of snow. We get enough in the useful areas with drifting and blowing, and I gots me a little Civic that needs to get me around in the -40s. Poor little guy.:o
Any more snow than we get now and I'd never find it to drive.
ARRGH! More weather! How did this happen?!?
Off to see how Ogg did with PowerBomb.
I miss the snow (I live in Toronto)
I miss looking out and seeing everything covered in a beautiful white coat...not slathered in grey slop
I miss multi-coloured trees dropping their leaves (the smell of fresh raked leaves...)
But I do not miss the desperation (town has lost 15000 people since I left), the lack of friends (all my friends moved away) and the lack of jobs (27% unemployment despite the loss of all those people!)

We could covertly make a clan that would be the Canada Clan, but is registered under some philosophical stuff..... like all secret agent-ish.
Stompin Tom CONNORS
Tom Cochrane, while Canadian, is not the same person.
And you call yourself Canadian...
And, to our American friends, we do not pronounce 'about' as 'aboot'. Maybe maritimers do, but Ontarians pronounce it 'a-bowt' with bow sounding like 'bough', as in a part of a tree

For the last time, I have no affiliation with Tie Domi, the Toronto Maple Leafs or hockey in general. I'm just a guy who happens to have the same username as the last name of a hockey player by the extreme coincidence that his last name is the first four letters of my first name.

Johnny LaRue is indeed the fictional owner and operator of SCTV (or was Guy Cabelero the owner and Johnny the director) and lover of crane shots. He is not really french so I will pretend that my poor french is representative of this, and not of my not paying attention in my three years of french in Junior High.
Munchoboy welcome to the clan, as you well know from the many celebrities that we claim as our own, all you need is to be 1/16 canadian, have vacationed here for more than a fortnight and not be from Toronto and we will gladly accept you as one of our own.

It does, indeed, and your informants have not led you astray. We always get a couple of weeks of 30+ C weather, usually preceded by a week or so of rain, just to ensure the growth performance of that provincial bird.

Toronto has squat in terms of 'heritage'
It was a second rate city that somehow managed to finagle its way to being the capital of Ontario
And then it grew, passing wannabe cosmopolitan and worldly Montreal in its dust

The Hart Bros are from Alberta....Calgary specifically....it was called Stampede wrestling. Know your history...like in 1812 we burned down the White House...ok Britain and a bunch of trappers called "Canadians" burned down the White House.
So really Britain and a bunch of consripts burnt the White House down...no wonder the US is wary of UK royalty ;)
As for architectural heritage....Le Canada has little. We are too young to claim that. See other parts of the world, and see what historical heritage is really about.

After that we can talk about the archeological dig I was on outside of Winik-you know--north enough that you actually have to worry about polar bears...tough guy.
I laugh in the face of people who make jokes about other people making jokes.

I laughed at this. I'm from Belleville, which is "Eastern Ontario", but not really that far east. Calling Sault "Northern Ontario" is just funny when you actually look at a map.
Timmins is further North. Thunder Bay is further North. The entirety of, and more importantly, the southernmost part of, any one of the Prairie provinces and British Columbia is further North. Probably 95% of Canada is further North than Sault Ste. Marie.
I laugh at people who consider the Soo to be "Northern".
As for the Oh Canada Clan... I'm not much of a clan person. But I do find it funny that two of the most recent members, who both joined on this very page, have both been banned since then. Must'a been some'a'dem punk kids that hang out at that mall rassum frassum.
Hey, my fiancee and I are thinking about taking our honeymoon in Canada. Talking about renting a cabin or something and staying about a week. Anybody here know somewhere we can do something like that, or where we could go and do something (besides the obvious honeymoon something) while we're there?

Depends what time of year it is. There are some really nice places in British Columbia during the spring and summer months, and some nice ski resorts and mountains during the winter months. Prince Edward Island is one of my favourite vacation spots from spring through fall, and you can see the whole island in a day.
It really matters what you're looking to do on your honeymoon. It's not like saying "we were thinking of taking our honeymoon in Florida." The entirety of Canada is bigger than the entirety of the U.S.A., so as you can imagine, there's lots of options in there.

I'm from Toronto--born and raised. But you think Sault is Northern Ontario? I laugh in your face--work a shift re-planting spruce swamp in the james bay area in may then come talk to me. tough guy--Try a foot of snow outside your tent in June.
After that we can talk about the archeological dig I was on outside of Winik-you know--north enough that you actually have to worry about polar bears...tough guy.
I laugh in the face of people who make jokes about other people making jokes.
