Am I the only person hooked on this game?

I used to be totally hooked on it. Thanks to a 12 step program I am now minesweeper free.

What your best time on Expert? I beat it in like 220 seconds or something like that. I can't even remember anymore, but I was sure proud of it back in the day.

I used to be hooked on it really bad. I think my best times were about:
6 seconds for beginner
42 seconds for intermediate
182 seconds for expert

But it's been a while so I may be off. And those were before I went to a trackball. My times with the trackball were much slower.

I was also addicted to a MahJongg game as well as Shisen-Sho for a while.

I always up it to the largest possible size with the least amount of mines. I like the game, but I also have a fragile ego to protect.

My best times are 8 seconds, 58 seconds and 291 seconds respectively.
I was hooked on the game for a time, but I had forgotten about it.
Until now.

Somebody please help me.

I love logic puzzles and other games like that, but for some reason, I have never liked Minesweeper. In fact, I have never made it past one or two games in a row. I have no way to explain this.

Perhaps I will give it another try right now. Work is slow today...

Oh, you guys are behind the times. Have you played MSN Messanger Minsweeper?

This game is substantially better than solo minesweeper.

In this version the object is not to avoid the bombs but rather to find them. It's a large map, and you and your opponent take turns clicking the map to try to find flags. If you find one you get to go again. There are 51 flags out there, so the game continues until one player has found 26 of them. Plus, if you are behind, once per game you can set off a bomb that finds all flags in a 5x5 area.

This game has many layers of subtle strategies. At first you might think it is total luck. But it's sort of luck with strategy mixed in to improve your odds.

If you have msn messanger and are looking for an opponent, look me up at mboyle@microsoft.com I'm sort of at an advanced level, you will probably have a difficult time beating me for your first 50-60 games until you catch on to all the subtalties. It's really fun if you start playing some one of your level (beginner), then as you compete with him you will slowly pick up on all the nuances. I've been doing this with a fellow I work with for the last year or so, it's been a hoot.

For a solo game in the spirit of Minesweeper....give this a try. You have to turn all the "wires" to connect all the "devices" they light up green when you have them lit. You can also spin the power source in the middle.

(Crazy high scores are possible. Well over a million....been a while since I've played but I believe 2+ million is possible.)

You lose points for "Extra turns" and a fast time is critical.
