I wouldn't worry about that. Hollywood ran out of originality a loooooong time ago. All they have now if Book/Comic Book Adaptations and remakes of older movies!

How does the Sin City and Constantine universes tie in with the normal DC or other comic book universes? I remember reading somewhere that the Phanton Stranger was in a Constantine book. Please post who owns the rights if it is DC or a DC owned company? Thanks from the guy who was only fed Marvel when he was young.

In an article I read, the reviewer said it was too violent. And it was trash.
But, you know, they are missing the actual point of the comic book. And the adaption, which I must say, was fabulous.

How could I forget the classic film, The Beverly Hillbillies?!?
Sin City isn't related to DC Comics at all, although Batman would make an interesting visitor to Basin City....
Constantine is loosely in the DCU. There are characters who know him, (Zatanna, Swamp Thing) but by and large, Vertigo is basically it's own universe. (It IS a part of DC continuity, though. Confused yet?)
And anyone who hasn't read the Sin City books is missing out--I'm sure your local B & N has them with the movie out now. Go pick them up....

Going to a Heroclix tournament tonight. Afterwards, most of the players and I will be going to go see "Sin City." Can't wait.
Forget B & N, I'll wait for it to come to my library. Then I can read 'em for free!
Haven't read the books, but I'm seeing it tonight. The visuals look amazing. A lot of my friends who usually hate comic book movies are really pumped for it. Can't wait!

Sin City is put out by Darkhorse comics, and the rights are owned by Mr. Frank Miller himself. To the comic, not Dark Horse.

Without a doubt, one one the best movies I have ever seen.
I take that back. it is the best movie I have ever seen.
Wow. Amazing. Best movie I've seen for a while. Just amazingly unique and brilliant (and violent). I'm going to have to go out and read all the books now. Why couldn't the Punisher movie be so sadistic?

Seriously consider dropping everything to see this movie. Frank Miller has of course once again shocked the world by putting together an amazing movie.
I saw it this afternoon, and I was blown away. Absolutely stunning visuals that I will definately have to reexamine after seeing it again. I am a film student, and by god this movie was great!

Actually, I saw the movie twice in one day. Once before the Heroclix tournament and another time after the Heroclix tournament. Definitely going to go see it a few more times.

Jessica Alba is/was definitley HOT!!!
Saw Sin City last nite and loved it, I never read any of the graphic novels so I knew not what to expect.
It had a Pulp Fiction feel [thanks Quinton!] Plus it was campy, funny, gory, twisted and a bunch of other things...
I'm glad I didn't take my kids [11 & 14] to see it. It was a tad tooo much. :noid:
A big nod goes out to Mickey Rourke, I haven't enjoyed him on the big screen since Harley Davidson & Marlboro Man!;)
Bruce Willis has always been the shiz-nit [yeah I even liked Hudson Hawk! ]
And the new dude.... played Arthur.... You know the guy, Jude Law stole Julie Roberts from him in that one movie.... anyway He was awesome as DWIGHT.
It's cool when comic book movies rock!:classic:
Go see it!
And leave the kids at home!!!! :noid:

I saw a midnight showing last night.
I also read the comics just before going to see it.
The movie focuses on 3 separate stories, book 1, 3, and 4.
And let me tell you, the movie was spot on page for page, word for word EXACTLY like the comic.
This is probably the most exact copy adaptation of a comic book movie I have ever seen! Every single cheezy line and monologue, every panel shot and picture was dead on exactly like the comic. The only difference between this movie and the comic was that it had moving pictures, you got to hear the voices of the characters and there was music behind the story.
All that said, it is still a great movie. The only thing I would warn people about is if you haven't read the comics, you should know this is a very intense story and the all the characters are VERY HARDCORE. It's violent, with nudity and the content is very, very DARK!
But the black and white atmosphere with splashes of color make the film look original and stunning to watch. So I recommend to all MATURE audiences. Just remember, it is rated R for a reason. ;)

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!! I apologize to Frank Miller on my doubts, it absolutely rocked.
I went into this movie not knowing jack and I got my money back plus 10 fold. Without a doubt, the most stunning and original visual comic book movie adaptation ever. Never read the books but I've seen pictures of it and it's dead on.
Loved the violence(which I knew there would be lots of) and was floored at how funny it was.
Loved all the women, all hot(Carla Cugino, Marv's right, you can have anyman with a bod like that) and just loved all the characters, good casting job.
Big pound to Mickey Rourke(Marv in the movie). I saw a behind the scenes thing on cable and he was the one character I couldn't wait to see. I loved him, definitely my favorite.
It's great to see the cameo of Frank Miller in this movie as well.
It's about time they did the Movie adaptations the right way.
:devious:Did anyone else think this was Mickey's best roll?

Saw it last night, amazing and a heck of alot of fun. The cameo by Frank Miller was pretty cool.
Elijah Wood as Kevin = CREEEPY!
Go see it if you haven't yet and if you haven't read the book its based on, pick it up!
I was trying to figure out which scene Tarantino had his hand in. I had heard he "guest directed a scene...anyone know?
I think Quentin directed the Alley shootout with Dwight.
I loved it.
I like the bang bang scene with the girls in Old time.
Wow.
I am a big fan of the Comics andall I can say is wow. It was near perftect.
I think that Tarintino directed the ally ambush of Jackie-boy, it was a different style than the rest of the movie.

This pretty well sums up what I said to Creed after watching the midnight showing - "They couldn't have done a better job if they had literally animated the comics frame for frame."

It was the scene with Dwight and Jacky-boy driving in the car, with the cop following them.
just got back from seeing it with a group of 5 friends.
4 thumbs up out of 5.
my friends wife.. i don't think she enjoyed it too much.
my only problem with the movie was madsen... painful line delivery.
and honestly, i'm not all that impressed with alba.... plenty of attractive women in this movie.
i'll take rosario dawson or devon aoki myself.
hope the movie does well, like 12 people walked out of our showing like a half hour into it.
What was Frank Miller's cameo? I must've missed it (LOVED this movie BTW).

Miller was the priest Marv shot in the head.
I just saw it. I love Sin City and the movie captured the essence perfectly. Elijah Wood definently showed his range as an actor showing he could play the creepy psycho. Benicio made a great Jackie-boy.
Elijah Wood was in my opinion the freakiest character in the movie. Those glasses creeped me out.

If your friend doesn't cut his fingernails for a month, then yes you should be scared.
I love that movie. I heard that Frank Miller wasn't going to do it until Rodriguez showed him the opening scene with Josh Hartnett and the girl in the red dress. It was a very well done movie and I saw it at the best theatre in the city.

The funny thing about Elijah's character was he didn't have any lines in the entire movie! I'm not sure if you can really call that "range" in acting.

Yeah, he did do an amazing job looking creepy, and he kicked a lot of ###. But still I don't think you can win an oscar for just looking scary. Take any horror film and the so called villian or monster will look creepy or scary but that doesn't make them an outstanding actor. You've got to have some dialogue. Take the character of Hannible Lector in Silence of the Lambs, for example. Now that's a creepy and outstanding acting job. But what small portion Elijah Wood did in the film of Sin City is not a portrail of his range in acting. They could have gotten almost anyone to fill that role. Elijah did a great job, but it was really just a minor role and he was not the star of this film so therefore does not deserve too much credit. Just my opinion, but there ya go.

I saw it Friday morning. I thought about 1/3 of it was amazing, 1/3 of it was intriguing, and the last 1/3 greatly tested my patience. There were parts throughout the movie where I was actually bored. Once the visual style gets old (after about 30 minutes), chunks of the story just aren't interesting. I thought that about some of the books as well (though they were more entertaining and believable on paper).
And don't get me wrong, I like alot of movies that most people think are disturbing or too violent, etc (Happiness, Requiem for a Dream, Kill Bill, Passion of the Christ). However, this movie disturbed me BIG TIME! I was so uncomfortable during parts of the movie that I began to wonder if I was actually being entertained...pedophiles, cannibals, sadists? But, then again, it's not called Sin City for no reason, eh?
I still can't decide if I liked it or not. I think I like the idea of the movie, but I don't think I'll ever watch it again.

Can't think of the actor's name as I am at the club drunk as a skunk waiting for a female to come out of the bathroom, but one actor did win an oscar for a movie he was in and he did not utter one word, now do I think they'll nominate Elijah, more than likely not [heck they didn't nominate Val Kilmer for Doc Holliday and he was spectacular] But Elijah did do an awesome job and I'm telling every one I know to go see this movie!!!!

Holly Hunter won Best Actress in 1993 for the Piano in which she had no spoken words. She had a few lines of narrative thought at the very beginning and at the end, but she never spoke to another character.

I still can't decide if I liked it or not. I think I like the idea of the movie, but I don't think I'll ever watch it again. That pretty much summed up my feelings exactly about the movie Se7en. I thought, 'ok, that was a good movie. I think. And I'll never ever watch it again.'
I didn't think that about sin ciy. Probably because so much of it was over the top that even a lot of the serious stuff seemed a little silly.
Still, overall it was a good movie. I don't think I'll see it again in the theater, there were some slow parts. But I'll probably pick up the DVD (that I expect to be filled to the gills with extras.)

So, is it worth seeing? ;)
I will be going in not knowing anything about the comics so I don't have any kind of expectations one way or another. Visually it looks cool.
From this thread it sounds like most people thought it was great. Would rather hear from other "geeks" than some critic paid to write about it.
Looking forward to seeing it.

I watched Sin City yesterday. A brilliant film. Everything about it works. The performances are all outstanding (especially Mickey Rourke). The violence is harsh, but it's the same kind of violence in Kill Bill: cartoon violence.
Elijah Wood is very very creepy. What a departure for him to take the role he did.
Watch this movie!!!

Best movie EVER, by the way. I read the stories the day before I saw it, and I was amazed at how many of the scenes are word-for-word, shot-for-shot, panel-for-panel from the comic. Amazing.

It was hardly "brilliant", but people said the same thing about Kill Bill. (Another movie that will be forgotten in 10 years.)
I liked it, but it wasn't as good as I hoped it would be. (Or as good as some folks are saying.)

People also said that Pulp Fiction was "brilliant" and they are still talking about Pulp Fiction!
I see myself 10 years from now saying "Let's pop in the Sin City RVD [Rvd will be a new type of video format 10 years from now.....really!] " That Marv sure is one whacked out fella!"
Tarantino directed the scene with Jakie-boy in his Pez dispenser state talking to Owen in the car.
I think the best description I've seen of this film was over at , where one reviewer called it "The most innovative dumb film you'll watch this year."
I saw that on Saturday morning and was like, "Yes! Somebody else gets it!"
Have a Great Day,
