Here's a topic that might seem a little off-topic, but if you were faced with the choice, which would you rather have to live without, TV, or the Internet?

i voted internet connection, because without tv i would go nuts without being able to watch my two fav shows (and admittidly the only shows i watch on tv) 24 and House

Internet i can live without....tv i cant :)

we've been without tv now for almost 2 years.
i only miss two shows.
mythbusters and justice league.

other than that, i think that not watching any tv anymore has been a real positive in our life.

Through my internet connection I get my news, sports, and most importantly, information on my activities (re: CLIX). It's also the way I most reguarly stay in contact with family and friends. There's not a lot on TV that I'd miss - 24, Smallville, JL, South Park.
TV fills gaps in time uselessly. The internet is how I connect to everyone.

I can download TV shows :cheeky:

Hhhmmmm.

I need my TV. The O.C. and 24 are must haves! and i just cant get the same fun out of the internet.

Heh, I already don't have any TV at my place. The very few shows I do want to watch (like 24 and Battlestar Galactica) by buddy tapes and brings over and we make a night of it. The Internet however, is just too usefull, from school to games to browsing to getting whatever cool TV shows you've already missed (like The Venture Brothers).

I'd rather live without tv, because with the Internet I can get any shows I want, but I can't websurf on the tv.

I can live without TV. There are very few shows I watch anymore. And those I do watch eventually make it to DVD. Make Mine the Internet! 'Nuff Said.

I was without a tv for about three months. The old one blew and I just didn't have the money for a new one. I didn't go nuts or anything.

I wouldn't cry if my internet went either, but that's just me.

Manchine
04/04/2005, 18:03
There are only a few shows that I actually watch. My wife doesnt understand how I can sit here and chat or play games. I always come back with how can you sit in front of the TV for hours and Veg out.

I could live without TV pretty easy...I miss most of the shows I really like to watch each week anyway, but if I have my time to myself, I'm heading up to the computer to login...

I could live without TV because I lost Internet Connection on Sunday(Evil Comcast:angry:) and it was torture.

i only watch star trek, anyway.

Already not watching much TV, seems most of what is placed on TV these days disgusts me in some way. Pretty much only watch TV when I'm eating dinner sense my Mom is a TV nut. Now if you said Radio that would be a tough choice, not sure what I would do without NPR, and Coast to Coast. Best thing about Radio is I can listen to it wile on the comp, booyah!.

04/04/2005, 19:41
I only watch four shows on TV: Smallville, Lost, JLU and Teen Titans. Smallville and Lost come on at the same time on the same day, so I'm already begging someone to tape Lost for me. I would feel very disconnected without an internet connection; I wouldn't know what was going on (with Heroclix or anything else!).

XBox live is much more entertaining than watching TV...and I'd manage to hook my Xbox up to my computer monitor....so yeah, I can live without TV.

04/04/2005, 19:50
tv stinks nowadays ... they cancel all the good shows and put carp like american idol or survivor or the many copies of those shows on the air ....:ermm: :ermm: i'm down to watching like 6 show's a week ... other than sports ....:devious: :devious:

TV, I don't have, anyway.

How could I live without you guys?

I could go without TV easy.
I hate the phone, so I usually talk to everyone I want to talk to online. I can also send someone mail, download any tv shows, music, games, apps, or insensitive things I want, buy and sell pretty much anything, and do my banking online.

Psylockeslover
04/04/2005, 21:50
TV definately (as long as I can keep the set for my PS2/Xbox).

Even when I 'watch' TV, I'm not really watching it. I just kinda have it on while I'm doing something else. I'm 'watching' TV right now, but have no idea what is actually going on......

Since I make my living on the internet, I guess I'd have to live without TV. :)

Yeah I could live without tv/cable.I would just watch and buy more movies.;)

JKLantern
04/04/2005, 22:30
Well, due to some sorta psychological glitch of some kind, I find it easiest to talk to my friends over the internet. And my friends generally keep me relatively sane.

So, I'd prefer to live without TV. Rarely watch it anyway.

I voted that I'd rather do without internet...It was a hard choice but their a are a few shows that I'm really hyped up about at the moment.

I think some of you are trying to have it both ways...I think it was meant that if you pick TV/Cable you are including watching any DVDS or TV shows, including online...I mean if not then I would definitely rather have Internet because then it would be like having TV too for the most part.

The shows I'm all about right now are, just for curiosity, Lost, Zatch Bell, Full Metal Alchemist, Judging Amy, Alias, Law and Order:Trial By Jury, Ghost in the Shell, Angel(I missed it the last time the last season aired so I'm getting to see it now...enjoying it alot too bad I'm about to see the last episode :()

04/05/2005, 01:35
My tv watch list is 24, Stargate, House, Sportscenter, my tv avoid list is American Idol, Survivor(now if they actually had someone die at the end of each episode it would be worth watching) and OC still thinking of adding some of the talk shows to this list as well

Football can sometimes be better over the radio with biased local announcers =) Plus I remember watching the entire 2'nd and 3'rd seasons of Six Feet Under on the computer when my friend downloaded them all so we'd be all caught up for when season 4 started. TV has become totally outdated.

chase_jyd
04/05/2005, 02:01
I'd much rather go without TV. All I watch is sports anyway, and I can at least get news and scores online.

Would rather not deal with either, but given an either/or, that's an easy choice.

04/05/2005, 02:02
TV I probably could do without...only watch the Sheild, and JLU really....

Need the internet......paly COH!!!

We made this decision about a year ago. $40 cable connection for the internet or $40 cable for TV. And since I'm posting this right now I bet you can guess what we took...

Well, we still get the 5 basic channels for $10, so I guess we're still not completely without.

I can live without TV, I earn money with the Internet.

No TV in our house for 2 1/2 years. Take classes online, do banking online, do mailing online, make money online, buy gifts and shop online. TV is far and away THE biggest waste of time. The money spent on cable is of course paying for my DSL.

haven't owned a working TV in months... Don't plan to. I have Netflix if a TV series is highly recomended & beyond that all my favorite TV has been cancelled (Farscape, Angel, Big O, MacGuyver ;) )

I used to watch quite a lot of TV but the quality seems to have gone down as the number of channels has gone up Currently my watch list is meagre:

The Sky at Night
Dr Who
Scrubs
Stargate (but not Atlantis)
Sopranos
Deadwood

The big loss is the shows from Mutant Enemy - Buffy, Angel and Firefly.

Hmmm I do watch a lot of DVDs but no cable.

if i could only have one it would be the internet. then i could spend the cable bill money on dvds, or sign up for netflix. Without the internet i couldnt get my hcrealms fix (i need a place to get my rules questions answered).

I watch very little TV as it is...the only shows I like are:

Rick Mercer's Monday Report (CBC in Canada)
LOST (only watch if its an episode about Hurley or Locke)
Simpsons
Corner Gas (CTV in Canada)
House (usually listen to it while I surf, my wife watches it)

All told, I think I watch less than 5 hours of tv per week...while I'm on the internet at least 15+ hours per week.....;)

I would go without TV. The Internet is both fun and useful, and TV can be pretty mind-numbing. Although I would miss Smallville and Justice League, but with the Internet you can just download them ;)

JayThor
04/06/2005, 19:52
Wow. The vote is very suprising.

I am not a big net surfer. Actually, this site and the main WK site are the two I visit most, so I don't think I'd miss it much. Personally, I prefer TV, though I don't watch much from there either. Usually only 1-2 shows a day, and some days not that much (usually watch a video movie). TV is also a must during football season.

Business-wise is another story, but I voted from a personal stand-point.

Oh, I love TV. If it weren't for my career, TV would be first choice for sure.

Internet no doubt. THe only shows that I've got to see are Lost and Battlestar Galactica. Occassionally I like to see Justice League and Teen Titans, but I miss them more often than not.

TV tends to be anti-social, while Internet is social. Probably not as 'healthy' as talking to people in 'real life', but still a lot more social and less mind-numbing than television tends to be.

Interesting, I voted that I couldn't live without TV because internet is too anti-social. I get together with friends to watch some sporting event atleast once a week.

Ive been living without TV for nearly 2yrs aswell and ive spent time more productively and more socially. i dont miss shows that im interested in i either get a friend to record them, download them or wait till they r available on dvd and by a series with the money i would normally spend on a tv lisence. so now i can watch what i want when i want and without all those stupid adverts.

I can definitly live without TV. As with what a lot of people said I get my news, sports and other info from the web. I only like to watch movies and anime and if there is a good show it comes out on dvd so I can wait.

I have not had TV for five years now and I have not really missed it at all. The internet however I guess I could live without but I would not like too.

I went without a tv for many years (college). I actually didn't even own a tv other than a black and white 13" until I was 25. Then I started buying movies. Before we got married, my wife insisted upon cable. I'd miss Adult Swim and some certain stations (Cartoon Network, Sci-fi, G4/Tech TV) but I would say that having a viable internet is infinitely more useful and fun for me.

Nothing quite as entertaining as showing up to load-in a show and knowing how many people are working the show just by checking the IATSE website.

I can always download the shows that I do want to watch. For instance, I'm going to be missing this week's episode of the Apprentice. I plan on downloading it so that I can watch it.

Gotta go with dropping TV. We keep it old school by using the rabbit ears so all I get are the Networks pretty much.

Only show I would miss is Smallville and I can get those on DVD...

I need the internet so I can keep abreast of all the Hero Clix FAQ's!

I don't watch TV as it is-- I use my TV about once or twice a week, for videogames or DVDs.

I do, in fact, live without cable TV. I watch broadcast, if I watch at all. (Mostly PBS.)

I do not have an internet connection at home. I do all my surfing at work.

I save a lot of money, money which funds my HC addiction.

Ive actually been without cable for 11 years. My mom took it out way back when, because my father and I would leave every TV on in the house, so we could watch something wherever we went. When I moved out, I just decided not to get it, because it really didnt bother me not having it.....now if I didnt have my radio, Id be legally insane. I listen to the radio more than anything. Ive got 3 in my room, not counting my clock radio. Im a HUGE music buff.
