OK so the first two Batman movies were OK, and Batman begins looks like its gonna be pretty good, but for the love of god is it to much to ask for a Batman movie where Bats looks at least a little like Batman from the comics, instead of a walking pile of rubber? (i don't know maybe its just me, but the bat suits always look like space ghost, with the BIG fat neck) am i the only one who doesnt like the "Rubberman" look?

I've never really cared for it, personally. The general argument against it seems to be that Spandex just doesn't look as good in real life as it does in comics, but honestly, check out Adam West in the Spandex batsuit. He doesn't look half bad (I mean, he could be in better shape, generally), and they really weren't trying all that hard.
I think that with a little effort, they could make a non-rubber suit that looked very cool.

thats what I'm saying, if they got a dude who was in shape like Bruce Wayne is supposed to be, it wouldn't be bad (that and stop tweaking the Bat suit to modernize it or stylize it or whatever, HE DON'T NEED PINSTRIPES!)

It can, and has, been done.
Not sure if you've ever seen the little independant short film that's been circulated for the past few years, but it has Batman, Joker, Alien and Predator in it. The name actually escapes me right now.
IIRC, the suit was NOT a rubbery material but looked more cloth-like in nature. And it actually looked exceptional on the guy (who had a very good physique for Batman).

It's called Batman: Dead End.
That should help.
Yeah, for a 7 minute or so piece, I think it's pretty awesome. And the Joker is good too. Check out World's Finest and Grayson. Those two are really good too, especially Grayson. Cameos galore and the costumes look like they came right out of the book.

And Joker was played by Boner from Growing Pains.

If they have to go with the armor concept, I wish they'd go with the daredevil idea. Some kind of Leather outfit that gives the illusion that you COULD do a triple back flip followed by a leg sweep, in it. The rubber suit is an obvious joke. Batman Can't turn his head!!! The fight scenes are shot at such odd angles because the Actor cant' DO anything.
George Clooney is quoted as saying that if Batman actually wore a suit like that then a 5 year old could beat him up.
I'm a strong supporter of Spandex in movies. (Superman or Spiderman looked great). But if they have to go for "realism" :tired: then I hope they go with the DD concept. I would have prefered the spandex but I didn't Hate that look.

Well the design team did walk into the costumes department holding an action figure and said "make him look just like that".

Okay once again Superheroes wear TIGHTS, not Spandex.
Batman was created in 1939, there was no spandex then, and the key differences between Spandex, and Tights is as follows:
-Spandex is shiney and masks musculature somewhat.
-tights feel like a second skin and are comfortable.
the look that Sandy collera (batman Dead End, Worlds finest)gave to his take on Superman, and BAtman was perfect, and completely accurate.
And it didn't look like they were wearing spandex!
Tights can be anything thats tight theres all sorts of tight materials nowadays that look way better than straight up spandex, which i for one think looks just plain lame.....

man, that short, was better than ALL the Batman movies rolled up into one, great. after seeing this, i dont realy even want to see Batman Begins, and if its true about that action figure comment then that would explain it, Batso has had the worst action figures made of him, boy, im amazed that DC has given the ok on yet another stupid Rubberman movie, when im positive someone higher up, has seen this, wow, given a budget, they could make movie gold with the look and feel of this batman (and yeah the Joker rocked)
on a side note, who else thinks that Jim Carey would have made a better Mr. J than Jack?

You know Robin Williams was up for the joker till Jack took it from him. I thought Jack was a great joker, I mean he was no Ceasar Romero, but what are you gonna do!
Burdges Meridith was a waaaaaay better Penguin than danny Devito [wasn't Danny's fault] and Frank Gerswin and Jim carey are a tie for the Riddler.
I still would have liked to see Billy D. Williams play Two-Face.

i loved Jacko as the J man, Carey just realy looks the part, and can act like a nut case very well, he just seems like a natural Joker to me, i agree about the penguin to

Egads, it was a joke, son, don't ya get it? Action figure made totally out of plastic -> "make it look just like this" -> results in suit looking like plastic.
Probably never heard the one about the guy who never left the shower, because the shampoo bottle said "lather, rinse, repeat".

You ever see on In Living color when he jsut came out beforethe audience and did a bucn of goofy stuff, then helda newspapaer up to cover his face, and when he bought the paper down his face was grimaced liked the Joker?
I knew that boy had talent back then!

I would have thought they would have come up with a different costume to distance this movie from the rest.
Well, I expect it's a lot easier for a non comic reading film
goer to believe in an essentially 'normal' human being
wearing a suit that deflects bullets rather than one in a non
bullet proof suit, and just never getting hit.
Joe Kerr

Explain any modern kung fu flick then!
People don't see the stunts they pull as within the abilities
of a 'normal' human being.
And they aren't.
Most people would expect a guy with an Uzi to realistically
beat an unarmed, unarmoured guy fairly easily.
Take a look at the 'Why are there no real Superheroes' thread.
Now, I hope we see some of the athletic, and gymnastic
stunts and action that a comic reader would hope for, but I
have no objection to Bruce being smart enough to take some
precaution against dieing in a hail of bullets.

Well,
Here's my take on it. Getting the "perfect" Batman is near impossible in the first place. He'd need the physical form of Stallone in his prime, looks that put Brad Pitt, Colin Ferrell, and Christian Bale all to shame, and can play two characters, as Bruce/Batman is a dual role. But you either get a muscle head who can't act, or a good actor who isn't built like a god. Spiderman, easier to pull off, as Spidey was never "ripped," but Batman is drawn much like Superman is, and that's ripped.
So, Tim Burton got the actor to play the part, then worked around the physical limitations of Keaton's frame, and came up with the "armour" look. Since then, its stuck.
On a side note, do you really think tights would be the way to go? Think for a minute, and would we buy someone in tights and a very bulky cape (which, for all accounts, Batman's cape is unwieldly) "dodging" automatic gunfire?
And, as far as Gentleman Jack being great as the Joker....meh. Nicholson was entertaining, but I think Mark Hammill's portrayal as the voice of the Joker will stick with me as the "best" for the rest of my life. The rest of the villians, save Catwoman, were horrible. Carey played himself in the Riddler costume, don't get me started on how much they butchered the Penquin, Two-Face still gives me night terrors of "How can a great actor so totally be screwed by a bad script/director/concept" and wait, who was in the last Bat film? I like to forget.....

just for the record i do think that this Batmna movie is gonna rock arse.
Its just gonna have Batman looking not quite right.
THe problem as i see it is that Sin City was just made , and just showed the whole world how great comics are when adapted to a T.
Christian Bale is perfect, Goyers scrpipt sounds great, and Nowlan as a director is excellent.
Its a recipe for a great movie, but us purists will always have a problem with the innacuracies.
Wil SIN CITY change all that in the years to come?
I sure as hell think and hope so...

also for the record, the bat suit in batman begins does not have nipples (thank god). and am i the only one that thought the joker from batman:dead end really sucked?
No, I was actually rather unimpressed by the entire Batman: Dead End film.
The guy playing Batman had the build to fill out the costume, but couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag. The guy playing the Joker's career should have ended when Growing Pains did. And having the Aliens and Predators show up was just stupid.
...
"See? What were going to do is this ... Batman's going to be trying to track down the Joker, who's just escaped from Arkham and is still in his straightjacket."
"But, uh, if Joker's still in a straightjacket, shouldn't any superhero worth his cape be able to capture him without much trouble?"
"Let me finish. See, the Joker's going to run down this dark alley ..."
"Don't they always?"
"... and Batman's going to catch him. But, just as Batman's about to knock him cold, he's going to get ripped out of the scene and up the friggin' wall! It'll be so cool!"
"What? Who's going to pull him up a wall?"
"Aliens."
"Aliens?"
"Yeah, Aliens."
"Alright, so Batman's got to fight little green men, and ..."
"No, real Aliens. You know. The creepy things that Sigourney Weaver fought."
"Oh, sure. Because, they'd obviously be in Gotham. Waitasecond ... why are they in Gotham?"
"Because they're being chased by the Predator! Duh!"
"Oh, good. For a second there, I thought you weren't going to have a plausible explanation for it."
"And, so, we have this big throw-down, right? And the Aliens are beaten and then it's just Batman against the Predators ..."
"Where'd the Joker go?"
"Who cares? That was the first scene. No one ever remembers what happened in the first scene."
"Alright. So, Batman versus Predator now."
"No, Predators. I know a guy who runs a costume shop who can get me at least three of 'em cheap!"
"Okay. Whatever. How does Batman beat a bunch of Predators?"
"Hello? With the huge, razor-edged Bat-disc that he keeps tucked under his cape just in case he has to fight extra-terrestrial big-game hunters. Don't you read any comics?"
"Yeah, wow. Sounds like you've got it all figured out man. I'm sure Warner Brothers will jump at the chance to make this movie happen."
"Dude, who cares about Warner Bros. I'm going to be the Spielberg of the internet!"

hmmmm....batman, joker, aliens, preditor....Suprisingly, thats rather unsuprising. Hell I'm suprised DC hasnt already grabbed it up for a film.
And hell, it was 10 times better then any batman movie (except adam west...it was a differnt batman). And complaining about not being able to act in a batman movie is liek complaining about sand at the beach.
Need the world be reminded of tommy lee Jones as two Face or ARNOLD (I think this is a situation where all caps are excepted) as Mr. Freeze

Dead End wasn't a movie made to tell a story nor was it made to keep continuity. It was made simply as a way for the director to get his name out there amoung the Hollywood types, I'm not even sure if it was meant to be leaked publicly.
But one thing can be said, the costume in Dead End was out of this world awesome. I already have an ultra bad feeling about Batman begins. Fighting Ra's (with swords?) will look really funny with the rubber suit.

sounds like your bitter at the fact that you
A) cant make movies, or
B) cant stand a real life batman who doesn't have a huge unmovable rubber neck...
just playin' with ya', i thought the alien and predator thing was a little strange to, but i still liked this movie better than all the "real" Bat-movies that have been made, i just hate the idea of an immobile Batman, thats so out of character, i mean these guys cant even turn their head to the side when there in these big goofy costumes

I did like the costume. But, that was the only thing about the movie that I appreciated.
And, Batman's full suit in the movie doesn't appear until late in the film (if what I read was correct). But, there'll be a reason for his costuming decisions, and a lot of it will be tied to the training that he gets from Henri Ducard.

For what its worth, I've seen several stills from Batman Begins where Bale is in the costume and clearly turning his head. The neck rubber seems to be very flexible, and it looks completely natural.

Actually, I hate the rubber suits too, but I think the Begins costume will be a major improvement over the 80's-90's rubber suits. They seem to be putting more emphasis on Bruce Wayne, the martial artist in this one over Bruce Wayne, owner of many gadgets like we saw when Burton and Whatshisname were directing.
