View Full Version : The Ultimate JLA vs. The Ultimates...
OK. I've been duped into playing my bud this weekend.
It's 1,000 points. He's running the Ultimates. I'm running the Ultimate JLA. Here's who I'm fielding...
Superman (Limited Edition; Hypertime): 236 points
Batman (Promotional; Hypertime): 120 points
Wonder Woman (Veteran): 126 points
The Flash (Veteran): 98 points
Hal Jordan (Limited Edition): 178 points
Arthur Curry (Limited Edition): 51 points
Martian Manhunter (Unique): 177 points
TOTAL POINT VALUE: 986 points
Here's who I'm facing...
Captain America (Veteran; Ultimates): 103 points
Hulk (Unique; Ultimates): 182 points
Thor (Unique): 186 points
Iron Man (Unique): 144 points
Clint Barton (Limited Edition): 75 points
Black Widow (Veteran; Ultimates): 59 points
Giant Man (Experienced): 109 points
Wasp (Unique): 44 points
Nick Fury (Unique): 62 points
Clay Quartermain (Limited Edition): 22 points
TOTAL POINT VALUE: 986 points
It's a dead-even fight. No Feat Cards, BFCs, or Bystanders. We're gonna roll 1D6 before the game begins: 1-3 means we are inside, 4-6 means we are outside.
Do I gotta chance or not...?
Vetran flash is overpriced for a start, any superman except the KC version is also usually not worth his point value, the lagacy batman works far betther than that one your using, i'd personally be tempted to use the veteran hal jordan instead of the LE one and i'm not particularly struck on using the martian manhunter either, you will more than likely lose to this team due to the fact that the ultimates are gr8 for their cheap point values and he has more figures than you, i would personally use a team like this if you hope to stand a chance:
KC Supes 265 (if your gonna use a supes use the right one;) )
V Batman 111 (legacy)
V Wonder Woman 126
E Flash 82
V Green Lantern (Hal)
LE Arthur Curry 51
U Martian Manhunter 177
R Easy Company Medic 9
Total 986 points exactly
With no feat cards Batman and Flash's outwits can be put to good use to cripple his big guns, like thor, hopefully perplex supes damage up 1 and knock him onto his weakest dial, one good hit and ironman shouldn't be much of a threat anymore, and the same applies to giant man, try to avoid hitting hulk until he's at least pushed him so he's imobalised and then beat him with outwit and heavy hitters, and definately take advantage of you willpower, 3 members of your team have it so use it to inflict more pain, and keep you medic alive, thats your one main advantage over your opponent, once all of his big guns are dead or injured go to work on wasp and captain america, 19 defence really is a bugger to hit, especially when your injured, if you still have batman on full health at this point though he can make quick work of captain america, my rookie beat an experienced captain america once;) and definately land a good hit on clint barton, because he is exceptunally annoying, once supes gets onto his HSS dials though you should be pretty set for a win then, and that's all i can think of now, let me know how it goes:ermm:

I would be tempted to put a limit on the number of actions per turn - 4 maybe? If he agrees, I think this would be a GREAT fight.
I would love to know the particulars. PLEASE post after the battle!!
(And congratulations for playing the game so theme-based! Good for you folks!!)
Thanx, fenway.
I'll let you know what happens.
It's obvious goodman doesn't understand theme teams.
Again...I'll let you know.
I do have to agree on the idea of swapping out promo Batman for a Legacy Batman. While promo has that 13 attack, his mid and late dial isn't nearly as good (goodbye Leap/Climb, goodbye Willpower, hello Leadership? ).
I'd also take the vet GL over Hal. That 18 defense and the extra click of Running Shot plus the 11 attack trump the +1 damage Hal has.
I'd also consider taking the exp Flash, but only if I needed the points.
And why would I need the points? Because this JLA team is screaming out for Ray Palmer, The Atom! 20 defense, up front Perplex turning into later dial Outwit. And if you take the cheaper Bruce, Hal & Wally you can afford to throw him on the team ;)
I do think you do have a chance with your team as it stands, but I also think you'll have a better chance with the above suggestions.
Best idea yet. I'll try and see how it does...
Thanx.

Really there's no reason to play either the vet or LE version of Hal Jordan over the Exp JLA version. Chances are you'll be using Hal for his TK a fair amount, not just attacking, and the ultimates dont have that high of defense ratings as a whole. Downgrade Hal to the Exp, save 40 points and make the theme a little more pure.
My recommended adaptation:
LE OWAW Superman 236
Batman E Legacy: 94
V Wonder Woman 126
E Flash: 98 points
E Green Lantern 125
LE Arthur Curry 51
U Martian Manhunter 177
LE The Atom 50
E Plastic Man 43
Total 1000
So even, so wonderful...

JLA Superman isn't Superman.
Theres one way you can win rather easily ... exploiting his lack of TK! maybe if you use both Green Lanterns from CJ and Unleashed you could have an great edge in mobility.
I wouldnt use Flash at all ... instead, give The Atom and Green Arrow a shot. Twenty defense can give some of his lower AV figures a great headache (Iron Man!), and double target incapacitate can minimize his advantage on the number o figures.
You could try also V Nightwing, its a nice figure and already was part of the JLA (during the Obsidian Age). Avoid to use Martian Manhunter, his strong because of his Impervious coupled with stealth ... but against a figure like Captain America ... well ...
...
Giant Man and the two shield les are waste of points on his side ... pretty easy to take out ... just look out for the usual suspects: Thor, Iron Man, Clint barton and the Captain.

I thought this was Ultimates Vs JLA... or is it just the best of the two worlds getting it on? If so, Ultimates really are limited in the figure selection. Good pieces, but limited selction.

Being a JLA member doesn't mean you loose powers though. In the caseof Superman and Batman thier team abilities are powers they posses.
BTW: I wouldn't take Batman at all. Stealth is useless agaisnt the Ultimates.
OW@W Supes is a great piece in this enviorment. Teamed with Hal (or any GL) and you get that first strike in. Atom's perplex and Plas' (if you use one with front loaded perplex) give Supes a devestating attack against clix like Clint and Natasha.
V Hal is worth it. His defense and willpower make him very valuable. I wouldn't bring Martian Manhunter myself.
I agree with someone up there...bring 2 GL's (save points by dropping MM) and wreck house. :)
So, JGrim, you never let us know how it went! Well?
I've been outta the loop for a while.
SORRY GRINNER (LOL)...
Here's what happened...
Fury and Quartermain fell early in battle due to a combined attack by Wonder Woman and Arthur Curry.
Giant Man went down when Superman, Wonder Woman, Arthur Curry, and Martian Manhunter ganged up on him.
But then things went south REAL QUICK...
Basically, it came down to Thor and the Hulk on the Ultimates side and Superman, Flash, and Hal Jordan on the JLA side.
Die rolls really didn't go my way and Thor dropped the Big "S" while the Hulk tore the Flash a new one. Hal didn't stand a chance against Thor.
Sucks...Don't it?
BTW...Batman DID take out Captain America before getting shot to pieces by Clint Barton.
