Slow. Zombies. Rock.

I actually quite enjoyed the Dawn remake (it was a different film, and they probably should have called it something else, but a nice entry to the zombie canon nonetheless), but it doesn't get any better than the Godfatha of the Walking Dead..

Also, "City of the Dead" is coming out for PS2/Xbox next year... a Romero video game of survival zombie horror where you can play the zombies (for once!)

You could play as a zombie in Res Evil: Outbreak... but only for a few minutes.

Zombies rule.

The remake of Dawn of the Dead was very good, imho - even with fast zombies.

alright more "DEAD HEADS" i am looking forward to this movie, although I don't know if I agree with moving it up to compete with the summer movie madness.

I liked the Dawn remake, but I like slow zombies better because you don't expect them to be a threat. Then, when they're pinning you down and eating your brain, you're all like, "Crap! That's my brain he's eating! Not bad for a slow motheMMMMMmmmMMMmBRAINS."

So long as they did not compromise the quality by moving it up, I'm OK with it. The Dawn remake did very well in that slot last year.

The thing I like about slow zombies is the crushing inevitibility of it - eventually you will tire out and slow down, and they will eventually find you and eat you when you do.

What better way to cheer up and look past the grinding pessimism here on the boards than to talk about the Living Dead, eh BroMags? ;)

I can hear the low moans now, and the stink of carrion is in the air. Ahhh, it must be summer again!

I just saw "Shaun of the Dead" and was blown away. I had been putting it off, fearing a another overrated "28 Days Later" but funny.

You really can use the classic Romero living dead flicks as a backdrop anywhere in the world and for any individual's or group's situation. I hope to see another film pick up on this and use the standard Romero living dead scenario in such a classic manner as "Shaun."

The 1968 "Night of the Living Dead" really is my favorite zombie flick and, now, "Shaun" runs a close second. Replacing the ever-classic "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things."

Oh. My. God. I didn't realize anyone else in the world had seen that movie!

I am impressed!

And yes, Shaun was awesome. I just bought a copy of Undead on DVD from Australia, and if you liked Dead-Alive (or Braindead, depending on your neck of the world) you'll probably enjoy Undead as well. There's a couple of really classic zombie fight scenes.

Right back at you, sir! I thought the same.

But I guess we're out there, a stack of beat-up Video Watchdogs at our feet.

Luckily Seattle has one of the greatest video stores ever, Scarecrow (www.scarecrow.com). They had a copy of "Let's Scare Jessica to Death." Ever since I found that, I have made it my home away from home.

Shaun of the Dead was fantastic. My favorite zombie movie is still the original Dawn of the Dead - it really captured the feel of a world full of zombies better than any of the other movies Romero did (NotLD was too isolated, and Day of the Dead just wasn't very good). The remake of Dawn of the Dead was dissappointing only in that it failed to capture the satiric elements of the original. It took itself a little too seriously to really be considered a remake. On it's own merits its a great zombie flick.

I look forward to the Land of the Dead with some apprehension - it looks like it might be good, but if its bad, I think it's going to be spectacularly bad.

I saw the trailer like 5 minutes after they posted it... muuahhhh.. I can't wait for a new George (####ing) Romero zombie flick.

Oh yeah, Mags.. I have a copy of "Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things" (the only zombie movie lit entirely with a single 40 watt light bulb) on DVD. A friend and I were BS'ing last night about how noone has seen it, and how amazing it was that it got a DVD release.

Oh yeah, its getting remade too.

They'll remake anything these days..

My brother lives in Seattle and raves about Scarecrow.

Luckily, I live in Boulder, Colorado and have Video Station. If they don't have it (doubtful), they'll order it for you.

Having an alternative to Blockbuster is an imperative for my lifestyle!

Heh, I think they actually used candles in some scenes!

But of all the movies to remake: all I gotta ask is WHY?

The director wants it done.

By him.

Yes, the same guy responsible for the original is coming back to do it again. He thinks that the films sorta-kinda cult status gurantee's he'll get some major studio bucks to do it ah la 'Dawn of the Dead'.

The differance being the original 'Dawn was a great movie, and the remake had something new to offer.

I thin he intends to make it with or without the big studio bucks, so he might be adding a few more mortgages to his home or something to do it.

They say repeating the same task again and again in the same manner, expecting a differant result, is a sure sign of insanity.

It's so weird to hear the Marilyn Manson's Resident Evil soundtrack on the trailer for a romero zombie movie... (laser corridor scene for those who saw it)

Dang, I hope it's the only thing it borrows from the resident evil movies... If it also borrows Kung Fu, I'm gonna hang myself !

The director, if I remember correctly, was the "main character" who I kept hoping would be zombie chow.

That's just... wow. Yeah, crazy.

BTW when we getting some Zombie generics in HC?

dead_celebrity
04/28/2005, 17:52
Zombie generics would be great in an Indie set with more Hellboy. Id hope for zombie *Nationalist Socialists* myself. And while your at it some better vampire scrubs. Or maybe I should just get off my rear and glue on some of the awesome vampire sculpts from Mage Knight to the bases of the old ones.

Undead looks so good, but a copy of it has eluded me for the last 2 years..

Children' is, yeah, the director was the MASTER THESPIAN with the sentiant moustache who needed killed 5 minutes before he was on camera. He's at it again.. prepare the injections.

If your DVD player can convert PAL to NTSC and play Region 4 discs, you can import it from Australia for pretty cheap (for once an exchange rate that works in our favor). Like, less than the price of two movie tickets cheap.

Nope, it cannot. Which is why my uncut version of Return of the Living Dead I got in England is only seen on computer screens for now.

But I shall keep that in mind, as I am shopping for a new deck..

I cant wait.

There is an asian zombie movie called "BioZombie" thats AWESOME!! Its Dawn of the Dead meets Mall Rats!!

Truely AWESOME!! But Zombies are Awesome.

Remember to check the zombie warning system.

Ive seen BioZombie, its awesome. Its best when you watch it in Japenese with the "Engrish" subtitles (i.e. the exact translation). It goes from comedy gold to utterly priceless.

Its funny, the film Im working on right now (one of the two) the ending owes a little bit to BioZombie.. but to tell anymore would give way too much away. ;)

But at least you had that in Tulsa...

I have to suffer with "Startime" and my local Grocer's video selection. and those are baaaaaaaaaad.... I would love to be able to rent movies like "Dolls," "Tales From the Darkside: The Movie," and any "Puppet Master" movie without driving to Tahlequah or Tulsa...

I miss me some low budget "horror" movies....

George Romero, Asia Argento, Zombies!

To conclude.

May I humbly suggest the Momitsu v880 from www.hkflix.com - if you've got a tv that supports 1080i, it upconverts the signal through a DVI cable and looks stunning. Its the closest you'll get to HD-DVD before HD-DVD comes out. And its reasonably priced, as far as high-end DVD players go.

Here's a link:
