Well, the general opinion seems to be that if Scarecrow can take Batman, then Wildchild should be no problem.

I was playing Heroclix the other day, and building my team, I had 103 points left. I looked at my selection and realized that U HT Batman and R IC Hulk both cost the same. This got me thinking. Just because they are Heroclix equals doesn’t translate back translate back to comics. I think most of us would agree that Hulk could beat Batman in a fight.

That is the idea for this tournament. Every entry will be close to the same amount of points Heroclix wise, but this will be their comic forms fighting!

Rules:
This will be a standard single elimination tournament with 32 combatants. There will be 2 to a fight. They get no knowledge of each other (unless they have fought in the past). The only thing they get is the Heroclix figure of there enemies, and a PAC so they know what the opponent looks like and a bit about what they can do (this can be misleading however, like if they face Electro and think he will try to poison them). They will have 5 minutes to prepare. This is a fight to the death or KO, whichever happens first, and they must fight (no waiting for the opponent to die of starvation). They have with them what they normally carry and what there fig has if it is different. (Like how Bullseye doesn’t carry a gun, but he has one on the fig). If the fig that is being used is the rookie, you do NOT have to treat the fighter like that. (unless the characters powers change dramatically ie: Rouge)

When you vote, please try to justify your answer. You don’t have to write an essay, just a short explanation will do.

TASKMASTER
The man who would become the Taskmaster possesses "photographic reflexes," the ability to identically mimic any action, no matter how complex. David Cannon originally used his talent for professional gain, but became a criminal instead, which he perceived to be more lucrative. Observing the fighting techniques of superheroes, he committed several successful crimes, using the profits to establish a training school for aspiring criminals. His crime colleges have been smashed by the Avengers, Spider-Man and the Thing. Wearing a new costume, he has "retired" from teaching, opting to hang out with Deadpool instead.

HYENA
Two people have been known as the Hyena. The first is Summer Day, a peace corps member who was bitten by a were-Hyena while in Africa. Returning to the US, she turned into a were-hyena herself and went on a rampage until she was stopped by Firestorm. During subsequent transformations, she teamed up with other Firestorm foes like Multiplex, Bolt and Mindboggler. Summer was eventually captured and sent to a clinic for treatment. As Hyena, Summer has enhanced strength and agility, razor sharp claws and fangs and superb senses.

Well, assuming they don't start on the same rig, and neither of them fly of swim. This could be a battle of wills. Who will jump in the water to surch out the other. My money is on Hyena. Taskmaster would probably find a way to lure her to him. Once they start fighting, I give it to the man over the beast. Hyena is just an animal, and Taskmaster will outsmart her. My vote...
TASKMASTER

Come on now! I though that taskmaster was a popular character. I was sure this one would bring out the voters.

Sigh...taskmaster to win. I can't envision mini-Deathstroke losing to claws and fangs.

Taskmaster.

But since this is a boring, one-sided fight, here's something interesting about Hyena, one of the least-interesting characters in the DCU.

When the Hyena first appeared, it seemed that the writer had something very different in mind for the character. One, the character was more of a scourge-of-the-underworld type than feral beast, and a reference was made to vibrating diamond claws (presumably technology in gloves, implying the whole get-up was a costume). The identity of the Hyena was also a mystery. Unfortunately, Firestorm was cancelled just as the Hyena sub-plot got started, so it wasn't revisted for a long time.

When the Firestorm comic was revived, the whole were-Hyena thing was established which was completely different in tone and contradicted the vibrating-claws thing. And, unfortunately, it was a really lame concept compared to the bit of mystery that was built up before that. While Hyena was probably always going to be Summer (I think she's intro-ed in the same issue as the Hyena's first appearance), it's clear that there was some other concept for the character that was probably much more interesting. We may never know-- and instead we have one of the lamest villains (and Clix) there is.
