This one is for all the marbles...

Sweet! I was thge first respondent in the poll!!! I liked Marvel Fantastic Forces in this poll. DC will be good but we get more Giant characters and the transporters too in Marvel!

DC Icons will blow Marvel FF out of the water, and will redeem some of the more unplayable Hypertime clix, like REV Supes. Just you wait and see!

Can't say that I can vote.
FF hasn't offered up too many things to get excited about yet ( though Namor is a welcomed sight),
Icons, hasn't shown us enough "new" stuff yet. Of course, Superman and R. Grayson are a welcomed sight there.

tough choice really,
Gotta go with Icons for the new superman sculpt, and D. Grayson. Batman we have enough of and finally a playable one.
Love new Ghost Rider though. :)
Unfortunately all this poll will show is who has more fans on HCRealms: Marvel Zombies or DC Fanboys. :-/
But maybe a few enlightened people will vote with their minds, not their hearts. ;)
Not me though hehe, I'm a zombie all the way!

What?!? No pudding?!?

Great. A little poll to show how "polarized" the Realms are; basically a "Marvel vs. DC" poll.
So, which side is Red and which side is Blue?
Ugh.

In my defense I have no bias towards nor against either company. I enjoy both equally. I just believe this round goes to Marvel due to the reasons I listed in my original post.

I, too, enjoy both. (Although I'm 55% Marvel Zombie, 44% DC Drone, 1% "looking for other interesting stuff" (like Hellboy).)
I just believe this round goes to Marvel due to the reasons I listed in my original post.
Marvel is slipping in the poll, though, despite your well-reasoned points. If the DC Drones win, they will most likely declare a mandate, and reduce the release of Marvel sets to one every two years, and up DC release to three per year, plus special map-pack and mail-aways.
(I'm kidding, btw.)

This vote should be very easy, if you want NEW vote Fantastic Forces.
If you were happy with "Universe" vote Icons, new sculps are nice but not too much will be added to the game here. A vote for Fantastic Forces here, and hopfully a new D.C. set in the near future.

Now don't jump all over me but I still don't think that Marvel has the caliber of dials that DC does. Therefore it was DC that got my vote, I just hope they don't make me look like an idiot (I don't need any help with that :p )

Well, so far I have to go with Icons. I really like the way the figs are looking so far. I'm still not too thrilled about getting only 3 figs in each Fantastic Force booster yet either. I am looking forward to trying out the transport mechanic though, but that's it.

I love what's going with Icons, new, hopefully playable, Superman; new Batman, perhaps a non-wild Joker (hey, I love rainbow flavored Joker, but I like poison, mastermind, and outwit/perplex with late dial increase to big damage-if they can fix Hypertime Joker to be better . . .)
The only problem is that it's only 60 so characters. Now, unless that is characters as in REV sets, then this will be a small set. There won't be enough figures to satisfy me.
Fantastic Forces will feature characters that I've been waiting for a long time-Green Goblin (you're going to have to have a really good Darkseid, an extremely playable Superman, and no power creep to best just him), Spider-man 2099, more Defenders, etc. It's also looking like a lack of X-themed characters.
Of course, it all depends who gets the better feats, bfc's, and pogs. So far, Fantastic Forces is in the lead.

I don't mind repeats (Elektra, Hulk and Wolverine being exceptions) so the Icons set sounds great. However we've got some hypocrits on this site who love all DC and hate all Marvel who have complained about FF having too many repeats on one thread and then run over to cheer for another Robin, Batman or Superman on another thread. So part of my vote for FF is to thumb my nose at these types. But mostly I'm voting for FF because 3 of my long desired figs are in it: Spiderman 2099, 616 Green Goblin and Namor. Not to mention the totally sweet Juggernaut fig.
That said I am totally stoked for Icons which is set to have many of my favorites since I mostly know the cartoons and movies. Having not been a huge fan of much of Legacy I think Icons will be the first DC set I buy as much of as I do Marvel sets.

05/17/2005, 10:45
I voted Icons purely because of the three vs. four figures in a pack. Call that a bad reason if you want, it's just the fact that you only get three figures in a booster for FF is really off-putting for me.
I voted for DC:Icons even though I'm a Marvel zombie. Definitely need a replacement for some of those Hypertime loser dials without them being "alternate universe" versions. Ugh, enough of those already.
I've never made a secret of my preference for DC clix over Marvel (in that I don't even own any Marvel clix), but if Fantastic Forces were a DC set, I'd still vote for Icons. An excellent new base set for the universe, with new dials and sculpts so that new players and old players alike will have reason to buy it, and even including some new characters (Blackfire) so that the set really stands on its own rather than being perceived as just a reprint of Hypertime. I don't care much for giant or double-based figures, and the transporter rules seem awkward and unnecessary. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the expansion which retires Cosmic Justice won't be one of the three-figures-to-a-booster variety.

That's not possible, is it? I mean you have to be one or the other, it goes against the rules of human logic for you not to have a favorite.
I mean, you chose FF so you must be a zombie who's afraid to come out of the closet.
And that describes the thinking around here. :tired:
I Am The Game
05/17/2005, 12:54
I'm a huge fan of classic Marvel (pre-90's) and I usually side that way clixwise, but it's all in the presentation. If you'd said Marvel FF with Namor and maybe the Inhumans, sold. If you're featuring the Ultimate FF as my reason for wanting the Marvel set, there's no way I'll agree to that! Let's hear it for a new Superman!
If this poll polarizes the realms, it's between new Marvel junk and everyone else. I'm happy we have it, now I know who to put on my ignore list! :p

Can I ask a question? I apologize, I'm a DC Fanboy instead of a Marvel Zombie, so I don't get this reference. What does 616 mean in front of characters' names?
Gotta go with Marvel! They finally made a Thunderbolt (Atlas) who is actually close to his comic book conterpart!
Also love the other giant/double based figs we've seen so far!

When it comes to comics, I'm more of a marvel fan (though the current stuff really doesn't turn me on other than the Ultimate Universe).
However, when it comes to clix, I like and use both equally.
With that said, I gotta go with FF. I like all the new stuff coming out with it.

@ Prophet: "616" refers to the "Regular" Marvel continuity. Not Ultimates, but "616". It's the number that the Watchers gave this particular dimesion, the one that Utau watches.

Back on topic. I'm a HUGE Fantastic Four fan, so Fantastic Forces gets my vote. I wasn't thrilled with Universe because they were all reprints. I'm not thrilled with Icons for the same reason. Personally, I'm a lot less sick of repeated Spier-Mans than I am of Batmans. I can't stand all of them. Superman I'm sick of because I hate Superman.
Fantastic Forces has also shown us a lot more. They've given us LE's, BFC's, Feats, REVs, and Uniques. Icons has given us eight pictures with no stats. That's like comparing Legacy (which, save for a few key figures, I was not at all impressed with) to Fantastic Forces right after they made the FF press release.
Anything with a playable, nicely-sculpted Mr. Fantastic automatically gets my vote. Anything where I have the possibility of pulling a Superman automatically loses it.
Marvel uses the term '616' to designate their normal Universe.
I voted Icons because this set will have more Characters
that play a large part in DC's Universe.
A Great Set for Newbies to jump in with.
(though a cool Black Bolt will help out Fantastic Forces a bit)
I'm a DC fan, and look forward to a good Superman dial,
a more powerful Aquaman,
a 100 point Deathstroke with 12 Attack, 18 Defense, 3 Clicks Regen, Blades mid-dial,
and a cheap Terra with front-dial TK and Titans Team,
and a Titans Nightwing with Stealth and Outwit.
But why did Superman's face have to be so ugly?
Usually DC has much better quality control.
I voted for Marvel based on the new content, variety of figs.
There's little difference to choose from, both have a healthy serving of reprinted characters. Of course, this is just stipulation at this point. DC might have 1/2 of their set as new.
Either way, I'm buying a box of both.

I really wanted to go with DC but I couldn't for two main reasons.
1. Not enough figures. The set is just going to be too limited overall although the idea of being able to get the entire set from one case is very appealing.
2. Not enough new stuff. Love it or hate it, Fantastic Forces is going to have some stuff that will really change every aspect of the game. Transporter ability, alternate Team Abilities, and a large influx of giant/double size figs. Draft and booster tourneys are going to become REAL interesting since more than likely you're going to have to deal with a giant fig on your team in some way.
But with that said, I LOVE what they're doing with Icons. If they only made it a bigger set I'd probably go with that one. I actually wish that the "base" sets were bigger like with Infinity Challenge. With so few REVs (only 14) and only half the regular number of Uniques plus the fact that some of those are going to be taken up by new figs, a lot of good figs that should also be remade won't make the cut. Hopefully they get put in later sets. I tried to come up with a similar set for Marvel (Which I called Marvel Legends) and I just couldn't fit in all the figs I wanted to. You end up having to drop lesser characters that are still important that deserve remakes (for me, characters like Kingpin, Ultron, and Vulture). When you stick in the characters that you KNOW are going to be in the set (Spider-Man, Hulk, Wolverine, most likely Captain America and Daredevil) you're hardly left any space for the other characters that probably need remakes more than they do. Plus I see that a set like this will probably be notoriously heavy on heroes.
To me, it seems like a base set would have more figs and expansions would have a smaller number since it's an "add-on" to the base set. Like when it initially started with IC having 120+ figs. Enough room for the big heroes and their archenemies plus a few lesser characters on both sides. This way we only really have room for the big heroes, their archenemies, and maybe a few extra good guy REVs.

I definitely voted with my mind and not my heart-DC Icons. I will forever support Marvel as my first and foremost love, but I do appreciate DC now. DC has more buzz right now with their comics, and although FF has the new figs and rules, I think most people are hyped for Icons because it will NOT be like Universe. New sculpts and dials of the DC characters we love-Brilliant!
Icons will have characters that have already been done. Some of them needed redos, I agree, but why we are having four versions of Batman? And why another Joker?
...
I voted for F4 because I was hoping that we would get a playable F4 ... instead, we got a playable Lockjaw ... but I still have hope!

I really cannot wait to see a more play friendly version of Superman... I hate using uber cheese pieces like KC, but most of the other ones are just fecal in there powers or damage.
I, too, enjoy both. (Although I'm 55% Marvel Zombie, 44% DC Drone, 1% "looking for other interesting stuff" (like Hellboy).)

(I'm kidding, btw.)
DC fans are not "drones"
The term Marvel Zombie comes from Marvel fan tendencies to buy issues long after they stopped reading them (I have spoken to several comic store owners and they back my findings)
DC fans tend to flit from book to book. If a book is no longer as good as it once was, we are out of there
I once collected majority Marvel and got tired of the highs and lows and the necessity to buy all of it because the soap opera like nature of Marvel
Contrary to Marvel propaganda, DC DOES have continuing stories but never to the extent that Marvel does
I once collected Superman, for alomost 10 years, then they did the Superman Blue (and it did!) and I dropped it. Period. Although I still like Superman (he is my second favourite DC character, after Martian Manhunter. And his solo series was so lame I did not even collect it) I don't buy the comics. They are not doing him the way I would like him done. A Marvel fan would acquiesce the House of Ideas superior (to their own) wisdom and keep collecting
That all said and done, DC is the elder company, so we are the red

Eh ... I grew up around Marvel and DC (in the 80's) and always liked Marvel better (except All Star Squadron baby !) ... Now my pull list is 50/50. As for these sets, I go with ICONS only because it irks me that the playable Reed Richards is the one with 12 issues of continuity - and somehow his long history of evolution and battle deserves a REV. It's Dumb. But I know it isn't WizKids doing, it's Marvel trying to pump the movie which will inevitably #### ... however Marvel also got it's hands into:
* A Brian Micheal Bendis era Yellowjacket instead of a Classic Giant Man
* A mexican wrestler Atlas instead of an Under Siege era Goliath
Other things I've seen that I don't like about FF:
* A Thing virtually identical to the one I already paid for, with a worse sculpt
* A Moonstar who is more points then any version of Cyclops we have
It may be a case of having more information about one then the other ... so I am imagining great dials for ICONS. But how can you go wrong with a Lex Luthor Power Armor :) Watch out boyscout !!!!
I wasn't thrilled with Universe because they were all reprints.
I'm not thrilled with Icons for the same reason.
{ But we have heard that Icons will have most (if not all) new Scuplts,
and most (if not all) new Dials on all re-dos. }
Superman I'm sick of because I hate Superman.
{ Just because you hate Sups for some personal reason,
does that mean you will always lean towards voting for DC Sets? }
That's like comparing Legacy
(which, save for a few key figures, I was not at all impressed with)
{ Legacy has Armor Piercing, Fortitude, In Contact With Oracle, Stunning Blow,
Bright Lights, Deep Shadows, Overconfidence, Poor Teamwork, Radiation Leak,
REV Batman,
EV Blockbuster,
V Capt Atom,
U Flash,
U Green Lantern,
U Hawkman,
Impulse/Kid Flash,
REV Jinx,
E Kid Quantam,
REV Major Force,
REV Persuader,
V Power Girl,
U Prometheus,
U Red Robin,
REV Sinestro,
V Spoiler,
V Stargirl,
U Steel,
REV Superwoman,
REV Talia,
REV The Demon,
REV Wildfire }
{ I'm pretty sure all the above Pieces from Legacy are Good or Great }
Anything with a playable, nicely-sculpted Mr. Fantastic automatically gets my vote. Anything where I have the possibility of pulling a Superman automatically loses it.
{ Like I said, a personal favorite or most-hated shouldn't be enough to decide }
I guess I have to type something down here.

I personally think that Icons will produce more figs that i will use. Marvel will undoubtedly bring us many "Zombie" favorites and DC will get the Fanboys drooling.

DC fans are not "drones"
I'm just needling you. I first encountered the term "DC Drone" here on the Realms. I thought it was funny, and latched on to it. No offense is meant, at least on my part. I've never been offended by "Zombie"; "Drone" doesn't seem too bad. And we're ALL "fanboys" regardless.
The term Marvel Zombie comes from Marvel fan tendencies to buy issues long after they stopped reading them (I have spoken to several comic store owners and they back my findings)
When did the term crop up? 1960's I thought. Is that what it has always meant? Seems inaccurate. (But, I buy single issues once in a blue moon anymore. TPBs for me.)
DC fans tend to flit from book to book. If a book is no longer as good as it once was, we are out of there
I once collected majority Marvel and got tired of the highs and lows and the necessity to buy all of it because the soap opera like nature of Marvel
"Flit from book to book," eh? Like a Bumblebee DRONE, perhaps? (Again, I'm needling you. it's all in fun.)
Contrary to Marvel propaganda, DC DOES have continuing stories but never to the extent that Marvel does
I've been disappointed in Marvel's balls-y "hardline" language, lately. But, everyone on the creative side knows each other, and any professional rivalry is creatively stimulating.
Personally, I think the quality of stories for both companies has been steadily rising. When it was largely Stan Lee calling the shots (determining direction, using continuity effectively for characterization, etc.), with major talent backing him up (King Kirby and Ditko, supported by all the rest) it helped change the industry.
The same is happening now. DiDio and Johns are doing great things at DC. Bendis and Millar are pushing the envelope. (But, as a Marvel Zombie, I still feel the publishing "formula" of shoveling as many titles out the door and seeing what sticks is resulting in some titles that are just of low quality and dragging down the good stuff with it. That's why I got out of the monthly "single issue chase." Paying good money on crappy "satellite" titles. Now I track the buzz on the good stuff, and scoop up the TPBs when they hit the shelves.)
You seem to have a very inflexible, almost hard-line view of Marvel fans. We ALL want better stories. We ALL complain to high heaven when something sucks.
That all said and done, DC is the elder company, so we are the red.
What, you think I'm "blue"? Phah! I'm gray, and proud. My dad's republican, my mom's a Democrat. They both have the annoying tendancy to seek solutions starting from rigid idealism. I prefer to see a problem dispassionately picked apart and analyzed, solutions evaluated, then ethically and morally evaluated (and long-term effects projected), then a workable solution implemented, utilizing sound engineering and supported properly from the outset.
I love what Johns, Rucka, Bendis, Millar, Meltzer, Vaughn, and the rest are doing. And, in the spirit of compromise, I was ecstatic that Brubaker "crossed party lines" to work on Captain America, even though it meant he left Gotham Central (a very "street-level" Marvel-like satellite book of the Batman line of titles, and a #### good read).
Anyway, just my opinions.

This poll is a mistake, it's putting people on agaist each other, when we should only be doing that when playing.
I don't care what set is best, the NEXT set should always be best or why bother.
Fantastic Forces will be better then Icons because Wiz Kids wanted it that way.
Legacy is one of the best sets, but it was #### for sealed play.
Mutant Mayhem was great for sealed, but only a so so set overall.
Fantastic Forces hopfully will find a balance between the two, it is adding NEW figs, and new ways to play, and for the games sake I hope it works.
I am looking forword to Icons, but at only 60 figs, few new, I don't expect a lot from Wiz Kids on this one, other then a fast buck in their pocket.
The set we can't see, the one that's after Icon's, should be the BEST set,,,,,and the one after that....and the one after that.......and the one after that.
No matter if it's Marvel or D.C. or even Indy. Make it better or don't make it.
I went with DC Icons. And that's coming from a psuedo-Marvel Zombie.

Just to toss this out there for arguement:
Each set has its "reprints" of characters from previous sets. It's going to happen with each set.
Every Marvel set will have some form of Spidey, or Wolvie, or the Hulk.
For DC, Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman variants will bring home the bacon.
DC Icons will be a new base set. A few brand new characters that we have't seen in clix form will be there, sure.
But in two years, we'll get another base set for DC. I'm willing to bet, 80 - 90% of the roster will be the same. (Assuming they don't pare down the number of characters again.)
Again, I'm just tossing that out there.

With retirement who do you think wizkids is going first Nth Man or a new version of Iceman I mean come on. We all gotta make money right? The best wizkids can do is listen to us (Juggernaut) and work to make our favorite figures better but in a finite universe.
And am I the only one who thinks the question was a little biased in the first place. Which set do you think is going to do better DC ICONS with a new superman and Batman. Or Mavel fantastic forces with transporter and the Fantasic four.

HT went out of it's way to cram a LOT of the "main characters" into it. Since then they have nearly ALL become obsolete. I only want reprints in one of three cases.
1) the stats are unusable. Superman can't break a wall? U batgirl with a 9 AV?
2) The sculpt improves. Personally my favorite repeats are CT Logan, Crouching DD and CM Spiderman. If the sculpt is cool than it's acceptable.
3) if the only cool one we have is some alternate universe thing. Sure KC Superman and Ultimate Captain America are the perfect version of these characters. but like #2 I don't want to play KC or Ultimate. I want the "Real" Superman or Cap!
However once these are done I don't ever need another repeat. We get Legacy stats on a real batman Sculpt then I never need another batman again :)
I like Legacy Joker and have no use for Icon's version.
Along these lines I will take a set full of cool well done repeats over a set of 2nd and third string new characters (and I do know AND like most of them in FF, I just want a #### grayson robin and real Superman more.)
but that's my reasoning:)
Also a new map and PAC will be nice.
Doesn't the Wednesday preview usually get a Front Page news item?
Iron Fist went up, but there was no official HCRealms report of it.
Or did I just miss it?
I've seen no preview reports since the Icons starter and Booster last week.

Icons is 62 figures.
62 minus the 2 Batmans a lot of us already have( promo from "free comic book day" and Dark Knight Detective from the "lets force them to subscribe to our magizine promo" down to 60. (free comic book day is the new rookie so we won't count it.....back up to 61.....if were lucky.....DKD, won't count...so, 62 again.
62 minus 6 "get these cheapo clix with the new starter you don't need promo" ...."including 3 all new that can't be found anywhere else!!" There! hah! says clever Wiz Kids promo department, NOW they need it" "oh, and toss in 3 the already have, saves us the trouble of being original".....down to 56...hope the maps cool.....56 minus 8 "ultra rares".....48.....thats only 16 R/E/V's.......man those sealed box games will just be the best ever with all of running the teams......or not

I read both DC and Marvel and play with both very equally in clix. But I am really a Marvel Zombie, a big fan of marvel, but lately DC has quietly narrowed the gap. So I voted for ICONS basically just on what i have seen so far. I love the new cards in FF,but I like the characters in ICONS better from what I've seen. FF ,so far, to me has Iron Fist, Ghost Rider, and Juggy is all I want, but its still early.

Normally I like mine Marvel. But Legacy really opened my eyes to the goodness that is DC. FF, so far, gives us the stats reminiscent of Hypertime and a dog that allows people to climb on his back as he moves around - BORING!!!! I'll take a playable superman over that any day of the week.

Had to go FF here, although after Legacy,(IMHO the first DC set really worth the points), I remain hopeful for Icons.
Still waiting for my Lobo, but FF gives me my Old School Ghost Rider. If they put Lobo in Icons, I will officially alter my vote. I don't need another Superman, or Batman, but an Upgrade for Darkseid would be nice; as well as a functional Doomsday:devious:
 The junkie needs his fix
But on the polarization subject, it's not about Marvel, it ain't about DC:
Are you a Hero fan, or a Villain fan?
:cheeky: That should be the question. :p

Although I like the Marvel Characters better, and am excited about Namor (I hate Namor, but be deserves a good click for all his history), I have to give it to Icons because I want a good, regular Superman (the original is awful), The #### Grayson, and I'm always up for a Batman.

I could never understand the close-mindedness of Marvel Zombies and DC Fan-boys. To so totally latch oneself onto the teat of only one comic book publisher is so limiting. There are good titles and good characters at both companies. I enjoy many stories from all the comics publishing world.

Well I'm a Marvelite through and through and I voted for Icons (although thanks to Bendis, I'm reading a lot more DC thesedays). There's a lot of reasons....
1) Marvel sets always seems to have some kind of major mess ups. FF has already annoyed me with the REV 'Giant-size' Yellowjacket, the boring Ultimate Scarlet Witch instead of a cool 616 one, and the inclusion of Ultimate Doom (the reason I stopped reading UF4).
2) Less figures in the set is actually a good thing for me right now, since I'm quite poor and need to save money.
3) New maps and streamlined rules will be excellent.
4) All the new stuff is just getting over the top IMO. I'm still getting used to BFCs and Feats and FF is giving us Transporters as well. Meh.
On the flip side, I'm stoked about more Thunderbolts, Namor (although he's not exactly how I wanted him), Lockjaw, and Power Man and Iron Fist!! So I'll be getting plenty of FForces. But hopefully I'll be able to trade away all those awful Yellowjackets! :p

A twelve attack on a Hypertime character?? Where??? Krypto will always have more personality than Superman...oh, you meant Lockjaw...well he's no superhorse that's for sure! :cheeky:

if the vote keeps going this way, next we'll get half of cosmic justice with a few new sculps, instead of a true new set.
This vote should not be Marvel vs. DC, it should be about what will improve the game most.
voting was a bad idea to begin with, we should all hope every set is better than the last one.
A twelve attack on a Hypertime character?? Where???
Well, REV Hawk for one.

Go DC! Bah 3 packs.
I voted for Fantastic Forces... but not because of Ultimate Fantastic Four. The Ultimates line of comics sucks rocks. I voted for Fantastic Forces because of giant & mounted figures. I was championing the idea since hypertime. I love variety of units. this brings clix up to the level of Mage Knight at last. Now if they had only not dropped the ball on the cards....

I just got home from the first day of WWE, it rocked, everyone who played got an LE for every round they played (I was given Hyppolyta Trever Hall when I walked in) Diana Lance, Betsy Braddock, Ben Grimm and Rupert, other people received many other Le's, no one left empty handed and there were many other door prizes...They had a FULL SET of Fantastic Forces on display, and some of use played a Draft of the new set, it played great, NO PICTURE has done the figures any justice, they are the best looking yet and the new transporter system will only make the game play better. Those of you who fear/hate this set from what you have seen so far, have nothing to worry about and only good things to look foward to.
I voted for DC Icons and am looking forward to it more.
I still haven't gotten over my irritation at FF having only 3 figs per booster; it's a crappy move on WK's part, and, as it is, I find myself very much not looking forward to pulling multiples of figs like Lockjaw, or Awesome Andy (who the heck is Awesome Andy???) or Mirage or Yellowjacket. They're figures I wouldn't mind getting one of, but, considering that they're R/E/V's in a 3 figures per booster set-up, I'm most likely going to be swimming in the blasted things.
A similar dissapointment has to do with figures like Scarlet Witch and the previously mentioned Yellowjacket. They're doing 1 figure less per booster, and they couldn't be bothered to get the proper costumes for at least one version of the figures? Yes, I know that Scarlet Witch actually wore that costume for a short, short time in the Ultimate X-Men comics, but the fact is with only 3 figs per booster it should have been easy enough and affordable to give her veteran dial the costume she wears as part of the Ultimates. A costume that a number of fans besides myself wanted. And Yellowjacket? He's a disturbed wife-beater who's schtick in the comics is generally to shrink down in size, and they give HIM an R/E/V slot as a giant figure without at least producing an accurate traditional Marvel Giant Man sculpt for just one of those 3 slots; I'd MUCH rather pull a single traditional Giant Man out of one of my boosters rather than an R/E/V of Yellowjacket. The whole reason I collect and play Heroclix is to play a comic book inspired miniatures game using minis accurate to the comics characters I like, and if they're not accurate then what's the point in my using them?
Finally, I'm not happy with the transporters game mechanic. While I think the sculpts for Johnny Blaze's Ghost Rider as well as Hawkeye and Black Knight on their sky sleds/atomic steeds look very, very cool, I'd much rather have seen them be fitted onto normal HC dials. We've been getting new rules, game mechanics, and FAQ entries all year long, and it's getting harder and harder to keep track of it all in a game. Giants and feat cards have been cool, but they provide enough of an FAQ mess all on their own, and now we're adding transporters to the mix? Not to mention the confusion and numbers crunching that the new Thunderbolts feat card is going to give us...
On a positive though I am really, really happy with a number of the other figures they're releasing in the Fantastic Forces set, like more Thunderbolts (YES, Jolt and Atlas!), Juggernaut, more Fantastic Four, a new Doctor Strange, Power Man & Iron Fist, Avengers like Tigra & Black Knight & a new Hawkeye, Shocker, Sub-Mariner, more New Mutants, and ESPECIALLY Spider-Man 2099.
The thing is, I'm just as excited for the new characters as well as all the remakes that are going to be in ICONS, but I'm not going to have to buy 3-figure boosters with ICONS where I'm stuck wading through booster after booster filled with R/E/V Lockjaws, Yellowjackets, robots named Andy, My Little Ponies with wings ridden by New Mutants, Ultimate Scarlet Witches in the wrong costume, and a new unneccesary game mechanic. I'll still buy a case of Fantastic Forces, but I'm more hyped for ICONS.

From what a Wizkids Rep told us at WWE, more Transporters/big figs/3 packs, planned for future DC, and the transporters worked just fine. play first, see if you like it, then write Wizkids with what you like and dislike about the product.
The only way they will listen is to be told, we are not doing that here.

There won't be.the picture looks even more like Wally then HT (the way his arms were and the "quality" of the sculpting I always thought that belt/sculpt could have gone either way). The first thing I'm doing is modding him into a barry sculpt.
Of course WK could have just seriously screwed up. If they MEAN to give us barry then He'll have phasing, If they mean wally they won't. Other than that, there really isn't any way to tell. EW, Outwit, ES/D super high HSS, SS any of these the arguement could be made for either B or W. Phasing is just Barry.
The professor Zoom is going to be the original one though I bet. Only real difference between Reverse Flash, and ZOOM, is that the new guy has the flash symbol reversed too. If it's a sticker like FCBD Batman and Superboy have they may make Zoom, If it's sculpted on and they just do a repaint, it'll be Thawne.

This was like a no brainer.
Of course Icons will be the better set.
I was at WWE and seen the FF set.Nothing really caught my eye.But in it defense the Spiderman 2099 sculpt looks awesome. And Nimrod looks like a giant piece of candy.
But Icons looks great. With what has been shown so far the action poses are great. The Batman on the gargoyle that is so kewl to look at.
I will get FF no doubt , but as for tournaments I play in I will always use DC over Marvel. In fact I can't even think of a tournament I went to where I used and Mutant Mayhem pieces at all.
Oh well..can't wait till Icons.
And can't wait to see Batman Begins...just a few hours to go till I see that movie.

about Fantastic Forces, although Cain Marko whups incredible @$$,
am i the only one incredibly irate over the fact that there are

the shortage of pieces??
Bravo wizkids. blind people with a 'free' galactus and they all forget
all the money you're powning us for.
BTW Bring back Super Rares!!!!!! as different pieces at least.
LE Giant Figures.... mmm tasty
I vote Icons.
I hated Universe: A whole set of reprints. Didn't even buy 1 booster. Don't own even 1 fig from Universe. And yet, I vote Icons. Why is that?
First off, Icons is DEFINITELY not a Universe. The Clix in it aren't reprints; they have brand-new sculpts and dials. They're overhauls of unplayable characters from Hypertime. And I think the Icons starter set will be great: Six exclusive clix with different dials AND sculpts, also unlike Universe. The Universe starter had the same figs with different dials, but Icons isn't the same way. And just for proof that Icons isn't a set of reprints, Wizkids has included battlesuit Lex and D Grayson.
Second, I didn't vote Icons because I'm primarily a DC fan. Actually, it's exactly the opposite: I'm more a fan of Marvel comics than DC (although I do enjoy a good Batman read). I didn't vote for FF mostly because I don't know the characters (just because I prefer Marvel comics doesn't mean I read all of them). The main reason I prefer Marvel is because it's more realistic than DC(at least, as realistic as you can get with guys in red and blue spandex swinging around on webs from their wrists). Marvel's characters started out a lot more human than DC's: Spider-Man couldn't keep up with his bills, everyone hated the X-Men... Although DC has Marvelized their characters more recently, they started out as ideals: Superman was a well-payed, prestigious reporter; Wonder Woman was a flawless Amazon goddess; and Batman was a billionaire playboy (okay, maybe playboys aren't so ideal...).
The third reason I voted for Icons is for the Clixing. I don't prefer Marvel or DC clix, I play either one if they're worth it. Doesn't matter. I play Spider-Man over Superman, but Darkseid over Spider-Man. From what I've seen of the Icons sculpts, it's gonna be a nice set, plus we're gonna have a usable Flash and Superman.
Finally, in closing, I will restate what I said at the top of my post:
I vote Icons.

The problem I have always felt with DC and Marvel, is their styles of Storytelling are completely different.
DC is all about single characters battling their single villians.
Marvel is about Teams of people battleing the world.
When you say DC people think " Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, GL"
When you say Marvel people think "X-Men, FF, and maybe Hulk or Spidey"
With that said, it's hard as a played of this kind of game to justify excitment over a game that represents team abilities so poorly.
Unlike in Mageknight, or Mechwarrior when I could have two or three people attack the same person and hit with enhanced abilities, Heroclix for the most part barring some team abilities makes folks fight mono e mono.
Now obviously the PD ability, and Shield, and the like give bonuses to attack, but you never get the impression that they are really helping, at least in my mind.
So as a player I believe that in Heroclix the DC universe is better represented on the table top.
So I voted DC.

I own nearly every dc vertigo graphic novel, and have current subscriptions to several marvel and dc mags, but the simple fact is that marvel clix suck and dc clix are awesome. marvel went to great lengths in ff to change this with a bunch of cheap #### whose nerfdom is imminent. lockjaw is way under priced in any form, and the thunderbolts card is ridiculous. it is just a matter of time before these are restricted. whereas dc just puts out well-rounded useful clix.
I noticed Icons' lead slipped a bit (down to just over 58%) until FF was released
Now it is back up.
The initial thrill of a new set worn off plus some pics of the new figs: DC Icons: Best set...ever!
It's a close call, for me. I'm finding that - while a loyal follower (while not necessarily rabid reader) of Spidey, FF, X-men, Ultimates and all - I am being won over by DC-flavoured stuff as I continue.
Clixwise, it's a little simpler, though I play and collect only because I love comics - the good stories, especially. While I don't expect or demand complete comic-fidelity, I do appreciate it, and am more drawn to sensibly (re: the comics) rendered characters.
Seeing the stats of the FF set, it looks (to me) that the numbers are decent enough, and the powers don't bother me, too much. That will affect how interested I am in 'em. I'm not an ubercompetitor: I won't play figures I think are really borken carp, and find it difficult to play cheesy or poorly-constructed ones. I'm a moderate guy, in this fashion. It's so that I find myself feeling a little guilty fielding V Psylocke...stealth, range, BCF, good stats, affordable...I play for fun, and only a little bit of competition.
Hard to talk about the Icons set yet, but with a glimpse at the 'starter' figs, I think I like 'em. I was initially struck by how 'vanilla' they seemed regarding powers (excepting Zoom and DKD Bats) - but upon reflection, I like 'em. There will be/already are differing versions of the main boyz, so choices can be made about which to play (I still love my green-gloves Batman, sad as that may be).
I voted for Icons, only because a fresh/tested start of main favorites wins out over cool new/tertiary characters, and Icons seems to have more main/standard characters that are intended to be the main/standard ones...not so much OWAW Superman, KC variants, or single-storyline guys. It was tough, though. I'm all for the Four, Green Goblin (yes!), Sub-Mariner, Dr. Strange (YEESSS!!), Danny and Luke, the classic Vulture, Awesome Andy...blah blah blah.
Plus, I'm kinda on a DC kick, anyway. Reading some Kelly-written JLA storylines recently...The Burning, Obsidian Age...that may have something to do with it.
(Consider U's of Obsidian Age League? Kyle as GL? Fernus the Burning big fig? Great big Plastic Man?)
Carry on with your days. I'm having a decent one.

Hello All,
I went with DC. Have you seen the sculpts for the new Joker? How about the new Batman? How about the new Superman?
It's true. They have been released before. It's high time that they were updated.
First off, let's talk about the look. For the past two years I have been waiting for cool looking representations of these classic characters. Don't get me wrong. When they first came out, Hypertime's figures looked a whole lot better than Infinity Challenge. That was then. This is now.
Also, WizKids dropped the ball the first time they created Superman in clix form. The rookie version from Hypertime can't even knock down a wall. He is one of the flagship characters from the DC Universe. It is well past time that an updated and far more accurate version of this character was released.
Shall we talk about Batman? No DC characters had the Stealth power back in the early days of the game. That's why the JLA version of Batman did not hide in the shadows. I'll concede that we got a new version of this character recently; however, in case you have not noticed, most players field this figure without cape, cowl or head.
The long and short of it, I'm ready to get me a case of DC Icons.
Regards and Best Wishes,
Donald Eric Kesler

Sorry to all the hardcore DC players, but, I have to give the win to FF. This set has everything that a great team needs. A plethora of USEABLE psychic blasters, which in my opinion is one of the best powers, they also spruced up my other favorite power in this set with a card called "Nova Blast". FF is a downrite mean mean set.

Glad I voted FF. Even though Icons won the poll I think it's clear even now that FF is the superior product to Icons. The sculpts already blow Icons away AND from the dials we've seen thus far in Icons...boring!
:) How can anyone possibly say that the FF sculpts and dials are clearly superior to Icons when we haven't even seen the set yet?
The sculpts in FF are for the most part just incredibly well done - the paint jobs too. Good job WK! And from the few photos we've seen of Icons figures, they look to be very much of the same incredibly well done quality as FF. Superman? Lex Luthor in power armor? Batman & Robin? Joker & Harlequin? Manbat? Hawkgirl? Blackfire? Flash? They all look very much the equal of FF in cool sculpts to me. Especially Flash. :classic: A VERY cool sculpt. Considering that sculpts from both sets have most likely been done by some of the same sculptors and that the figures are being made and painted up at the same factories, I would imagine both sets will be pretty equal in the looks department.

I definitely have to say that Icons will be better. With FF, I don't know if I am the only one but I got tons of dupes. Plus trying to get the figures you wanted also was very hard when you only get 3 figures in each pack. But from what I can so far see, the figures in Icons look very playable. As long as it won't be a repeat of their last pack, Unleashed, I'm very happy. :)
