Wow. That's a lot of comics!
Yeah, that's why we don't go out much anymore. :) Seriously, though, if my wife wasn't into them as much as I am, I wouldn't be getting this many. This way it's two people's entertainment budgets instead of one.

My list is in the Marvel thread so I won't bother posting it again.
Green Arrow (On the chopping block)
Is that because of the current team of Widdick and Fowler? Because Fowler's off the book now.

Seven Soldiers: Shining Knight (Great stuff, fairly powerful)
Seven Soldiers: Manhattan Guardian (it's my least favorite of the bunch but it's still fun)
Seven Soldiers: Zatanna (I think I like this one most)
Seven Soldiers: Klarion the Witch Boy (issue one was intriguing)

The DC books I'm reading currently are:
-Seven Soliders (Freakin awesome stuff!)
-Manhunter (One of the best books on the market, easily. And it's nice because everyone that dies isn't a character I really liked, which is more than I can say for just about any other "lethal" book on the market right now)
-all 4 of the IC books (though it's more for completeness and wanting to know what's going on than actual enjoyment on the ones that aren't Rann-Thanagarian War)
-JSA (because it's the best written super team comic that's not he Ultimates right now, usually)
-The Flash (because he remains my favorite superhero to this day, and somehow has managed to have his whole world completely messed up and made terrible permenantly (though that little arc where no one knew who he was right after Blitz had me worried for a little while)
-JLA: Classified (though I'll probably be stopping once the YWBINTJL is over, because the Warren Ellis batman looks to be one of the stupidest things I have ever seen, and the whole Batman universe has become so intolerably bad right now I can barely look at the covers without wanting to vomit)
-Legion of Superheroes (because I'm an old Legion fan, and its pretty alright. Two stories a comic is cool to see nowadays)
-Teen Titans (Because it's gotten better after the pretty terrible and plot hole ridden mess that was its begining, which is odd to see from the usually very continuity-minded Geoff Johns)
I'm still waiting to be wow'd completely and utterly by a book, and look forward to it as much as I used to as a kid, but I'm not going to hold my breath if the ammount of lethality continues to be this high in the DCU.

Is that because of the current team of Widdick and Fowler? Because Fowler's off the book now.
It is on the block because of the change in creative team. I loved the Smith run, ditto for Metlzer (sp?). I left the book after that run until Winnick brought me back. With him gone, I'm uncertain about keeping the subcription. Green arrow has always been one of my favorite DC guys, but I'm not really sure the book is still monthly buy material. We'll see. I'll be probably be dropping Outsiders soon for the same reason.
Just as well, I've got to clear some room on my pull list for Ult FF when Millar's run starts.

Superman
Superman/Batman
Villains United
I'm thinking about picking up Gotham Central. Is is any good? I liked some of Rucka's stuff, a bit bland though.
If you like shows like NYPD Blue or [Insert Random Cop Drama here], you'll like Gotham Central. It's a cop drama with a superhero edge.
Basically, it shows what it's like to be a 'regular joe' dealing with cleaning up the messes a superhero creates and tracking down supervillains when the heroes are busy doing other things.

06/15/2005, 11:11
Legion of Superheroes
Lex Luthor
Green Lantern
The Infinite Crisis limited series (and most of the tie-ins - I'll definitely be picking up the JLA where Batman snaps!)
The Seven Soldiers limited series
I read the Deadshot limited series
I've been picking up Batman to follow the Red Hood/Jason Todd story line
I read the following in TPB only:
Teen Titans
Outsiders (where's # 3?!?!?)
JSA
Hawkman (just started picking up and not caught up yet)
Batman/Superman
Birds of Prey (just started picking up the Simone-written ones but again just started - damn you 50% off bins at comic cons!!!)
(Jeeze that's a lot of comics for a guy who used to only read Marvel!)
At the moment, just JSA. However, I picked up the first four TPB's of Y: The Last Man on the recommendation of a friend. I'm reading through them now and I think that may have to be another regular purchase for me. Good stuff!

LeaLu: don't forget JSA Classified coming out this month. The first story arc is on the true origin of Power Girl.
And read the book!

I'll keep an eye out, because it's for Power Girl. :)
And yeah, TPBs are about the limit of my reading right now. Picked up all the old JSA ones, I'm set until Black Reign comes out, and I'll probably keep going with Y: in TPB form if they get around to releasing more.

I'll probably keep going with Y: in TPB form if they get around to releasing more.
I believe book 5 of Y is due out soon.
I like trades because I don't have to worry about them. They're not like comics that I have to bag and keep safe. I buy them beat up in the 50% off bins/sales and I lend them out like I'm some sort of nerdy library.
Gentlegamer
06/15/2005, 14:36
Wait til you read Black Reign!
I TRY to limit myself to two books a week... that sometimes works... :)
Birds of Prey is my absolute-cannot-live-without book; closely followed by...
Y: The last man. Oy, it's expensive though.
Batgirl
Nightwing (though I skipped the Year One arc in favor of waiting for the TPB. Thank goodness for scans)
JSA (got all the back issues on scans, and fell in love, so now I'm collecting the paper version)
Villans United
Day of Vengance.
As for Marvel, I'm buying Ultimate Iron Man (though my boyfriend is going to be getting the rest), and my boyfriend has subscriptions to Ultimate X-Men and Ultimates, so I keep up on those, too.
Other than that, I pick up issues of things that look interesting - occasional Teen Titans, Robin, Hawkman, JLA and Ultimate Spiderman.
Oh, and LeaLu, I'd DEFFINATLY reccomend JSA: Strange Adventures if you like classic JSA - the art's pretty good, and the story's both GREAT (if tounge-in-cheek) and hilarious. One of my fav reads (I actually bought the whole thing for my boyfriend for his birhday, and ended up reading the whole thing sitting on my living room floor while wrapping it up for him).

Teen Titans
Outsiders
Superman/Batman
Green Arrow
Nightwing
Birds of Prey (my #2 favorite)
Ect...
But, to be strait with you, I'm all about the Legion of Super Heroes right now. Mark Waid has taken that borken piece of carp and turned it into a polished gem, and I personally hope he gets the chance to do it with a lot of other carp titles.
Legion is the best thing DC has put out in years, and I love the facts that you don't know whether or not it takes place in the DCU or in ours, seeing as how they constantly refer to specific issues of DC comics to eachother. Plus, you must all bow down to the fan mail being answered by the characters themseleves.
If you're not reading Legion, then you need to be stripped of your Fanboy license. Period.

Wow! This would take a lot less typing if I had to post my Marvel list. :cheeky:
DC:
* Seven Soldiers - all of them. Grant Morrison fanatic alert! Hide the innocent!
* Infinite Crisis build-up minis - all of them.
* Flash
* Detective Comics. I'm not as fanatic about David Lapham as I am about Grant Morrison, but I'm starting to think I should be.
* JSA
* JLA
* JLA Classified (sounds like I'll be getting JSA classified as well)
* Action Comics - The last two issues were great. I love this comic. Platonically, of course.
* Aquaman. He's the man. I know it, you know it.
* Gotham Central
* Green Lantern
Vertigo:
* 100 Bullets
* Swamp Thing. Swamp monsters are cool.
* Fables
* Y, the Last Man
Wildstorm:
* Ex Machina
(Do Moore's ABC comics fall into the Wildstorm category? If so, this list is getting bigger.)

Dagnab it!
How could I forget to list Legion of Superheroes, especially after the previous post? That guy is rabid!
Here's the official addendum:
I also collect Legion of Super Heroes.
There.
I said it.

I'll take a look... is it in trade form?
No, it's only been out a few months; my comic shop had all six issues for $.10 over cover (their standard off-the-rack markup), but I'd GLADLY pay more - I can't even describe how great it is. It's so... Oh, it's just like one of the goofy WWII era comics where the villan only marginally makes sence, and there's that WAY all the heros talk that just sounds so funny, only the art has details and is in more than four colors.

I'll take a look... is it in trade form?
You want it? Pm me with your address and I'll send them to you. I could care less about them, and I have them all.
And yes, I am rabid about Legion. It's just nice to see them done in a way that makes them NOT "Teen Cops" but "Teenagers." Hell, even I would join the new Legion if I was still 16. And that's why it OWNS.
But I think we're the only two that listed it, so....
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PEOPLE.... BUY THE LEGION OF SUPER HEROES!!!!
I can't stand another re-con of Cosmic Boy... :laugh:
But I think we're the only two that listed it, so....
*coughs* looks at Post #5 (and several other poster on page one of the thread)
I'll stand up in favour of the new Legion. I hated the DnA stuff, but didn't think there was anything that couldn't be fixed with a good writer, so I was very hesitant when they said they were starting over... again. But this book is great! I haven't been this excited about the Legion since Levitz was writing. Waid is really creating some great characters out of the old. My only complaint was that the plot is taking it's time to get going, but the last few issues have seemed to jump into gear.
I still miss Gates, but honestly DnA pretty much wrote him out of their series long ago, I just hope he gets brought back into the "new" timeline before I'm a geriatric.

While I ended up not continuing with the Legion, another selling point is that each issue is a stand alone story so far.

I used to collect Legion back in the 80's, lost touch with the book, and so I took a chance with the fist issue of LSH and it's been one of the most consistently good books out there for me. I hope they keep up with letters page like the last issue.
Here's my pull list:
Batman
Detective Comics
Nightwing
Birds of Prey
Catwoman
Green Lantern
JLA
Flash
Wonder Woman
JSA
The Outsiders
Teen Titans
Superman
Superman/Batman

Not doing the Crisis minis, thugit?

Day of Vengence is good too. You gotta love any book that has both Blue Devil and Detective Chimp in it, especially when they're completely out of their league. Not to mention Ragman getting shot down by Enchantress in the most public of manners, and Nightshade finally admitting that she's jealous of Enchantress, all while Spectre is kicking the carp out of Captain Marvel.
It's worth the $2.00 a month.

I was severely underwhelmed by the first two issues, but the third issue was great. I wish the art was better, as a lot of this book deals with issues of scale and perspective, a tighter artist would have helped. Despite my reservations about story padding in the first two chapters, I'd still say this is worth a look. I really hope this acting as a magical conduit helps get the Enchantress back "in character". THen things should really get fun.
