View Full Version : A Little XBox Help Here Please
Im going back to New York for a few weeks at the end of June (YES!!) and Im thinking of picking up an XBox and maybe a game or two while Im there.
One of the games Im considering strongly is The Punisher. Ive been hearing some good things about this game, and have been a HUGE Punisher fan for a very long time. Good choice, bad, cool, not?
Another game Im considering is Star Wars Legos, but while I have heard some great things about it, I have a bit of reservation playing a game where everything is made from....well, Legos. Is this game as good and fun as Im hearing? What movies does it cover? Is this a better SW choice than say Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith?
Im also a Big Survival Horror/RPG game fan, any ideas for some really top notch XBox games for this? It could be old, as long as its good (old is OK as we dont have Xbox now and have yet to play a game for it really) We have Gamecube, and while I do think its a cool system and am looking forward for the next Zelda game this holiday, Im looking for something new now.
Any help all?

For FPS Halo and Halo 2 are the best games on any platform on the market. They're large, long (ie no beating them in 4 hours), killer graphics, sounds, etc.
For Starwars, the best game on any system to date is Starwars: Battlefront (although I like it better on the PC). Starwars: Republic Commando is also very good. Both are FPS games. However, Battlefront let's you fight on many of the movie planets, with background life forms running about (Gungans on Naboo you can kill, and Ewoks on Endor you can kill). Skip Starwars: Obi-Wan or Starfighter. Neither are any good. Starwars: Episode III is surprisingly fun. Especially when you unlock Darth Vader and Alec Guiness Obi Wan for a Death Star saber battle.
The Mech Assault games are pretty fun, if you like big stompy robots/machines.
Enclave is a good RPG/Third Person adventure game. Much more action oriented then most RPGs though, so if you want a lot of NPC interaction, it's not for you.
Red Dead Revolver is a great Western 3rd person shooter, which has every cheesy bit you love from Spagetti Westerns.
Star Wars Legos is a great game really fun to play covers episodes 1 - 3 and an extra hidden level from 4. It has a bit of some good replay value but the game is short, id wait till it gets cheaper or rent it. Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith, is a good game as well, turns into a button masher but still ok, it is very short as well.
The punisher is ok, but gets old quick, id rent it. I will second red dead revolver, great story.
If you like fun driving games burnout 3 is a must, Im not a big raceing fan but this game is loads of fun and its $20 now. Crimson skys and mercenaries are good games as well. I try to look for games that are fun, that dont lead to bordom and have a good replay value.
Excellent posts guys, youre already beginning to make me rethink my original picks. Keep them coming all, as a LONG time video game lover, but an XBox newbie, I could really use the help.

ok to get your star wars and rpg fix you must check out Knights of the Old Republic. One of the best rpgs I've played as well as one of the best Star Wars games I've played. The story in it is so much better than the prequels. It has lots of replayability too because you can be a Dark or Light side Jedi based on how you interact with the NPCs and you get a different ending for each side. Plus you can find it cheap because it's an older game. The sequel is pretty good too.
Ah yes, ive heard of that game. Its good huh? And were talking the original KOTOR, not its sequel, Sith Lords, yes? Thanks guys. Any info on some cool Survival Horror games, or besides Burnout 3, any good racing games? Doesnt matter if its old, if its a good game, the older the better (as it wont cost as much as a new game, and heck, its still a new game to me if ive never played it :) )

The suffering is a good horror / survival game. It's got different endings depending on how you play. Silent Hill 4 is pretty cool also. If you like FPS and still want to remain in the same genre of tastes than I would also recommend Doom 3.
That game is simply amazing to look at
I've not played much of those games, as I simply watch my buddy play, and help him (do it for him) figure out the puzzles. Pretty good stories though for sure.
Burnout 3 is quite excellent. I'm not a racing sim fan and this game is as far from that as it could be. Good ol' fashioned fun. A must at a $20.00 value. Also at $20.00 are the first two Splinter cell games. Story wise and immersionly ? hands down one of my favorite titles. I havn't played the latest yet, but hopefully will be after father's day. Those are action / adventure. Niinja Gaiden is awsome also but there is a new edition coming out soon that has the expansions packaged with it.
If you are a SW fan and enjoy RPG's I also recommend (as stated above) KOTOR. Great game.

yes I was talking about the original game. The sequel is also good, but not quite as good as the first one. the story in the sith lords isn't quite up to par with the first one, but it's still a fun game.

Both KOTORs are great. The first one should only be like $20 now so definitely go for that. Halo or Halo 2 is a must if you have any interest in FPS. You also might want to give Chronicles of Riddick a try. A rare instance of the game being much better than the movie. Another good RPG is Morrowind if you're into the more open-ended do whatever you want, don't have to follow the plot line RPGs. I've also heard that the Punisher gets repetitive. Let's see... Survival Horror is a bit thin on Xbox but something like Silent Hill might be good, depending on whether you prefer the physical scares of say a Resident Evil vs psychological thrills (which is more what Silent Hill is about). The combat in Silent Hill isn't all that great but the story and the atmosphere is top-notch. DOOM 3 is also an option although it's more FPS than survival.
Thanks guys, youre all helping me out Heaps. (at this stage, Im definately loo0king for the first KOTOR) A few have mentioned Silent Hill (which I played and very much enjoyed the first SH on PS1), though I was told the Silent Hill series is only for PS2, not XBOX? Is this so?

I believe the third and fourth Silent Hills were released only on PS2. However Silent Hill 2: Restless Dreams was released on the Xbox and should only be about $20 now.

A follow-up. It looks like SH4 was released on Xbox as well so that would be an option too.
EXCELLENT, I was a big fan of the Silent Hill PS1 game. Has anyone played both SH2 and SH4 (which I believe is called The Door?)? which would you recommend over the other.
XBOX List So Far

I've played SH2 on the Xbox back when it first came out. It was freaky but the combat was pretty clunky. Don't know if it's gotten better in the 4th one or not. They both should be pretty cheap now. However if you're playing KOTOR it'll be awhile before you have time for another game.
The Punisher game is fun. If you are a Punisher fan, you'll enjoy it. I did thoroughly and beat the game, and often have problems with a game keeping my attention long enough to beat it. With one big exception, its really accurate to the comics and the movie, and Garth Ennis co-wrote it.
Since you are a comics fan, you'd also probably really like the Spider-man 2 game and X-Men: Legends.

The best Spiderman game yet made is still the PS1 version. It still has the best gameplay of all the Spidey games (camera angles mar Spiderman 1 and 2 for the Xbox).

I had little to no problems w/ the camera in Spider-man 2 for the Xbox. It did an awesome job of capturing the freedom and swinging. There were times when all I'd do is so how far and fast I could swing... or climb the tallest building and jump off and see how close I could come to the ground w/o splatting.
Since you are a comics fan, you'd also probably really like the Spider-man 2 game and X-Men: Legends.
That I do, as I have them both already for the Gamecube. :) Cool, Punisher is coming back on the list I think, so I believe its Punisher, SW KOTOR and Silent Hill 4. (depending on how much they go for really) Thanks alot guys.
