Pokemon Emerald help

my wife is a big pokemon fan.
in pokemon emerald, on route 103 she found something called "altering cave".
she's wondering what the deal is with "altering cave".
all she finds in there are zubats(sp?).
is there anything else the cave is meant for, maybe another one of those "only happened in the japanese version of the game" deals?

she'd appreciate any help.

Have you tried hooking it up to the Gamecube? It might do something else, or might unlock something in there, but yeah. All I've seen is zubat.
