View Full Version : Best Video Game Villain

We have all played video games involving classic heroes. But for every hero, there is a terribly powerful villain to stop their quest. But in our hearts, we all know that one bad guy stands above the rest in evil plots and acting them out. So I ask you, who's got the biggest [evil] balls of them all? I'd say Ganon from all the Zelda games (but especially Ocarina of Time). Your thoughts?

I'd probably have to agree with you. Ganon just seems to have the biggest evil impact in my eyes....or Sephiroth from FFVII! I change my vote to Sephiroth!

Either Ganon or Dr. Whiley from MegaMan.
Here's my ranking:
1.Kefka(FFVI)
2.M.Bison(Street Fighter)
3.Ganon(Legend of Zelda)
4.Dracula(Castlevania)
5.Lavos(Chrono Trigger)
6.Majora(Legend of Zelda:Majora's Mask)
7.Sephiroth(FFVII)
8.Bowser(Mario Bros.)
9.Mother Brain(Metroid)
10.Geese Howard(Fatal Fury)
Honorable Mention: The Heartless (Kingdom Hearts)
Some of my favorites are: Golbez (FF2/6), Magus (Chrono Trigger), Dracula (Castlevania series), Sigma (Megaman X series)

I'd say that Bowser deserves the award, mostly due to his peerless tenacity. Take a look at how long he's been at it, and how many games he's in. True, his mostly-sinister machinations inevitably backfire like so much bananna-stuffed tailpipe, but every time without fail he picks himself up and sets off with another malevolent and cartoonishly ingenious scheme. Trusty as the rising and setting of the sun, Bowser will ALWAYS be there with a spring in his step and a trick up his sleeve, ready to rain down malcontent and fiery whatnot on all those little mushroom people and whoever else stands in his path.

Sephiroth(FFVII)

How about: who is the hardest video game villain to defeat?
I nominate Dracula from the original Castlevania.
How about the final boss of Ghost's and Goblin's or 7th Saga? I can't remeber either of their names though.

Ghosts n' Goblins was Lucifer. He was easy!
I liked the Giant Robot Guy from the first Freedom Force.
Kaiser Sigma from MMX3.
Okay, most everyone has played a mega man game of some sort.
If you haven't seen this boss, or you want a good visual image, I'll describe it.
You're a little guy in a room with this boss, the room does not scroll, just a plain ol small square room.
Kaiser Sigma takes up 80% of the screen.
His weakness is his head, which also happens to be like approximately 8-10 pixels big....not a big clear target.
He's firing missiles and lasers EVERYWHERE, to which you must respond by haplessly dodging or counterfire.
Oh, did I mention that the big guy MOVES! Yes, he takes up 80% of the screen and moves around. And if you stand there, he jumps on your puny head.
If you can beat him with the regular X Buster with 0 E-tanks....you have my respect.
My record so far is 2 E-Tanks in 30 minutes. I would like to do this without my thumbs blistering. This guy is that bad.
Also, Dr. Wily in MM7....where he's just in the final pod that randomly appears all over the place. That boss can only be beaten by SHEER LUCK, he's unrighteously difficult too.

Two words.
Donkey Kong.

Donkey Kong is a reformed villain, we don't count that.

He's just letting you think that.

Bah! Its Dracula. Sephiroth was in only one sequel, Dracs been in sooo many and pretty tough to beat in all of the Castlevania's.

i would have to say. the ff7 boss i mean comon a 20 foot sword you cant beat that. as for mario goes i would have say the one from mario brothers 2 i mean you feed it to kill it. The hardest boss i have ever fought had to be the boss on mario rpg i mean he did have a tank for a head, and for the hardest side boss i would have to say that one from bakanel on ffx2 it took me a full greastest hits cd of the chilly peppers both linkin park cds the come poop with me cd and both the frist two god smack cd's just to beat him once and it took me 2 tries. Mega mans end boss fright yeah i would have to say x3.

I'm not so sure about him being the "best" but Revolver Ocelot from the Metal Gear Solid games is definitely one of my favourites.

Revolver Ocelot is a good villain, but you never get to fight him save once, and he wasn't skilled yet (I haven't played MGS3 yet, and I know nothing about the game trying to keep it a surprise for when I do get around to it). One character in the MGS games that I loved was Psycho Mantis. The entire boss battle was brilliantly designed. If you haven't played Metal Gear Solid, I won't spoil it for you, but the ones who have know how great and unique that experience was. I wish I could go back, not knowing the secrets to have the experience again; it was incredible. Sorry if that seemed a little orgasmic.

play MGS3 NOW!! It's probably the most breathtaking game i've ever played.

That brick wall my sister and cousin kept driving into in the motorcycle stage of Battletoads. I think I learned more bad words hanging out there than anywhere else...
I'll nominate The End from MGS: Snake Eater for a hard and intimidating boss. And he can't even kill you! For those who haven't played the game, I'll give a little info: The End is this 100 year old sniper who ambushes Snake. The entire battle takes place on 3 huge maps where you have to hunt down The End (who's also great at hiding) while avoiding being seen. He shoots with tranqs, so it's hard for him to take you out if you keep pulling them out and eating, but it still took me an hour to beat him with all the hiding, looking and then when you find him you have to shoot him without him hearing you and setting off a flash bomb. Oh, and if he sneaks up behind you, he shoots you in the back of the head and you lose. Metal Gear was a cakewalk compared to this.
I'm surprised no one has said King Koopa or Wario.
My vote though, would go to the alien from Contra.
Oh i just looked back and someone did say Bowser (I always think of him as King Koopa).

Well I definitely will get some people calling me dumb for this one but Jack of Blades from Fable. He definitely has a huge impact on the game!

Outraged that no-ones mentioned the villain from the best video games ever!
King K Rool
from Donkey Kong Country / DKC2 : Diddys Kong Quest.

HA! I knew this thread wouldn't go more than 10 posts without Sephiroth being brought up.
I'm voting for Dracula, from Castlevania, because I love Castlevania.

I'm with Tchipley Sephiroth(ff7) is defenately the most bad A** villan that was ever in a videogame!

Ganon is probably the best since Ocarina of Time...which I think will go down as among the best games ever. My favorite villains were Werdna from Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord, Sidney in Vagrant Story and the Eggs in Burgertime...all for different reasons of course. Dracula in Castlevania is notoriously difficult to defeat...so he is a shoe in here.

Kerigan from starcraft.
Blah, she's only a credible villian because the 'good guys' were freaking morrons. Honestly, Starcraft had great game play, but some of the worst plotlines in any games on the market (and I played it to death, it was SOOOO badly scripted/written).
Almost all of the Freedom Forces villians are great, Nuclear Winter, Mr. Mechanical, Time Master, Baron Blitzkrieg, Entropy, Red Oktober, Pan, etc. They really nailed the period comics with them.
My favorites include the Kilrathi from the Wing Commander series (my favorite all time game series), and the Shivans from the Descent Freespace series (a good runner up to Wing Commander).
I also enjoyed killing Clanners in MW2: Mercenaries, and MW3.
Oh, and let me not forget, the Tan army men from Army Men. That game was so sweet when it first came out. Made so by the little plastic men, and the vile 'Tan' villiany.
For old school consoles, the Normans from Defender of the Crown. Also the MCP from the classic Tron arcade game (the Tron arcade is still one of my all time favorite arcade games) and the Death Star in the classic Star Wars arcade (the one that was just line renderings, out in the early to mid 80s).

The big ol' Squid guy at the end of HL:Opposing Force.
Mr. Gone
08/27/2005, 09:08
The Red Ghost from PacMan. People keep talking about how great enemy AI is in a games these days, well they haven't surpassed The Red Ghost. This guy is always 3 steps ahead when I'm playing. HE'S UNBEATABLE.
I nominate Bowser for the best appearance of a video game villain ever in a tv commercial. The one where he keeps getting beaned by the pitching machine in the ad for Mario Bros. Baseball. LOL That commercial kills me.
Sturm from the Advance Wars games. I still can't figure out what in the hell he is.....
Conversely, I just picked up Dual Strike for my DS last night, and it RAWKS! If you have a DS (the whole 3 of you out there), I highly recommend this one.
KEFKA. Come on, the guy was friggin' nuts. He poisoned a river in direct defiance of his evil superiors.
Leo: "Kefka, I have to go. You're in charge. Don't poison the river."
Kefka: "Right, I'll get right on that."
*poison*
He's just so power-mad. It's awesome. If he was in, say, FFIX or X instead of VI, and he didn't look all cute and cartoony, he'd have a much tougher rep.
Dr. Wily was awesome, too. I mean, if you think about it, he knew that Light was a soft touch. "Oh, I've reformed this time. Take me back. Yes. Now let me introduce you to my EVIL ROBOTS!" Light is like the Sting to Wily's Flair. I guess that makes the robots the Horsemen...
Anyway though, Kefka. Honorable mention to friggin' Ridley. HOW MANY TIMES CAN ONE THING DIE?! He's cool as hell.

Sturm? Sturm is King of the Snifits.
And you can make that 4. Got a DS JUST for Advance Wars.
Just changed my vote from Sturm to......
JADE EMPIRE SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!
Sun Li the Glorious Strategist (Jade Empire). Your sensei at the beginning betrays you, kills you, and takes the power of a goddess for his own. You come back from the dead for revenge. He was an AWESOME villian, as he befriended you for your whole life just to betray you at your most glorious moment. Glorious Strategist is an understatement by all means.

How about: who is the hardest video game villain to defeat?
I nominate Dracula from the original Castlevania.
That whole game was difficult, but I think the Grim Reaper was a tad harder than Dracula in that one, althought he was definitely hard.
I will say, thought, that beating that game was one of the most satisfying due the level of difficulty it had.

That brick wall my sister and cousin kept driving into in the motorcycle stage of Battletoads. I think I learned more bad words hanging out there than anywhere else...
 LMAO
That game was borderline ridiculous to play, especially in those stages. I think my mom learned about my colorful vocabulary when I played that game as well....
You guys forgot about Mike Tyson from Punch-out. we was the baddest boss in all nintendo games. He can knock you out with just one punch, but that doesn't mean no one can beat him, its just that everyone who encountered him for the first time could not believe that they got to the last boss but only lasted for a few seconds.
Mike tyson beat me so many times that after almost 20 years I can still recall the password/code to Mike Tyson's stage. Its 007-373-5963, its one of those codes that you can't forget like the up-up-down-down code.
