I remember very clear the T Burton Batman in 1989, that year ALL was Batman, underpans, toys, music (Prince), t-shirts, condons, all!
and now yesterday I was in "Batman Begins" I'm old! and in the next year with Superman Returns will be worst because I was in the first Superman in 1978 (but I really was a kid :) )
Do you feel the same??

BTW, The movie was aswsome, I don't know what movie was bether (Batman 1 Burton or Begins) but I tell you for sure one thing: the Burton movie was more succesfull. How I say that 1989 was ALL Batman, I don't see this year as the Batman's year. But in the Burton movie the impact was really hush!

what?! I'm the only one with more of 30 years???

I doubt it, but considering I'm only 21 and still remember the experiences you are describing, I don't think anyone who fits the description is neccessarily "old". Hell, my little brother just turned 20 and HE watched that movie with me.
Yes, I was born in 1983, and that would mean I was 6 and my brother was 4 when it was in theatres. We saw it on VHS when I was around 8, and we loved it. Our parents were pissed that we had snuck it out of the "SECRET STASH" and watched it, but in the end, I'm glad we did. When Batman Returns hit shelves, we split on it as well.
I distinctly remember most of my friends in grade school having watched Returns in the theatre, so I doubt I'm alone here, unless my friends were freaks....
I totally remember Burton's bat. And you are right Carlos, 1989 was "the year of the bat." Heck I tink Prince made his whole career off of that one movie.

Huh? Prince was huge way before that movie. In fact, that movie was (one of) the low points of his career.

Though you have to admit, you probably weren't using the bat-condoms at that point in your life.

...what? I have no idea what's going on.

That's what I was referring to.

He had a following, but the movie soundtrack (not the score which was Danny Elfman) was all his music, so it was the first time a lot of people had heard his music. I remember my brotyher bought the cassette and it was the first time I'd heard his music.
Oh and yes it was a low point, because the music pretty much stunk. :P

Urr? People were hearing Prince for the first time in the soundtrack? No wonder it killed his career... if I'd heard "Bat Dance" before "Little Red Corvette" I probably would have been revolted too.
Still... Prince was capital-H HUGE in the 80's. I don't know if I could have named anyone who didn't at least know "When Doves Cry" or "Purple Rain" or "Raspberry Beret" or even "U Got the Look" when I was a kid.

Yeah, I remember seeing an episode of Sesame Street where he reworked Raspberry Beret to be about icecream and called it Raspberry Sorbet.
However, his best work of all time has to be ##### Control.

Sorry, but at that point Prince was one of the biggest acts in the music industry. He first hit the scene in the 70's but his music went largley unnoticed.
His first real hit was 1979 or 1980's 1999. Along with the title track, Little Red Corvette was also a major hit for Prince and are now two of his most recognized hits.
Prince hit it big with his Purple Rain Soundtrack, which in 1984 was about the only thing that could hold a candle to Michael Jackson's Thriller Album. The Album had 4 Top 40 hits, out of 9 songs, one being the Title track and another being When Doves Cry (arguably his best song ever!)
He followed that up with Around the world in a Day, which spawned Rasberry Beret and Pop Life, 2 Top 40 hits, but the album was mostly a failure. I think it came out in 1985.
The following album, the soundtrack to Under the Cherry Moon, was a multi platinum album which produced a series of Top 40 hits, including Kiss , Girls and Boys, and Mountains.
I could go on, but siffice it to say, he had a top 40 hit at least once each year from 1979-1989, outting out an album at a clip of once a year.
In that time, he also helped other singers, such as Sinead O'Connor (Nothing Compares 2 U) and the Bangles,(Manic Monday) by writing music for them.
So while you may not have heard of him, most people in that time did, because at that time, he was all over the radio and TV.
Also, while many people here didn't like the Batman soundtrack, it was a big hit for Prince fans, and I think it's one of his best albums. It's him to a tee.
And Carlos, I went to see Batman everyday for the first week of it's release, twice!

Yeah, my grandmother had the Purple Rain soundtrack. (Seriously - she was a big Van Halen fan, too.) Even today, I'm pretty sure that you could flip over a rock on the moon and find a "Sign 'o' the Times" cassingle...
I can't believe this thread got hijacked for Prince.......
I'm gonna go sob in the corner now......

Saw Batman (1989), Superman, and Superman II, all on their respective opening nights. I didn't expect to be able to see Burton's Batman, so my wife and I went shopping at a mall instead. As we were walking around, we saw the short line at the theater, so we figured we would try to see it. We were fortunate enough to get tickets (and actual seats) for the movie. They oversold it, and had to bring in a bench for the last few people to sit on at the back of the theater.
I like the new Batman better. Not sure if it's the best comic book movie ever, but it is certainly the best Batman movie.

Oh, and I have several Prince albums too. Some from even before Batman. Truely a low point in his career.

Very nicely said Darth Sabre, it saves me from having to defend the best pop musician of all time.
I am also 24, and remember when Batman first came out. I loved it then, and I love it now, Jack Nicholson is still the only Joker I can picture, with the Mark Hamil voice, that is. Batman: The Animated Series is still one of the best cartoons ever. I've seen Batman Begins twice, and will have to see it more before saying it's better than the first one, but it's close.

OPh and about Prince (what is the stupid name he have now? "The Artist"?)
well I still have the cassete of the movie (Batman soundtrack) I remember back then I LOVE that music, probabily for the movie, but still was awsome! but after years now that Batdance don't sound that good, is like the things what we wach in the past and we love, and when you again after several years you say "how I love this #### soo much when I was a kid?"!
Ohh and Dany Helfman... that is the real Batman "music"
LOL Sorry Carlos, I didn't mean to send your thread off on Prince tributes.
all I can say is I was never a Prince fan, so the only exposure I had of him was through the Batman movie soundtrack, since I DID like Batman. Sorry to insult all you Prince fans out there. It was the same way with me and Bobby Brown. I never listened any Bobby Brown really, until the Ghostbusters II soundtrack. LOL
I was more of a Rock fan than an R&B fan. Sorry to offend.
Yeh Danny Elfman is awesome! I wish they had kept his score to use for Batman Begins. It was the one thing that really could have carried over into these new films.

I remeber the year that the original Batman came out, It was the big thing at Christmas that year, everyone had to have the Batman action figure and my Mom had all of us convinced that there was no way that anyone could get anymore since they were all sold out. But sure enough on Christmas morning I opend a MIB Batman Action figure, which I quickly opend and played with it all day. SO um yeah, I do remember when Batman first came out. I was actually thinking about it while I was watching the movie thinking that there doing the series again too soon. man it doesn't feel like its been 16 years.

Actually he has gone back to Prince, since his war with Warner bros ended.
Also, Batdance is the most recognizable song on the album, but certainly not the best.
Trust, Party man, the Arms of Orion, and The Future are truer to Prince's style back then than Batdance.
ROGUE> No offense taken-from another Bobby Brown fan. Of course, I followed him from his days with New Edition and their hit Popcorn Love.
What can I say, the 80's is my era! :p
