This is obviously here to discuss the up and coming Nintendo Revolution, PS3, and X-Box 360.

some news that troubles me...

Nintendo confirms it has "no plans" for its next-generation console to support HDTV.
Even before the Xbox 360 was unveiled on May 12, Microsoft made much ado about how the console would support high-delimitation television. In his keynote address at this year's Game Developers Conference in March, Microsoft corporate vice president and chief XNA architect J Allard called the advent of hi-def video the "HD Era." When it (finally) put the 360 on public display, Microsoft revealed that all games for its console would run at a minimum of 720p resolution and be optimized for HD televisions.

When Sony took the wraps off the PlayStation 3 at E3 last month, it said the console could support two HDTVs. The dual-video output could be used to have one HDTV display additional game information--think supersized DS--while the other plays a game. The two outputs can also be used to create a panoramic, 32:9 extra-widescreen image on two HDTVs placed together (much like a dual-monitor display).

But while Sony and Microsoft have jumped onto the high-def video bandwagon with both feet, Nintendo is apparently letting it pass by. Following online reports, Nintendo of America confirmed to GameSpot today that it does not anticipate its next-generation console, the Revolution, to support HDTV. "There currently are no plans for Nintendo Revolution to support high-definition video output," said Perrin Kaplan, Nintendo of America's vice president of marketing and corporate affairs. While promising more Revolution details would be revealed "soon," for the moment, Kaplan would only give a vague reason for her company's decision. "We have thoroughly considered the best means of video output for the system and are dedicated to delivering the best

lemme ask this.

I'm going to get two of them. The Rev is a given, but what should I go with for the second.

I can't decide between the 360 and the PS3...

Personally I am forced to get the Revo (DAMN ZELDA!!!!) and possibly PS3. I am most likely not going to get a 360. I currently don't own an X-Box, nor do I like playing online games (basically the driving force for X-Box).

I am not bothered by the lack of High-Def support from the Revo. It would just be something that a small percentage of the consumer would use that would drive the price up $50-$100 for the console. I think its a good decision from Nintendo. The PS3 and 360 will be a pretty penny to buy, Nintendo has fought the competition (N64 and GCN era) with cheaper console prices. I don't know anybody who has a High-Def television. But from what rumors I have been hearing about the Revo controller, it may level the price. Who knows until they release more info.

As for deciding between 360 and PS3: its hard to tell which one to endorse. 360 will be out before the end of the year, PS3 will probably be out in March-May of 2006. You could wait to see what the PS3 has to offer. With any luck, Microsoft will have a price drop on the 360 to get some of the volume not wanting to pay the PS3 price tag. Although, the PS3 will be on the expensive side, there is no doubt about that. All we really have are announced games in development, we only have a few titles for the 360 launch, and only promises for the PS3. I would wait at least until the PS3 launch to make that decision.

REV already has me in the palm of it's hand, with 3 magic words: New Smash Bros.

The other two don't sound as appealing yet. The XBox360 will have a rushed launch, and thus all it's titles will suffer. And while I probably won't get the PS3 at launch, Sony gets all the awesome cult games (like Katamari Damacy and Disgaea) and the good fighting games eventually, so I will probably buy it then.

My only worry: Will 2D games on home consoles die? Better not, or THEY MUST PAY DEARLY FOR THEIR CRIMES! PAY! THEY MUST PAY! (Harvey Birdman quotes are fun)

Nintendo's problem is that they're so hell bent on being 'revoluntionary' (i.e. gimmicks) they don't even get the basics down. Gamecube insisted on using the micro discs and didn't have any DVD capability, and now the Revolution is missing out on the HDTV support.

Now, onto the PS3/360 debate. I think history is going to repeat itself here. 360 will have extra-shiny graphics and all sorts of computing power...and no really good games to make use of it. PS3 will look a little rough hardware wise when compared to the other two consoles, but it's going to have first pick of all the good new titles, PLUS it will have all of the classic PS2 and PS games to play...and if you already own the games, then you're set where as with the Revolution you'll have to pay to download the classics.

360 will be supporting backwards compatibility, but from what I understand it'll only be on select games. That means Halo, Halo 2, Ninja Gaiden, Fable. So much for that feature.

In the end, PS3 is going to be the more rounded unit. Tons of great games, support for all of the major media formats, online capability, wireless, and plenty of new games in development.

Depending on how cheap this 'revolution' is, I may buy it.

Also, by the looks of it, PS3 has superior graphics to the 360. But you never know. So far, all of the 360 games look just like Xbox games...but with better graphics. Whoop de freakin' doo.

I plan on getting a Revolution and a PS3, the revolution I will probably buy at or around launch, and the PS3 I will wait at least a year for. My cousin will be buying the 360 at launch and I am sure one of my other friends or a family member will buy the PS3 at launch. I don't think no HD support was a big mistake for Nintendo. With all my hobbies I will not have an HD TV for quite some time and the number of current HDTV owners is no where near significant enough to make it a mandate for all next gen consoles, in other words nice, but not necessary.

I look forward to how my PSP will hook up to my PS3, how an Xbox 360 can act as a true multimedia hub instead of the current half ### effort MS put out first. And Nintendo may not put out alot of them, but at least a few of those Revolution games are going to be STELLAR!

PS3, or 360?

PS3. Tekken 6 and Metal Gear Solid 4 are must buys.... No Halo, Mediocre Perfect Dark, means i can wait on the 360. Especially since Gears of War comes out NEXT year

I'll probably get a 360 because it'll be the first next-gen system out and I'll want it. Plus I've got an Xbox now, and it's the system I've been playing the most lately. I'll definitely get a Revolution as well because I'm a huge Nintendo fanboy and I'll have to show everybody in online Smash bros. why they should fear Luigi. PS3 will have to really impress me to make me want to get one. Although the fact that I have a PSP and that it will be able to connect to the PS3 is a step in the right direction.

I can't find a story on it right now, but it was announced at Nintendo's pre-E3 press conference. They said that a new Smash Bros. would be a launch title for the Revolution and that it would use the wifi feature to support online play. If you search for stuff about the Revolution from E3 you should be able to find it.

Im more of a Lee fan myself. I can whip ### with him. He's a lil rich ##### that holds his own. I dont mind Lei either. I LOVE Steve! He is killer! I can dodge back and forth, and then just knock the carp outta ya. I also love wearing the "daddy pants" as Heihachi. I used to team him up in Tekken Tag with Wang. They were my killer combo. Its funny when you team up Heihachi with Lee though, cause their intro, Lee is bent over Heihachi's legs, and he's spanking him.

As for the HCR SSB Online Tourney, I think that would be awesome. If Tekken comes out online, I'd love to start one of those up too. Now if Soul Caliber comes out, I wouldnt dare jump in on that. I've got a friend that is National Voldo Champion in that game. He's gone to tourney after tourney. He's #### hard to beat. I did it once with Maxi. (I <3 Maxi and Kilik).

Of course, many of you are assuming that you'll be using the same characters in Smash Bros. Revolution that you do in Melee, not thinking about possible changes in those characters and the inclusion of new ones.

So, to predict the future, you will all become Little Mac's dogs.

Umm, if Im not good with Dr. Mario, then I will work on it until that changes. Nah, I dont think they're going to change things that much. Atleast I hope not.....but I wouldn't mind some new characters.

You are pretty much guranteed to see:
Mario
Luigi
Link
Starfox
Donkey Kong
Kirby
Samus

Outside of that I really don't know but those are some of Nintendo's iconic characters. Nintendo is pretty good at pleasing its fans so I am sure more than a few people will be returning from SSBM, and some fun new additions.

I think we will see the same characters as Melle with some aditions. Captain Olimar with Pikmins and Kid Icarus are my guesses

Will characters be changed? Maybe, but i dont think so. Kirby was changed because he was too broken in his n64 version.

I hope Roy Stays the same. Fire Emblem! :)

What he means is that the character's moves and stats may change. New moves with new button combo's (such as the ones added in SSBM) could make old characters a lot better or worse.

Doesn't the whole PSP connecting to PS3 seem a lot like GBA to GC connectivity? We all know how that turned out...

yeah it definitely does. But sony does have the wireless advantage so there will be no need to buy a new cord to hook the two up. Using a portable system as a controller is a great idea but game developers just don't seem to know what to do with it. There were only a couple of games that really used the GBA to GC connectivity real well (Zelda: Four Swords and Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles) and those games were some of the best multiplayer games from last year. Since Nintendo has already tried the technology, I think they'll come out with better games using the DS to Revolution connectivity, and the touch screen and microphone on the DS can allow for some more interesting gameplay innovations.
