View Full Version : Trading?

Ok, I know I haven't traded on here in a long, long time, but.... Did something change when I was away?

Example 1:

Person X puts their list up. Places *s to indicate priority over other figures they are looking for. Person Y offers one of the * figures and Person X ends up stating that "they like their figures more than the ones you've offered". Huh? Did I miss something? If Person X didn't want those figures in a trade, why did they even bother putting it as a priority (happened with 2 trade proposals).

Example 2:

Person X has an expensive piece. Gets multiple trade offers from People Y that is either half or lower of value.

Now I realize, I'm a pretty lazy guy and I really don't want to go through the hassle of putting figures up on Ebay, but when we're talking about $100 difference in value....

Sorry, had to vent. This place used to be really great for trading figures. Now it seems like everyone's just cutthroat. :(

People are nothing if not fickle. I remember when someone REALLY wanted an Alex Summers LE, so I offered him mine for something of his, and I even offered another piece or two (can't remember what). He responded saying he didn't want Alex, and thus he didn't want the trade at all. Learn to deal with it and you will be able to rise above it and come out where you want to.

To be fair, though... I've done my fair share of idiot moves on the trade forum... So I'm not saying I'm perfect.... just the luck of the draw and the mood people are in, I guess...

lol, nah I'm not going to worry about it to be honest. Just local trades and ebay from here on out. It's the only fair way of doing it. :)

I didn't mean it if I came across cutthroat :disappoin
I was just trying to start negotiations with my offer (like I put at the bottom of it), but you didn't respond. I'm not sure of market value on things, I just started out with what I thought was a good start

I wasn't targeting any one person. Trust me, there were a lot of offers between here and the Wizkids site. At least you awknowledged it. Some of the offers came from people that honestly should know better and know what the value is. They just opted to lowball by a considerable margin is all. :)

I think the important part to learn from all this is to know what you want and what you are willing to give up BEFORE you actually post a thread.

I like the guys who go to the trouble to make up a list, then at the bottom, say "I prob won't trade x piece anyway..." WWWHHHHAAAATTTTTT???

That's easily translated

"I'm hoping some schmuck offers Galactus, Dark Pheonix, AND their whole collection, minus their paramedics for that one fig."

that is frustrating. why even put it on your list, if you don't want to part with it? Most people will see that and dismiss the piece, not go "OMG!! He doesn't want to trade it, I must offer everything!", if that's their intent.

Well, I have put figures on my trade list that I'm not 100% sure I'm willing to part with, but with the idea of "Offer me this figure that I've stated I wanted more than anything else out of the set and then take your pick from these figures."

For example, I have a Teth Adam figure that I like, but if someone offered me say Spiderman 2099 and the new unique Wolverine from FF for him, I'd say "see yah!" to TA.

I like the traders that are too lazy to post a list in the forum.

They just post a link to a list.

After a half dozen of those, I just decided that life is too short to shop with them.

Thorgrin, I couldn't agree with you more about your frustrations. I personally think the change in the trade forum is because is that since Mutant Mayhem nobody is really sure what the value of their stuff is. LEs used to be a very tradable commodity. Now, who knows what they're worth week to week. Super Rares and Purple Uniques vary from person to person and site to site. MM was flooded then Legacy was shorted. The uncertainy here is not helping the overall trade community make deals with confidence. Plus, with restrictions a lot of the older figs became worth less. So this factors in here because one person may value a piece highly beacuse they traded/paid heavily for it and can't let that go, while another simply goes to ebay and sees what they cost now. It is an uncertain time for clix players.

How long do you wait after sending an offer before maybe sending a follow-up? If 3-4 days go by do you just assume they are rejecting your offer?

I would hope that even if they don't like the offer maybe they'll make a counter or just say thanks but I'm not interested.
