I recently returned from an advanced screening of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". To sum it up, it was a good movie. Tim Burton's unique quirkey twist on Roald Dahl's classic novel with Johnny Depp's acting skills thrown in the mix to make it a sweet (pun intended) movie-going experince.
Tim Burton has always been a favorite director of mine and this zany flick confirms it. The characters are still true to the novel, but after being "Burtonized" they are more relevant to modern day life and you can see these characters existing in the world.
(Mild Spoilers)
The film would be nothing without it's leading actor, Johnny Depp. His performance (Which my dad described as "Mr. Rogers on acid") showed a man who all believed to be a genius, but inside he was an insecure child who could only be happy by surrounding himself with candy.
Full of flashbacks, special effects andmusical numbers, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a fun movie. Go see it in theatres.
