View Full Version : The biggest pet peeve for traders!

My biggest complaint about is when you send somebody an offer and they don't even have the respect enought to respond back with the simpe phrase "pass, thanks though".

man that bugs me.

what's your biggest pet peeve?

Biggest pet peeve - those with no feedback wanting to simulsend. If you have no feedback (or very little), expect to send first!

I hate it when people answer your thread with:

hi, I'm interested in ????????, and I have the following:

Can we work something out?

WTF?

I like people who make offers:

I'm interested in ???????????, I have ?????? off of your needs list:

Open ended offers stink. You can barter if you want to, but there has to be something to barter with.

Not to mention, people value figures differently, so in that list of haves, it can create the sense that one person is trying to get one over on the other, when they reply.

I would agree with you on this. The only time I give an open ended offer, it is something like "I have XXXX, for your XXXX. I would also offer more (see my trade link)." My thought has always been if you are responding to someone's trade thread, you should make the first offer. People are afraid of making the first offer because they lose some kind of "advantage."

What irritates me is when I send first, since my feedback was knocked off when the switchover came, and I don't hear anything from the guy I'm dealing with.

I just posted a thread and all people ever say is I want ur Doom and Betsy Braddock and I have Thanos....wtf.

ouch..

That's why I still have the old link in my sig.. ;)

My pet peeve, is that often times when I trade, I'm expected to trade handsomly for what I want, but when I ahve something that people want they tend not to trade me quite so well for it.

Of course this isn't in every case.. :)

I would agree with this and I used to try and do thos all the time but since the 100 message limit I dont respond as often and definelty not if they deal is rridicoulous bc with all the deals I work on I have to emoty my boxes too often bc I never seem to get a straighttforward eal I always have to haggle and negotiate

My peeeve is with people leaving the game when they sell they only accept money orders and even though they have a good raiting if they dont live up to their end what is the worst that will happen a bad raiting after they leave the game is nothing.

I always have really good deals here, all kind (just 1 or another time rip off but), all kind, the only bad think is when I receive damage figs, I remember one guy who send me figs in a yellow flat paper!, not a box, a paper. that was really bad.

Here's another one.

I've got a Brother Blood I really wanna trade off. So I go looking in threads. People do want him, but when I PM and ask, it's all "No, I don't wanna trade anything on my haves list for him."

?!?!?!?!?!?

People that offer trades definitively in thier own favor. When you counter offer reasonably, they get offended.

Trader: "Your SR this and Unique for my Unique that no one but you wants."
Me: "How about just U for U? Still in your favor, IMHO"
Trader: "No way man, just forget it, I am not looking for a rip off."
Me: "Ok, thanks for looking."
Trader: "Yeah, whatever."

Sheesh, you asked. :)

Is it really that bad to do open ended trades?

Alot of the time I'll have a couple of the figures the other person wants, but I'm really only looking for one of his. So I'll see which one he wants the most and trade that.

Something like:

I have:
Baron Zemo
LE Trigon's Daughter
LE Hector Hall

Iwant:
LE Eddie Nashton

Obviously I don't want to trade all three for one LE. (Unless Eddie Nashton is worth those three, I was just looking at the Riddler sitting on my desk)

I think it's more courteous than anything.

I'm gonna have to agree with TMNT99 on this. I hate not hearing back either way on offers I make. A close second is people who make deals and say they are going to send stuff but then they don't and then don't respond to your PM's (I can see you're online, dude).

the stupidest thing is when people go,

have
xxx
xxx
xx
xxx

also have KC Supes (not for trade)

wtf... if it's not for trade don't list it.

I dont like open ended trades either. If I post my haves and wants, do not send me a pm saying, "here's what I have, make me an offer".

I posted. You are replying to me. Send me an actual offer.

I hate it when guys go "I have this, I'm looking for this" and you offer what they want for it, but then they pull the "no thanks, I know he's worth more than what you're offering."

What the hell? At least say "I want this unique and at least 3 nons for this figure" or another one I always love:

"I'm willing to trade this unique for nons. Make an offer please," and then you offer enough nons that are twice TWICE the value of the one unique, then they go "No, I don't need, THOSE nons" even though they have them on their want list.

I dont do that much in trades, compared to some people here. So far the most annoying thing for me personally is not even being replied back to.

I will tell you something funny. Few months before I started trading online. I was leary about it due to me hearing stories about people getting conned. Well to continue. Someone used my name that they had traded with me. The guy trading decided to ask me about the trade. The guy was shocked that I hadnt traded with anyone on HCRealms. He was more then happy to not lose those Figures he was almost conned out of.

Just one of those things about HCRealms that you will have a hard time forgetting.

Here's another favorite of mine:

"I'll trade you X figure for either figure A or figure B (A=Paracite, B=KC Superman)."
They'll never take the trade for figure A so why do they offer?

Ultimate2099
07/18/2005, 17:31
I just hate when traders think they have something worth more than it is. I'm not talking about KC Supes or Thor, I can understand people try to get as much as possible out of the figs that almost everyone wants. But when I see Nick Fury or SuperSkrull or Vampire Batman (all decent medium level uniques) and the only thing they want is Thor or Superman. Sometimes I really have to resist the urge to post a reply pointing out that they are being ridiculous and aren't gonna get any offers. But that's just me I suppose.

ok, newest pet peeve.

do people not know that mutant mayhem Le's are not on the same level as other LE's. i mean, some people think that 4 mayhem le's would be worth an ultiamte thor.

MUTANT MAYHEM le's are the lowest level LE's ever. they are not worth most uniques.

rant over

My biggest pet peeve?

The post office. Over the last week, they've lost two of my incoming packages. Once, they mistook my residential address for a wholesale company named ACM and just plain lost the other one...currently tracking it (thank you DC numbers).

Here is a pet peeve for me. I havent done this trading stuff nearly as much as you guys have. I know that. I have however made ten trades on HCRealms and have a 3 feedback. I get emails thanking me for their stuff and how great it is that they got it, but they never leave feedback for it here! WHICH CONSTANTLY MAKES ME THE "NEW GUY" AND IS AGGRAVATING AS HELL!!!!!!

My biggest peeve is agreeing on a deal with someone, exchanging address and then come to find out they decide to sell/trade with someone else who gives them a better deal. I find this is happening a lot with newer traders.

Just 1 pet peeve?? How about a bushel!

We definately hear what you are all saying, and we have been there ourselves.

Let`s add:
1) You send first because you are a foreign country. (Despite the fact that we may have more feedback, and have been here awhile).
2) People who can`t get over the fact that we talk in plural form. (We are a married couple people- get over it)
3) Lack of counter-proposal. The whole idea of a trade forum is to work a deal (Sometimes possible, sometimes negotiating is part of the process) If you expect X figure for x figure just say so in your thread.
4) People who say they are`"entertaining offers", that don`t "need" anything.
5) People who expect cash or money order for purchases. Paypal does offer protection- especially for those of us who are "foreign".
6) Players who look down on us collectors- trying to reinforce things like "this is a kick BUTT figure, etc. We collect based on sculpt- 1 of each period. Extras we acquire are for future trades or sales.
7) The new feedback system- Perhaps not enough people used the good and bad trader threads(from the previous system), but the new "ebay-like" system is more likely going to lead to non-feedback then negatives- lest you receive one in return.

Thanks for letting us vent... perhaps more will come to mind later- till then
Happy trading and feel free to check our journal

I hear you. I have an even bigger pet peeve that I had quite a few successful trades, with only one go south, prior to the new system and many of those folks either can't recall what we traded or otherwise don't bother with the new system, which is a pain.

When people make a trade thread and then say "see my thread in my sig or in this link." Man cant they just copy and paste.

Ok, How about

when you and someone else agree to a trade and send information(address etc...) and the next pm you get from them is "sorry i found another offer for that figure"

it drives me insane

Pet peeve #1: People who post trade threads with have/wants lists so long that it takes you a half hour to read through them. Usually, when I see something of that sort I don't even bother.

Pet peeve #2: People who "entertain offers" and leave interested parties waiting for a week before responding, or who make a deal and don't get back to everyone else that the figure is no longer available.

Pet peeve #3: Traders who blatantly rip off less experienced parties ("Traded my Parasite for some sucker's KC Supes") and then post a thread bragging about the great deal that they made.

That's about it for now.

Pete and I are a married couple, and as far as I can recall, only one person has ever commented on the use of plurals...but it's obvious by our username that we are two people.

I also dislike it when traders say that "since I don't *need* anything, the trade will have to be in my favor". Pete and I don't "need" anything either, as all our sets are complete (except for FF LEs), but guess what.....we trade for the fun of it. Recently I traded off large amounts of FF nons, for LEs we already have. One LE in particular was for one of Pete's players, and the others can always be used for extra prize support. I have been known to trade even if it's in the other party's favor, and even send people nons or cards for nothing except to help them out.

I wish that our old feedback would have at least remained visible. I have a link in our sig line to our old good trader thread, but alas, it is gone. (Guess I'll have to change it now) We had over 120 good trades, but less than half of those people have rated us using the new system. I understand that those old good trader/bad trader threads were probably purged to make room on the site, but there are still old threads hanging around from a couple of years ago that probably could have been purged and not missed in the least. :(

My last peeve is when the other party doesn't reply. A simple "no thanks" will do.

Whoops, just thought of another one. This seldom happens to me, but there is no reason to be nasty or condescending if you don't like an offer. If you are not interested, again, a simple "no thanks" will do.

I feel like an ### when this happens on my part. I get so many PM's. I tend to accidentally forget to respond to everyone who pm'd me. It's not out of disrespect or anything just slowness on my part..:S
