View Full Version : HELP! Rules for receiving broken figures?
Ok, I made a trade for a high end SR (cough cough, sue storm) for Unique Gladiator a lower level U and two Vets. He had to send first cuz he had basically no feedback.
he sent the figs in one of those flimsy check boxes.
and the gladiator was broken.
what's the common practice for receiving broken figures?
i don't want to trade my lovely sue for a broken figure.
but i aslo don't feel i should fork over the 1.50 to send the figs back. it's not my fault that the packaging was poor.
what is the normal practice in such an event?

This is a tough call. The first thing you should do is contact the person that sent you the pieces and explain the situation(if you haven't already done that).
If they don't seem agreeable to fixing the situation you'll have to choose between keeping the broken pieces or mailing them back at your expense. I personally think shelling out $1.50 for shipping is a much better option than keeping a broken piece.
no one has ever had this happen?
no one had advice?
thanks, do i leave bad feedback if i have to fork out for the shipping costs? since now i'm out money and other possible trades

It's happened to me (thought the arse shipped a flyer in a padded envelope). I told him it happened he offered to send be a new one when he got one. In the end I fixed the piece and never traded with him again. As for the feedback, you always have to worry about the retaliation bad feed back. That's one of the problems I have with this system.

I wouldn't send them back or leave bad feedback untill talking to the other trader. Tell him that the piece was broken due to poor packing and you want to know how he would like to resolve the situation. Tell him he can either give you a replacement piece or you will ship the original pieces back at his expense. Your follow up actions will be based on how accomodating he is.
ok, sounds like some sound advice. i'll keep trying to contact him.

I just had this happen with a trader, but on the end where apparently a piece I sent him was broken. To my knowledge the piece wasn't sent out in that state, so it must have happened in transit. He sent me a message letting me know and I offered to replace it if he sent back the broken portion of the figure. I told him once I received the piece I would send out the replacement with a few bucks to cover shipping.
I've never had this kind of experience before, so I'm all about making things right. I would imagine it would change things if the person didn't have another U Gladiator to replace it though. However, the one I'm using to replace is out of my personal collection, so in my opinion this other guy should be doing anything he can to make it right by you.
good to know. my only cause of concern is that he only has 2 good feedback.

Hey...2 good is better than 0 or negative. ;)
Hopefully everything will work out for you.
I have had this happen twice.
Once with a Skrull LE, so I just cut the figure off a spare Rookie and stuck it on. The Seller refunded me half the price I paid.
Second time was with an Absorbing Man. Seller send out a broken figure which he said he would refund if I returned, but International postage would have been the same as buying the figure at the local shop. I did not send back and left no feedback.
As people have said, contact the other person and see what they say. State your requirements and see what they say. How is the Gladiator broken?

I would personally put insurance on them in the trade if I was worried about it as well as a d/c.
However on ebay the seller isn't responsible to broken figures in transit. I mean it's a tough call.
It's not the senders fault it got broken nor the reciever. It gets even trickier when the fig is past 20 bucks in price.
I don't know what I would do in that situation.
