Hey all,

Lately while dealing with the poor traders and "rippers" I find that many of the issues are with trades that I would call TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE trades. These trade involve someone offering High standard figures for Sub to low standard figures and then running away. Please be aware that some trades might be ways to get you to pawn off your figures for some good swag. Just be careful and be wary.

AN EXAMPLE OF THIS TYPE OF TRADE

I will use two figures that I am currently after for this example

PM to User-Sumtr8r

I will give you Red Robin unique and FF Wolverine for your Harvey Dent LE and Calypso Ezili, please I really need these figures for set let's trade. :)

In this case two higher class figures are being offered for two Rare, but lower class le's. Still it is quite high for this type of LE.

ANOTHER EXAMPLE (CLASSIC TGTBT)

I will trade your Shazam unique, Silver Surfer, Invisible WOman convention LE and Nova LE for my KC superman and Nimrod.

This is a situation that would be an awesome type of trade, but still this person wants 4 figures to your two. Yes it is a near even trade based on rarity, but how much are you actually giving up. Am I telling you not to do this type of trade, not at all. I am telling you to be careful.

Just please use common sense. Too good to be true trades are ones that make you go WOW that is AWESOME. Just be aware of a persons trader rating and if you feel uncomfortable with a trade don't do it. Remember I am always available to help out with a trade situation and with decision making process (I do not have 106 good trades for nothing you know). I am more than willing to help on most issues, feel free to use me.

Not to undermine this thread but I was recently offered an Irene Adler for SR Ben Grimm. I assumed it was one of these but I explained that his offer was too good and offered more. He was happy to send first. With the inclusion of a Connor Kent & Bishop of XSE Irene was mine! Happy ending (not that way you sicko's!).

Let me also throw in the suggestion of having the interested party send first. Usually if it's a dire situation for them, they really want the figure, and are making the offer to you in the first place, they shouldn't have a problem sending first. If they do, then it was probably too good to be true for a reason. ;)

If someone is willing to send first on a good trade like one of the examples than that is great and you know you should be safe. The examples I gave are in no way set in stone ways to find rippers. The more we expose people like this they will keep popping up and coming up with more creative ways to play their games.

Yeah this was one of this pieces I figured I'd never get because I wasn't willing to give much up for her. I really didn't have to give anything up for her so I'm happy. :)

Yea, i got a trade offer for my nova-le and the offer was:

Frank Gunzer
Dr. Leonard Samson
Betsy Braddok
Felicia Hady
Annihilus
Trigon's Daughter
Lobster Johnson-LE

now, obviously this sounds too good to be true. so i required the sender to send first, and didn't hold my breat. but he sure did come through, and his package is being sent saturday. so you never know. just make sure to get them to send first.

Wizkids should really step in and stop all trading. It hurts the game. The only place a dedicated player should get his figures is in clix brick packs from their local B&M. ;)

I don't think that they can stop trading. But in general that would not be a great idea because there are players that buy 2-3 cases and have too much left over. While people like me who have kids really do not have the money to do things like that.

There will always be a secondary market out there. We just have to be careful when sending and trading.

Great addition. Why don't you just be more obvious in your sig line and then you wouldn't have to post the same rhetoric in every thread. :rolleyes:

i always try to watch out for things like that, but usually, someone with a high trader rating isnt gonna stiff anybody, really. any bad trader ratings, even one, bear a certain stigmata with them; if i was to deal with anybody that had even one bad trader rating, i'd probably ask politely for them to send first.

also, i too have gotten a "too good to be good" trade from here: 5 nons for a KC Batman.

but it's good to give us the heads up, rock810. i appreciate that you're here for us.

Ok everyone. Recent activities have caused some problems and lessons are being learned. If someone offers you a KC SUPERMAN for a Mail away figure and has 0 feedback they are going to rip you off PLAIN AND SIMPLE. Please use common sense when trading.

Possible problem Rock. Tanis11 should have contacted you. I am getting similar info from darthfatty. It is, however, early in the process. Still, I would like to relate this publically through this thread without it's own header. In the odd case that this is a HUGE misunderstanding, I do not want to smear the name of a trader because of VERY poor communication. Anyone wanting to know more about this can PM me directly or check the thread. It should be relatively easy but not TOO obvious to find. Here it goes:

I won an auction at 8 PM Sunday for some decent AW uniques and nons. After the auction, on Monday, I was contacted saying I won. I am generally a fast shipper and often ship first out of courtesy and good will. I opted to do that this time. No sooner had I sent out a money order at 4 PM priority shipping did Tanis11 contact me asking if I really won. Apparently the seller PMed Tanis11 saying HE won the auction. I promptly added a request of winner confirmation to the thread to make public that I was named the auction 'winner'. Then I get a PM from darthfatty saying the same thing Tanis11 said - "I was told I was the highest bidder." Now I have a money order on the way and the figures are supposedly being offered to three different people. Additionally, two people posted on the same thread regarding sour practices of sending delays. The seller has 6 referrals all positive from people that I trust.

Short of kicking myself in the shorts and quitting HCRealms pending a package that may never come, is there any course of action that I may take? Yes, it was a TGTBT auction. I was a sucker thinking, "I would honestly do the same thing if I had extra's (or was desperate) and needed cash back for Christmas." I am distraught and getting upset, especially with finals coming up. Any suggestions?

Rock810, maybe you can give me advice. I found someone in Australia who needs a Betsy Braddock LE & will trade me Indy UK figures for it BUT I don't know what # of Indy UK's would be equal trade value for it. I don't want to rip the guy off but I want to get a fair trade. Got any suggestions?

Apparently darth didn't pay. Darth's corespondence with me 'suggests' that he hasn't sent yet but I don't know for sure. I can't be sure if there are other peeople in a similar condition who simply haven't checked the thread yet either.

Still 1 hour to go until she is suppose to send the DC confirming her send.

You won't be able to check the validity of that DC # until later when USPS updates the tracking database. For example, I sent out a package to fatfinley & couldn't see the info on the date/time my package was accepted @ the post office until sometime in the evening when they run the update.

I know, but a DC# in hand at least means that something was sent. I don't even expect it to be valid for a day or so. Just so long as it registers as "received at" some time, then I'll be set at ease. But that still leaves possibly others without the figs, even if I DO get them. See? I just want a crumb at this point.

Not to show people how to commit fraud but I could go to the post office, take a DC slip & give you that #. You would have a # but you wouldn't find out that a package wasn't sent IF AND ONLY IF you didn't go on the USPS website to track the package's status. Therefore just getting a DC # isn't good enough to confirm shipment of a package.

I know this. Call it funky, I had a good feeling about the seller before I got involved. It seems like things are working out so, if things go sour again, at least a false DC is better than non. I'd rather have had it said that a DC was given to me and was false than not have one. A false one can stand as evidence. The absence of one cannot.

But I'm getting that good feeling back again. Maybe things can find a way of working out after all. ?

You never know... and I'll be the butt singing apologies if it does. :)

hmm.. well, it looks like the thread auction that I won "great chirstmas..." something or other was taken down. Can you do that? Kill a thread with no word?

It would appear that there is now no evidence of the trade in the first place. What's going on?

I was promised that the package would ship Monday night pending my payment out by 4 PM. It was out by 4:13 PM, so it deffered to the next day. I was told Tuesday that the package was sent out by noon and that the DC would be in my PM box by 5 PM Tuesday. No DC. At 12 noon on Wednesday I was then told that it had been e-mailed to me, since the realmer's PM apparently wasn't working. I was PMed this message. :cross-eye I have had my e-mail at yahoo up and logged in for the past 14 hours with nothing what-so-ever. The realmer has not logged in since 12 noon but somehow the thread is down. Additionally, I still don't have the promised DC by e-mail or PM. Good thing I'm not totally messed.

If the realmer in question wants to explain why the DC hasn't come in when I've received two messages saying it was on the way [suggesting that there was sufficient time to PM but not time to include the DC] I'm up for it. I think I'll start a thread about it, though. I can understand if some emergency kept the seller from posting or loggin on - I cannot understand how I can get promise after promise with nothing to show for it. I just hope she's okay... nothing health related, I mean. That would be terrible...

Bad communication or a stiff? I believe in the decency of humans... In this case? I honestly don't know yet... too much speculation. :) Like I said, a thread may be comming...

On a personal level, I would not trade a betsy for the UK stuff. The UK stuff is over valued based on rarity not playability. The only figures I have wooped but with were V Judge Fire, V stix and V nemesis. The UK piece are more of a show piece.
