Hi just curious if you guys take into account ebay references when deciding on whether or not to ship first?

I personally do not but I see several people requesting that you do(usually if theres is high).

Anybody can claim ebay references, however if you send a message to that ebayer via the ebay message system you can confirm their identity. So we always do that to verify if there is insufficient feedback here.
BTW- We are over 700 stars there (but different name ;)

I don't because the bottom line is that people are better protected on eBay than they are here. There is no electronic trail to be followed here it’s mostly your word against theirs. If their feedback is significantly lower then mine I ask then to ship first or lose the trade.

I also don't take into account other websites references (ebay included). Almost all of us earned our stripes having to send first the first 4-5 times to establish ourselves. Someone quoting their 900 ebay references with zero references here, I look elsewhere if they cannot realise the typical rules followed here and many other forum style websites. Send first, or do not send at all.

i'm relatively new to the site, but i've already found good people to trade with on here. i'll admit i was a little scared the first couple times when i sent first, but if you really want that piece, you'll do it. as long as you're careful about picking who to trade with, you should have no problems.

being some one who used to have an ebay store, i can tell you that most people could really care less about your ebay feedback, whether they feel like checking up on you or not. check people's good trade threads, and their feedback. if you don't feel comfortable, say so. sometimes you'll pass up something good and kick yourself for it. sometimes you'll look in the trade forums and see that persons name at the top of a very angry looking thread.

also, if asked to send first, keep good communication going, and use some sort of tracking. for international stuff, fedex and ups are a little easier to get tracking info for less than $20. anyways, hope some of this helps.

No, I think Ebay referenaces are better left for Ebay transactions. You are under different rules, and different protections there than here. Here' it's a good faith type of thing. I also don't accept referances from any other site.

I just saw this over on Vs Realms yesterday...
I've been an Ebayer for awhile now, but I'd say no to Ebay refs in a heartbeat. If you want to be involved in this community, then put in the effort and time. If you just want a quick trade or two, then either send first or go back to Ebay. May sound harsh, but that's what married life does to you...

As an "oldster" on the board with over 70 trades under the first system, 100 on the second, and now 30+ on this new system. I DO NOT accept ebay references unless I have dealt with them on ebay first for all the reasons illustrated above.
