hey guys, wanting some advice. I was poking around on ebay and came across some folks selling complete sets of series like Transformers G1. Like, all 98 episodes in one big collection. the auctions state that they are in the original english with chinese subtitles, and they're going for a rather good price. just wondering if anyone has picked these up and if they are worth it.

These are most likely bootleg copies from China. If you buy them, you are supporting piracy. So it's really your choice if you want the nostalgia at a cheap and illegal rate, or if you can wait for them to be released by the actual license holders.

I tend to agree. Just wait until the real versions come out, that way the people who have legal rights to them get the money they are owed. Plus, I'm sure you'll get cool extras then that you can't get on the bootleg versions.

It's also very likely that they're VCDs and not DVDs. Some DVD players can handle them, but not many. You're better off playing it safe, as you're not exactly going to be able to return them if they don't work in your machine...

The actual license holders _have_ already put these out in DVD box sets via "Rhino Entertainment". They're pretty good quality and include some nice extras like film-cells - though I hate the way they divided some of the seasons - and do include foreign subtitles, so these might be what the seller has up for auction. I know the first two seasons of GI Joe have been put out and I believe as of last year they were up to season 3 or 4 of Transformers (I still have to finish off my Transformers box sets - they're a bit pricier than I can usually justify).

This opens up the market to Canada and Japan, which gives them a lot more area to sell. Check the ebay auction listing (though I'm certain that the complete GI Joe series is not what Rhino released). Pay attention to region coding and the like.

Anyone know if there is Voltron on DVD?
