A while back, i was in the process of making a trade for a KC Superman. My offer was a Ultimates Thor, Ultimates Ironman and Black suit Spidey. I thought the offer was fair. I know i was trading up so i didn't mind trading in his favor. he responded that it wasn't enough because KC supes had sentimental value (he won some tourneys with it i guess) so in order for him to trade it i needed to up my offer even more. wth?!? So he won with it, does it make it more valuable? Never bothered with the guy after that.
That's absolutely ridiculous.
Thor alone should have been enough, IMO. At the most throw in a second Unique, but nothing in the range of Iron Man.
And if he's so sentimental about the piece, he should just keep it.
Shift tactics. Tell him you finally understand, so you're now offering Ma Hunkle and a Thug instead of the earlier trade because they won special places in your heart by delivering the killing blows to a KC Superman and a Sentinel, respectively. Assure him it's breaking your heart as you recall opponents banging their foreheads on the table across from you, but you're willing to make the sacrifice in the name of a sentimentally equitable trade.

That's a load of BS. You're giving him 2 high end Uniques, that ALONE should have been enough. Miraclo is right, Thor should have been enough, and MAYBE Spidey. But you shouldn't have to do all three.
SENTIMENTAL VALUE?!?!?
*Pfft*
If it had sentimental value to him he would NEVER trade it.
He's either lying or just an idiot. You did the right thing by not trading with him.

I disagree with evryone on this, I often have sentimental value attached to figures but I'm willing to trade when I could tell someone really wants them. The added thug figure with a story all its own would tip the scales for me but I would appreciate it if the story wasn't a lie. He PROBABLY is just trying to get more out of you (and you HAVE offered him plenty) but he may actually be holding out becuase the emotional trade off doesn't feel quite right. I suggest asking him what figures he wants, if he gets this attached he may be willing to trade for UNique Captain AMerica and Cyclops from Infinity Challange becuase he's always wanted them. Remember these clicks don't ACTUALLY have any value except for what we give them.

Good for you...
Sounds like a load of garbage to me , this guy was just taking advantage of your need . I've heard that story before myself and I just tell them they need to keep it then . They finally come back down to earth when they see that that story isn't getting them anything extra . If this guy wants to go that road , I've got a Franklin Richards that took out a Ultimates Thor once , " It means so much to me ( Whine - Whine ) but , I'll part with it for his KC Superman ".

Considering the price of KC Supes is tanking right now it's probably best that the trade didn't go through. A blessing in disquise:)

I have sentimental attachment to my Vet Spoiler. She makes it on every friendly team I create, she's sort of a mascot. But that doesn't mean she's suddenly worth a horde of figures for someone else. If it's sentimental, KEEP IT. Don't even put it up as a maybe, because with some figures (certainly not mine, but the afforementioned Supes), people are definitely gonna try to trade for it, and it isn't fair for you to expect them to offer a huge amount over what it's worth because it was there when you lost your virginity, and that makes him special :p

Wow, you guys are harsh. I'm with mr-coffin. The guy doesn't HAVE to trade you anything. Give him a break. In fact, I'd call you a fool for offering so steeply in the first place. mr-coffin said it best with, "these clicks don't ACTUALLY have any value except for what we give them."
And, if you "need" KC Superman like edron says, check into Betty Ford.

Question, if the fig has that much sentimental value why is he looking to trade it to begin with?
There is no way I would ever trade my Carter Hall LE for anything as it's the first LE I ever won in a tourney, and I remember the tourney well. Thats sentimental value.

I can somewhat agree with the guy who has the sentimental KC Supes, i mean i have the KC set and it has endless amounts of sentimental value, would i trade it? sure but you're going to have to rip yourself off horribly to get them. He's getting a better deal value-wise but he's getting shafted sentimental wise which to some people is more important.

Sentimental value I can understand. My Martian Manhunter was a gift from my older brother, and I wouldn't dream of trading it. Offering up a sentimental piece in the first place, however, I find a little...off.

Yeah, don't buy any food from the store or gas or clothes, just tell the guy "They only have what value we give them"... :p
Seriously guys, you all live in western capitalist countries, prices are set by demand. The economy that keeps the country going is consumerism, buy buy buy. No he doesn't "need" KC Supes, but haven't you ever said "Oh I need to get gas"? You could have walked.
KC Supes has a certain value dictated by supply and demand, the guy with the supply was greedy, the demand went elsewhere, just economics.
