Its easy, just give a Rating from 1 (Jaws 4:The Revenge) to 10 (Jaws), and thats it. Course I'd love to have you all give reasons as to why you feel it deserves this Overall Rating, and more than encourage discussions with us all about them.

I liked it. There was a definite British feel to it and the actual quality of the film it was shot on seemed a little poor to me, but the story and execution were very good. A little slow-moving for my taste, but then again psychological horror movies kinda have to be. 8/10 from me.

Ah, The Omen. The first time I saw a dude get his head lopped off.

The Omen is a film that no doubt attempted to capitalize on the success of the Exorcist and perhaps a few other horror classics from the early and mid 70s. For it's time it had all the makings for a big hit...and it was...it also just happened to deserve it. The Omen has some very frightening moments. The Babysitter hanging herself being the most shocking and horrifying thing I saw at that point in my life. The Omen gave me a lot of nightmares when I was young. It is scary, suspenseful and smart (it follows the book of revelations with almost impeccable accuracy). It's cast is strong, Donner at the helm is a strong director and Jerry Goldsmith's soundtrack is absolutely flawless...one of the best horror soundtracks ever and you really have some competition in Halloween, The Exorcist and Susperia. Anyway, The Omen is among the best horror films ever made and like other films of it's ilk, it's sequels suck.

Rating: 9.1 (9.0 to simplify)

Ive gotta say, I couldnt have said it better myself.

One of my favorite all time horror films (along with Exorcist and Halloween). Great and very creepy story, very well directed and acted, and a nice suspenseful and possibly surprise ending to boot. Theres a reason parents today dont name their kids Damien anymore, and this is definately why.

The before mentioned nanny hanging was very shocking, but even moreso to me was the classic David Warner beheading (especially since I had seen this on regular TV first (which this seen was cut down a bit), and then saw it on cable (uncut) and it shocked the hell out of me)

Excellent horror movie to me, and a true classic of the genre in my eyes.

Overall Rating - 9 / 10

for me is one of themore beautis erotic movies of all times. It's not porn is a movie of art, really.

I concur, the erotic genre has a sometimes undeserved stigma.

How bout some other horror movies for this? In celebration of the Halloween season! I think I've addressed the Exorcist recenly on another thread but there are many others.

i can't vote on omen.... never seen it.
too many times i've tried to watch a "scariest movie of all time" only to be dissapointed.

when you review poltergeist... then we're talking... not the scariest of all time by any means... but an extremely good movie.

DTM

Ive gotta agree with you jedah, Poltergeist (even though its a bit kid friendly for a horror film) is one of my favorites, and probably my favorite Haunted House movie ever. Great pick.

Id strongly recommend The Omen though. Dont go into it with the hype that its the scariest movie of all time, and I think youll really enjoy it. It really is a classic of the genre.

The Omen. The comments about the British feel are right on. There is a subtle eerieness to the entire movie, like somethings not quite right.... maybe it was the acting, the scenes, scenery, or the music but it was definitely worth a watch. it didn't "scare" me but it was definitely memorable. Now i want to go rent it......

On a funny note;
One guy I went to school with was named Damien and he was close to the character in Damien II's age so people would always say "Damien, oh oh Damien oh oh" when they wanted to annoy him...... except 11 year olds with their pre-pubescent voices trying to imitate Opera singers was pretty funny.... in retrospect. I hope that guy didn't turn into a serial killer or form his own cult or something.......

Pretty creepy movie in a few parts. The ending was very interesting. Go Gregory Peck go!

I haven't been on Realms for a while, and just now found this thread. I first saw the Omen when I was in grammar school, and there were some pretty scary scenes. I haven't seen it in several years, but some scenes that come to mind are: when the photographer tells Mr. Thorne that he notices a shadow across people in photos that are going to die, and Thorne says it is not his problem, and the photographer tells him it is, and shows a photo where he caught his own image in a mirror, with a shadow on it (I wouldn't be that calm if I was him!), the scene where the priest (? I think) gets impaled by the lightning rod, the scene where the mother is in the hospital and changing out of her negligee, and sees the new nanny coming for her through the material, the scene where Thorne goes to the cemetery and finds jackal bones in the grave.........and of course the scenes that were mentioned before with the babysitter hanging herself and the photographer getting beheaded.

Creepy in the dramatic way, not in the (insert annoyingly loud sound effect) BOO! way.

I think the best moment was finding the buried jackal thingy and how creepy it felt.

As a matter of fact, so many people died in a way that left me going..."Okay, ya, that was going to be a tough one to get out of"...

And the kid was beyond creepy.

After seeing this film as a kid I was scared to be alone! It's very psychological and the kind of movie I'd rather watch with somebody else rather than on my own. I give it 9 out of 10, the second one was great too.

Very creepy. Classic Horror Film.

It first came out when I was in grammer school, so I wasn't allowed to see the movie...but I was allowed to read the book. :classic:

BTW, the priest was Patrick Troughton...Otherwise known as the 2nd Dr. Who.

Any word on the sequel?

Any word on the sequel?

By sequel, do you mean the remake that coming up in a week or so, or the actual Omen 2 that followed this film back in the 70s?

batfink
05/31/2006, 14:47
Sorry, I meant the one coming out next week. I think Julia Stiles in the Lee Remick role will be interesting. Defenately something different for her.

Omen 2 was bad. Omen 3 was terrible.

**SPOLIERS***

Sam Neil spends the entire movie killing babies who *might* grow up to be Jesus Christ, and at the end, Jesus just appears. "Here I Am", roll credits.

I dunno about Julia Stiles. All I think of when I see her is "Save the Last Dance" and "10 things I hate about you". I like her, but somehow I don't think she's quite Mrs. Thorne material. Maybe someone a little older...such as Rachel Weisz?

I agree with that actually. Not sure why they feel the need to put much younger actors into these roles, as theyre doing with the Omen remake and did with the Amittyville Horror remake (which all in all I enjoyed actually) Im not saying that needed to be Gregory Pecks age, but maybe looking out of their 20s for the parents of Damien would have been good for me. Still looking forward to seeing it, as the original is one of my all time favorite horror films, a classic in just about every way. (and still one of the creepiest musical scores in film)

Drunky

A true classic to me. Don't have so much more to say than what was previously said, I like the British feel too, the music is perfect for the movie, good shocking scenes and a suspense that goes up and up for the whole movie, etc... I'd like to see recent movies "creepy in a psychological way" (like clixer11 said), but I don't find any that satisfies me... Also, batfink is absolutely right about the sequels :ermm:. At last, just for fun, one of my cousin is named Damien because of that movie (and my uncle made me swear not to tell him :p).
9/10

Like I said, I'll rate all movies that I saw and that you reviewed so I'll keep on unearthing old ones . At least it allows other people to rate 'em sometimes (I think it happened once or twice on older RTM I unearthed). BTW keep on the good work with these threads, once again they're great.

P.S.: And thanks for increasing my vocabulary too, didn't know "unearth" yet :p.

I give this an 8 out of 10. It's very intense, very suspenseful, very evil. A quality scary movie that doesn't insult your intelligence.

My wife gives this a 666! That translates to a 7 out of 10.

Not sure which Omen is refered to here, but I've seen them both. Honestly, the remake was very well done and the original was excellent as well. Haven't seen them in a while and I'm going off memory, but I think I'll give them both 9 out of 10.
