BTTF is the second greatest time travel movie ever (1st being Bill and Ted's). It has two great actors, Fox and Lloyd, some good sequels and everything turns out for the better in the end.
Dumas' rating: 8/10

Humor, suspense, comedy, an original and detailed story, fun characters and some pretty decent sci-fi. Personally, it's got a lot of elements that tend to rub me the wrong way. I can't stand Michael J. Fox, Crispin Glover frightens me and makes me feel uncomfortable while Christopher Lloyd is creepy and to me not really all that watchable...the movie still manages to be solid entertainment to me. I've seen it more times than I'd like to admit and I can't often recall when I was watching it and said "man I have to turn this stupid movie off." That has to count for something, right?
My rating: 7.5
great movie... one of the few to spawn a great sequel.
managed to stay good all the way thru the trilogy.
very quotable.
it's in my collection... so that has to count for something right?
my rating 8

Thats one of my favorite movies! One of MJ's best, though he was best on Spin City. Great storytelling and the past always looked pretty authentic.

As much as the 80s elements of the "present" date it, I enjoy watching Back to the Future whenever I can find it on TV. Michael J Fox was never a favorite of mine, but he grew on me a little because of this movie, and Christopher Lloyd is as brilliant as any other time he's not playing a Klingon. It always comes off as just a bit hokey to me, but there's nothing really wrong with it. 7.5/10

I love the Back to the Future series! They're all classics.
I give it a 9.
Back to the Future is my favorite "Time Travel" movie
9.5
Ive gotta say BTTF is one of my favorite 80s films of all time. It really had very little, if anything, wrong with it in my eyes, and was just plain LOADS of fun to watch. The sequels werent as good to me, and were basically complete rehashes of the first (though I still do believe them to be very fun and enjoyable films as well). The 50s look was incredibly authentic, the score from Alan Silvestri added loads to the film, and alike alot of you I have No Problems with Micheal J Fox or Christopher Lloyd. And who didnt cheer in their hearts (or out load) when McFly Sr. finally KOed Biff, and then took Lorraine for his own? Great film to me, very little wrong that I could see personally, so Im going for go for a 9 / 10 (Very Close to getting a 9.5 from me really)
Hey, who noticed that the Twin Pines Mall from the beginning turned into the Lone Pines Mall at the end after Marty ran over one of the Pine Trees in the past? :)

I love the Back to the Future series! They're all classics.
I give it a 9.
I'll let that stand and add a bit;
There did not need to be a sequel(s). The first is good hollywood stuff but that second one was fantastic. Everytime i watch it I'm fascinated by the synchronicity of it all.
I always thought #3 was kinda hokey but neat in it's own way. I find Christopher Lloyds character annoying in large doses.

Funny movie with an interesting time travel story. Christopher Llyod's Dr. Brown is one of the classic characters in film, unless you are a snooty movie fan elitist. However I'm going to ding it two points because it was kinda slow in the beginning.
8/10
I agree that Dr. Brown is a great character. I'm not a big Michael Fox fan, but he was definitely the right actor to play Marty.
I'll give it a 9.
Great film, it was a lot of fun but also with a serious element of Marty having to fix things up, all the complicated stuff gets fixed up by the end of the film and everyone's happy. I really didn't feel there was any need to make any sequels to this film, it was a fun ride and covered all the time paradox things, and had a nice ending that left you thinking about the possibilities. Still, this is a great movie and I'd score it 9 out of 10.

I never understood the love affair with most people and this movie. I don't know if it's because I just didn't "get it" and everyone else did...or if I just never cared for Michael J. Fox. In all the movies I've seen him in, only one stood out to me: The Frighteners. Stood out in a good sense. Every other movie I've seen Mr. Fox in has bored me beyond belief. Back to the Future is no exception.
The plot is thin and it's been done before (and better). The effects are terrible, even for the time. The acting is bad. The jokes are unfunny. And, honestly, the only thing that anyone ever seems to bring up when the movie is mentioned is the stupid car.
Even for all my dislikes it does try. Sometimes too much but not so much that it becomes painful to me like Karate Kid. It's not something I'll ever purposely watch again, but I won't flee the room if someone else wants to watch it.

how you dare to say that about Michael Fox!
he do all right in his life, ecpet his autobioghaphy "Lucky man" and the only reason of why the his autobiograpy don't sell very well is because the words are fuzzy shakeit.

Sorry but watching Michael J. Fox movies is like having uneccessary surgery: painful and probably damaging.

George McFly is my hero... (yes, that's right, the dad)
Loved it when I was a kid, I watched it again like 4-5 months ago on French TV : unfunny :disappoin, stupid plot, bad movie to conclude. Has Michael J. Fox ever made one good movie (Casualties of War was OK, but no more)?
Christopher Lloyd managed to make me smile during it, but no more once again. So I'll give 2 points to the movie because of him, and that's being generous ...

WOW! I am truly in utter shock on this one (though thanks HEAPS for rating so many of these Rate The Movie threads) :) This is easily one of my favorite 80s films ever, and even today I could watch this one over and over again. It literally is timeless, and it was done so Amazingly well, beginning to end, I dont see how it could be rated a 2 (which is basically 1 step up from the worst, garbage EVER put on film, and to me this movie is anything but) A true sci fi, comedy Classic in my mind, bar none.
But hey, to different strokes and all that. :)
 Well, most of my friends (I mean the ones who truly love movies) don't understand it either, they all bought the DVD pack with the 3 BTTF (although they agree with me on the fact that the 3rd one is a mess...). It's just that, as I said in my post, last time I watched it I didn't like it. To tell the truth, I kinda have weird tastes regarding movies ... Let's say I'm abnormal (a guy who loves Tetsuo that much can't really be normal after all).
EDIT : I've not finished with the movie ratings, you could see stranger things these next days :p.

Christopher Lloyd is the ULTIMATE weird scientist I would watch movies where he plays these types of roles just for him !
he's awesome not just in BTTF but also as the Klingon captain (Search for Spock) but also as the villainess Judge (who framed Roger Rabbit).
that alone makes BTTF a 9.5 Michael J. Fox in his best role yet adds .25 for a 9.75/10.

To this day, it's still the only movie I've been to the theater more than 3 times to see.

Classic. A great comedy. An interesting time travel plot that doesn't get too over the top. It's extremely hard to do good time travel without it getting out of control (see Heroes).

My wife says that it's nostalgia x 2. Watching this movie makes you nostalgic about the 80s, and the movie is nostalgic about the 50s. She gives it a 7.5 out of 10.
I'm going to copy her and go with the 7.5 too. It still has a lot of good stuff, but some stuff is just to painfully cheesy to handle. I watched it recently with my kids...and had forgotten all about just how much foul language is peppered through it. It's funny how parenthood changes your perspective.
I love all of these films, they are so much fun.
