View Full Version : What figure won the ICONS Marquee at your venue
Well, with a full weekend of clicks and more to go. A few games played and some more games to be won. My question to all of you is who won your marquee? With so many big hitters I wonder did Superman dominate like 69 % of realmers thought, or did someone else prove the dominant piece?
At the two marquee's I went too I saw Darkseid really dominate game play. Granted I only saw 6 or so supermen pulled and they were only rookies. I think EVERYONE at my one venue pulled blackfire OR starfire and a Raven of some flavor. Still it was a good time and playing with the pieces was fun.
I took out Darksieds, Supermen, Wonder Women, Batman and Robin with 2 V Blackfires as my heavy hitters.
Then, I traded to get the Tim Drake to go with my Princess Koriand'r.....

We played A 300pt team and I won with
Wonder Woman R-84tps E-109pts
Batman E-102pts
POG Renee Montoya-5tps
300tps on he nose.
Kept E Batman and E Wonder Woman together at all times and they ruled the game. E Batman was the man, But they were no R or V Superman around to mess with him.
Thanks cgharless
Batman was the man He wreaked lots of havoc. Next I think was Raven being able to re-roll was a huge advantage

No V Superman pulls at our venue. I won with a E Superman, E Raven and a Maggie Sawyer. Beat a V Darkseid in the Finals with the help of Raven's PC, and used Maggie as a human sheild. Her Willpower was extremely handy in moving her to block LOS when needed. Superman is just a monster, can only imagine what the vet is like since I don't have him yet.

R Supes dominated my Marquee. Our Judge bought a few boosters for fun, and pulled V Supes, so good thing he couldn't play.
I pulled E supes, but he got thrashed by stealthed figures. Not having the Supes TA hurts him the most.
The most played figures were Blackfire and Cheetah.

I almost won with Vet Batman lost in the championship to a vet Darkseid team

I disbelieve all of those superman votes.
Considering how hard its been to pull him, I doubt that that many were pulled and from those pulled that that many dominated.
Rookie Superman won it at our venue. Veteran Blackfire made a good showing, and Raven was popular.
I won my marquee with Vet Batman, Vet Robin, and my MVP, Ra's Al-Ghul. Perplex goes a long way to hitting Supes' D. Not to mention all the outwit with Willpower. I beat two Vet Supes this way and one Brainiac. It was a lot of fun. I pulled a Terra as well, but she was a complete nonfactor and died shortly after every barrier she set up.
Batman did a lot of missing, but when he hit it was at a critical point.
The high point of the day came When Ra's rolled a crit hit, blades for 6, and off the building to the Flash. Full power to dead in one hit!!!!!!!
I just want to know if any Bizarro teams ruled the day at all!!!!!! Can't wait to read those stories!!!

a vet superman pulled home the win in my league but my team of lex luthor with a sidekicked rookie the joker came a close second and dominated most matches.

I saw A LOT of rookie superman's pulled. In fact, one poor guy pulled THREE rookie superman's. I am kind of disappointed as I saw more yellow in this set than I have EVER seen at a sealed event in my entire time of playing heroclix. At least the rookies are now formidable against other figures.
so far at 2 marquees ive seen 2 rookie supermen 4 experienced supermen and 2 vets

Supes was hard too pull at my venue too out of a full case only two were pulled one by me and the other by the judge A few people pulled both darkseid and wonderwoman vets but i was the only person who played that got all three ( but no uniques for me)

I'd almost go with the E Batman, as his stealth proved to be an awesome advantage against the lack of anti-stelath in the set. Raven almost gets the vote as well with the barrier and PC she brings to the table, both of which were incredibly useful.
Out of the Marquee I played in, by far the most useful figure I saw was the Vet Joker.
He works great against stealth pieces like Batman and Robin once they're pushed and most importantly he's took out the Vet Superman I played against nearly singlehandedly (god bless Starfire for acting as taxi/mastermind fodder against Supes). Mastermind + Outwit + Poison = a fantastic combination. Also, having a respectable attack and defense value doesn't hurt either.
The Vet Joker might well turn out to be one of the underlooked gems of this set. I have a great bit of respect for that figure now.

Played in the Icon Marquee on Saturday. I thought I had the Anti-Superman team.
V-Starfire (96)
E-Starfire (77)
R-Blackfire (48)
R-Batman (79)
300 pts. on the nose!
There was some debate about AEs on the same team, but I was correct, AEs can play on the same team during sealed events. This is the only time it is legal.
First Round vs.
R-Supes
E-Raven w/swingline
V-Starfire and E-Starfire carry their grounded figures. Bats moves to Outwit position and Outwits Imprev. V-Starfire makes the first roll (minus 4). E-Stafire and Blackfire follow-up next round and by the 4th round Supes is sent home with a headache.
Second Round
E- Superman
E-Raven
2 pogs
Same as first game, but I KO raven on turn 2 with two hits from Starfire and Blackfire. Then proceed to take down Supes as in the last game. No body loss yet.
Third Round
V-Supes
R-Robin
Play one of the regulars which we always have a good game. In addition, he also seems to pull the best figures in sealed events. I position V-Starfire and E-Starfire with Bats and Blackfire in tow behind a wall to avoid the 23 effective range of Supes. He positions Supes and baits me into the attack. I figured it is now or never. Move Bats into Outwit position, V-Starfire RS; need a 8 to hit......CRIT MISS. Ouch!!!! After that my rolls did not come through and Supes sweep the board. However, my opponent said that I was the first to actually hit Supes. I think I did 6 or 7 clicks before being sweep.
SUMMARY
1. Three great games,
2. AEs can be on the same team during saeled events,
3.Starfire (EV) and Blackfire are VERY effective first strike characters, they will see a lot of play,
4. V-Supes is a thing of beauty in action and
5. I forgot how effective grounded figures can be when flying characters can not fire out of base contact. I like the return of this rule!

I tried a E Darkseid team but I didn't really have the supporting pieces necessary to pull it off; i wound up in a bombing match with another E Darkseid and it came down to who got the first hit (it was him). Granted the dice were against me - even with an 11 AV psychic blast I couldn't hit the 18 (17+hindering) of the other Darkseid.
The team that was most successful for me:
- Flash w/Swingling
- R Batman
- E Blackfire
- V Cheetah
2. AEs can be on the same team during saeled events
Actually, this was discussed extensively over on the Judges forum @ WizKids, and after several people pored over the rules it was confirmed that Arch-Enemies can not be used together in any sealed event other than a Battle Royale.

Grinner is correct.
At today's Marquee (8 players) - 3 Vet Superman's were pulled. 2 by not so good players and one by one of our better players. Needless to say - Supes in the right hands is near impossible to counter.
I attended 2 Marquees this weekend: Marquee 1: Everyone pulled either a R or E Supes w/ 1 V being pulled. Everyone also pulled at least 1 if not 2 Batman figures. No U's pulled at all Marquee 2: 2 U Terra figs pulled. Alot of Starfires, a couple of V Darkseid figs AND a ton of Supes (4 Vets, 4 Exp and 2 Rookies). I was INCREDIBLY surprised at the lack of Uniques pulled VS the sheer number of Superman figs pulled especially considering how rare the V Supes is supposed to be...

If the entire idea of a sealed event is to build the BEST team with the figures that you pull; then how can Wizkids deem that AEs can not be played on the same team during sealed events? A player should not be penalize in a sealed event because they pulled several AEs and can not use them together. I do not understand this ruling at all.

I pulled a V Superman this weekend. Ended up with a V Superman, R Robin team.
Supes was incredibly deadly in two of my games. Managed to blow apart a R Superman, E Wonder Woman team; and a Cyborg, V Robin, etc., etc. team with no real danger to Supes.
I did lose the first game though to a deadly combination of E Joker, 2 R Cheetahs, and a V (?) Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman carried the Joker into Outwit range, and Joker's Mastermind dumped all damage onto one of his Cheetahs.
I had my V Superman's HSS outwitted, and he was swarmed under by the charging Cheetahs and Wonder Woman.
The real kicker was that I rolled three 12's... which would have been critical hits, but became critical misses because my opponent played the Madness BFC. Not cool. My Supes only hit once, and the damage was dumped onto one of the Cheetah's.
So, that loss was a little freaky. The opposing team was quite good, but might have been handled without the freak rolls.
I guess my experience this weekend was less exciting than usual because with V Supes the games tended to be all or nothing experiences, not nail biters.

I don't see how V Supes is that rare. Heck the marque yesterday out of 9 people playing 3 pulled Vet Supes. Also everybody pulled a superman of some level. I ened up playing with a E Darkseid, R Raven, V Black with swingline. I won the first round against another E Darkseid, then I had to fight a V supes. To my surprise Darkseid dominated him and I won not losing any pieces. Then I had to fight another V Supes and my luck didn't last. I went to heal my Darkseid and he was on his last click and I rolled a crit miss with Raven, killing my Darkseid. :( Overall it was a good and fun marque.

On Friday, I judged, and Starfire dominated. Only 1 Superman was pulled, and he wasn't played because he was the E version.
At the Marquee I played V Superman dominated, despite almost losing a second round match.
I came in third. It was bittersweet, because although I didn't win, or get fellowship; I did pull 3 Uniques, and I received a booster for finishing 3rd. I also pulled a Unique.
The marquee I ran today (Sunday) saw quite a few of teh Superman. 8 people pulled 2 Rookies, 1 Experienced, and 6 Veteran Supes!
I was quite suprised to see only one of them played - and that guy won - but there was also quite the showing from Darksied. All 3 versions of him were played. (2nd and 3rd place teams)

Been to two Icons Marquees so far. In both, no one pulled a V Superman (thank goodness  ). The main piece that dominated both is Darkseid. And I was the one that played both (won both Princess Koriand'r/Starfire and Tim Drake/Robin, respectively  ). In the first, I played the V; in the second, I played the E. Not to mention that in both Marquees, I pulled an E Blackfire and a R Raven.
Of the Marquees I've played, we all voted "illegally" for 400 as it made things more fun. To many high point powerhouses to not do it.
Regardless, I've seen Vet Supes win, and lose. The piece to beat, the one which everyone has had trouble with regardless, Darkseid. The experienced being the best bargain. There is no Fortitude on Supes in the drafts, so outwit is HUGE. Also Darkseid can take a hit, and become meaner. I call him "mini Ares".
I am also surprised at any Starfire victories vs. any decent Supes or Darkseid teams. In every case, anybody I played against (or myself) we all took the desk to up the defense of these big hitters by 2 against range, by +3 if in hindering. Her attack of 10 just isn't enough to beat that unless you get lucky. Even then, Vet Supes still has his HSS after 4 dmg (not outwitted), and Darkseid gets primed with a higher attack and psychic blast.
But, I have found this set very fun to play. Except for a handful of pieces, its got a lot of fun/great gameplay figs.

Superman won the day at our venue-- but it was the E, surprisingly. I beat him, but nobody went undefeated and he got the most points.
Even the E is a monster. Superman REV rocks.

There were no Vet Supermans at my marquee, but there were a ton of Jokers. Mr. J was pretty much king, and with the Flash I pulled managed to out the win.
Larry-Boy
09/26/2005, 08:22
The winning team at our Marquee, Joker REV and a pog. 3 Outwiters with poison and mastermind sharing the highest attack value. That was a brutal team to face. Oh yeah HALF of the players used a rookie Superman and there was a Vet on the field also.
Out of a half a case of booster packs only 1 unique was pulled. Very dissapointing.
Played in the marquee on Friday. My pulls were amazing: first pack had a V Superman, next had Terra, and the last R Blackfire, among other things. Needless to say, I went with Supes + Blackfire and expected to do very well. Unfortunately, that all came crashing down in my first match, in which a very, very well-played team of V Batman, V Raven, the Flash, and a pog were able to take out Blackfire early. That wouldn't have been too terrible if I'd have been able to roll more than a single successful attack all game, but nearly KOing the Flash isn't the same as KOing him, and the Outwit on that Batman (whom I was never able to hit successfully, thanks to Raven), combined with Raven's Support, was killer. As was my late-game crit miss. :(
After that round, though, things went much more smoothly. I won my next round without taking a hit and the next after losing only Blackfire. In the end, I went 2-1 and took second place behind a V Darkseid team that I never had the chance to play against.
Mine was the only Superman pulled. Every other team ran either Batman (at least one player with each version) or Darkseid (one experienced and two veterans). Also, every team but mine and one other had some version of Raven; I'd have done so, too, if I could have afforded her to pair up with Supes. She's an outstanding fig. Overall, I'd have to say that no single figure dominated more than any other. What did dominate, though, was Outwit. Everyone had at least one except for me, and it's the power that kept me from winning.

My Team for the last marquee of the weekend was:
V Blackfire x2
R Raven
E Joker
Renee Montoya
Lost the first match to a R Superman and E Joker: took E Joker with me.
Won the second match against R Superman, E Robin, and Maggie Sawyer: Lost nothing.
Won the thrid match against U Brainiac, R Blackfire, and Lian Harper: Joker was the last man standing.
The tournament came down to points and I came in third place with my opponent from the 3rd match winning.
Had great time and I had 6 players at my Marquee on Friday evening.

I was the only one to show up for my marquee :( The store owner gave me the Starfire, and I bout the Tim for 10 bucks. Not a bad deal considering the high entry fee that I didn't pay. I would have rather paid and played though.
At the Marquee I attended the 3 players who pulled V supes dominated the majority of the games with the Marquee winner being one of the 3 guys who played Supes. One of the more inexperienced players (his first tourney) went 2-1 (onlu losing to a much better player the guy who won) using V supes/R Blackfire totally destring his first opponent (?-Joker, V- Robin, E-Bats, ? Blackfire and 2 pogs) the Supes TA really helped against the Stealth/Outwitters. Hands down V Supes dominated - though for me, not facing Supes my bane was Darkseid - I lost to a team with 2 rookie Darkseids.

I won with V Wonder Woman, ? Raven (I forget), and E Joker.

At the 5 Marquees I attended (as a player or judge), in 4 at least one person pulled Superman. At 3 of the Marquees, at least one was a Veteran. The only Marquee someone didn't pull one at was where the venue didn't have any product and had to substitute Mutant Mayhem of all things.
Veteran Supes swept at all Marquees he was present at - I pulled the best "almost" against one, with a Rookie Superman and a Veteran Raven. Actually managed to manuever a first strike shot *twice*, only to have my opponent Impervious roll the first one. Lost Raven as bait setting up the second shot, which went through, and managed to get a follow up shot in after that (missed my own Impervious roll when my opponent pushed to retaliate, naturally). I then proceeded to miss my next five shots, 4 of which at 7 or better, and that naturally handed me my posterior. Have to admit I was a poor sport about it - all 4 Marquee events I played in were an exercise in absolute abysmal die rolls (the first Marquee I had Prob Control - and in each match I managed to Prob Control a miss on a "sure thing" shot into a critical miss), and by weekends end I was finally sick of the non-stop run of garbage rolls.
And don't ask - switching dice doesn't help. And no, neither does Madness. Just as I had jokingly predicted to another envoy, if someone played Madness I'd start rolling box cars instead of snake eyes - and sure enough, when one player indeed played Madness, thats exactly what I did.

At the Marquee I attended out of 6 people playing, 3 people pulled V Superman (myself included), but only one person used him. 3 people also pulled V Darkseid (myself included) and all say play.
Surprisingly, though, the winning team was E Wonderwoman, V Robin, R Blackfire, L-Ron. This team did get torched by the V Superman team, but then Superman got torched by all the Darkseids running around.
Overall the Marquee was *very* close with 4 people going 2-1 and the Wonderwoman team won by about 100 points (the guy running that team manage to KO a Starfire with his Blackfire and those AE points helped put him over the top).

I brought the pain with E Darkseid, E Raven, V Cheetah and a few pogs to tie up all the Starfire and Blackfires I faced. I really didn't use the Support from Raven, but her Prob Control was invaluable. The first person I faced wisely took her down immediately, but that opened him up a little too much. By far, he was my hardest-fought game, denying me of PC by mid-match. The others were easy-peasy, falling for the bait that Darkseid trolled out there. Cheetah sat back and surprised them with her 10 movement. Most didn't count out her Charge range.
At the event I Judged, Superman was played if he was pulled, but only the Rookie was impressive. Nobody pulled a Veteran and the one Experienced won the tourny by taking down his AE Bizarro! The kids who pulled and played Darkseid didn't want to push him or allow him to take damage, thereby denying him his most lethal clicks. Ah well, chalk it up to inexperience.

We had a V Supes pulled at the one and only one marquee that I made it to, and it wasn't mine. The guy that pulled it ended up winning, but it wasn't really because of Supes. The judge let us go to 400 points, and we had lots of power pieces pulled. For example, there were no fewer than 4 Darkseids pulled, as well as a Lex Luthor. For my team, and had an E Darkseid, R Starfire, 2 E Ravens (yay!), and an E Cheetah.
I played against the V Supes first, and handled him pretty well. He got in a first pop on one of my Ravens, and tried to smack my Darkseid with a heavy object later on (made my Impervious roll). I managed to maneuver around him and got him to push Supes at one point. Eventually, I managed to get in his grill and outwitted his hypersonic speed, upon which time he zpped my Darkseid into his Psychic blast. Which caused Supes a great deal of pain and sent him scurrying for cover. Unfortunately, we were playing very short rounds (like 35-40 minutes), so the game ended right about there. Neither of us had taken anything out, so he ended up winning on build points (399 to my 400). Funny thing was, pretty early on I thought about zapping his L-Ron to nab some points to make him come to me, which would have been the difference in the game.
Supes wasn't that difficult to deal with. I had a discussion with the judge during my last round of the tournament (I already had 2 losses, and I was playing against my friend's young kid, so I wasn't too concerned with the game), and he mentioned that the best way to deal with Supes was pretty much what I did. Get up in his face with Darkseid, outwit his HS, and make him either push to get away, or potentially smack the lord of Apokalips into his Psychic blast. I just wished I'd thought of it earlier in the game. Overall, Supes is a major-league beatstick, but in this particular format he wasn't all that. The Darkseids actually kicked more butt than Supes did.
V Joker with V Robin, Starfire, Cheetah and a pog took care of a V Supes/Raven team and my R Supes, Raven, pog and Cheetah, among one other team to win our Marquee. That poison with double outwit (and preventing shooting out) is murder.
I pulled Supes and felt obliged to go with him tho I had other good pix like V Blackfire and V Robin ...
I was the only one to show up for my marquee The store owner gave me the Starfire, and I bout the Tim for 10 bucks. Not a bad deal considering the high entry fee that I didn't pay. I would have rather paid and played though

Uh....no.
This was run all wrong. You are required to still "buy in" to the tournament regardless of whether there's someone to play. You would then receive the 1st place prize, but the other prizes are NOT for sale. They must be rolled into subsequent tournaments.

Had 400 point game, each got 3 boosters. 5 people showed up, but one's pulls were so bad that he outright refused to play. I pulled:
V Bizarro
RE Wonder Woman
EVV Starfire
V Blackfire
E Darksied
U Terra
V Joker
E Robin
R Cheetah
Played Darksied, V Starfire, E Wonder Woman, and Cheetah. Lost first round to V Superman, V Robin, V Raven and 2 pogs. Killed everyone but Supes, who crit hit an Outwitted Darksied with a heavy object in round 3. Second match, lost to V Joker, E Scarecrow, E Blackfire, E Raven, V Aquaman, and E Robin. Stealthed Joker kept Darkseid outwitted long enough for Blackfire to kill him while he was tied up smacking Robin, who'd based him. After I knocked Aquaman onto his regen/Support clicks, he just ran away and started healing everyone Darksied, Starfire and WW hadn't quite managed to kill. Killed only Scarecrow and Robin. The guy who played V Superman won. I still got fellowship, at least.

I played vet batman r raven vet aquaman and vet scarecrow. and I destroyed a brainiac in one game and a vet darkseid and a unique flash in another game. I was easily handled by a guy with a vet supes and the championship game was between two people with vet supes'. I think the MVP of the day has to go to R blackfire whom nearly everyone played and proved very useful for the cost and a giant raspberry goes to the new R boy wonder (whom I somehow managed to pull FOUR {4} of in three {3} boxes) who blows.
I was using:
V Starfire
V Robin
R Batman
R Cheetah
Cheetah was Batman's sidekick (because it seemed the retarded thing to do, and I thought it was funny), and Starfire had divebomb (same reason).
My first match went through okay. I lost some figures that I really shouldn't have, but I got through it. The second match I lost, to none other than my one true love: V Darkseid. I actually had 4 chances to maim him, but continually rolled 3's and 4's.....then in my 4th match, I went up against two V Blackfires, and two Ravens (R and V), amongst a few pogs. Batman and Robin tore it up, and Starfire got some AE points, after Cheetah took a few blows for her so she could pull it off.
The guy who beat me with darkseid said later that he lost his pog in one match (maggie sawyer), but that was it, so I'm pretty sure Darkseid was the dominant piece at our venue.
No vet supes pulled at either marquee I played in..And at the first one we bought the rest of the case.
1st Marquee I played
E supes
E Blackfire
I HATE running high point figs at any tourney but having faced Vet supes all weekend at Flatcon I decided to give E supes a try.
Won the first two matches and in the third lost to 2 V robins, Scarecrow, Cheetah On the outdoor Icons map even. But I think I would have done better if I didn't go after the whole group as opposed to getting on a roof and relying on my 18 D.
Second Marquee
R Bats
E Robin
E Blackfire
R Cheetah
V Raven
Had a rough time against V joker E scarecrow V Robin and R Cheetah. And I also had a great game against 2 V Starfires and E Bats.
Went home with the Starfire LE.
my area had a few i went to 3.its a tossup between superman, flash, and darksied. and a surprise but for the points starfire and sunfire did good 2.id have 2 say it was darksied with 11 clicks and 6 clicks into him a 5 damage.
The Human Shield ... er ... Lian Harper. Nothin' like sucking up a couple 5 click hits with a 1 point pog!
