Okay, you've just been hired as editor for a new ongoing book co-published by DC and Marvel. The premise of this book is that 5 member of the JLA and 5 members of the Avengers have been transported to an alternate dimension where there are lots of Supervillains but no Superheroes. The 10 heroes, settling into their new home, form a team to fight for justice on this world.

You have complete freedom of action to pick which five characters you would choose. You can pick any characters who have been a part of these teams from any point in Marvel or DC history.

So which 5 JLAers and which 5 Avengers would you pick?

And what sort of headquarters would they have?

JLA:

Superman
Wonder Woman
The Martian Manhunter
Flash
Green Lantern

(No Batman, as I'd rather have the most physically powerful group available....plus he wouldn't get along with Cap!!)

Avengers:

Captain America
Thor
Iron Man
The Vision
Wonder Man

Which Flash and G.L. are you thinking of?

Hal Jordan and Wally West.

Are there others? ;)

JLA:

Superman - would get along well with Thor and Cap
Martian Manhunter - picks up psychic duty and flexibility
Green Lantern - Hal Jordan, more mature GL, would get along well with Tony and Cap
Flash - Barry over Wally. Barry is more mature, and would gel better with the group. Wally would be alright if you wanted to keep it with more modern characters
Wonderwoman - 5 issues in and we'd have our mini love interest between her and Thor (oh come on, all comics have some soap opera in them, no matter how much we say we hate it). However, would Thor be right, or would she fall for the paragon of virtue, the mortal soldier that can keep up with 'gods' that is Captain America? Ooohh....intrigue :cheeky: :)

Avengers:

Captain America - possibly the only man who could lead such a team, and have everyone look up to him. Would get along very well with most of the JLA
Thor - Adds more power and versitility. Would finally feel like he has equals on his team for raw power. see above
Iron Man - I really don't consider it the 'Avengers' without the big 3, plus he adds options, tech savy, and pure intellect along with a smorgasboard of powers
Scarlet Witch - she adds a nice random element to the team and helps cover magical threats that Thor can't handle

For my last Avengers pick, I'm unsure between Hawkeye or Vision. Hawkeye gets the nod if Wally is used. Together they'd add some nice commedy. Vision is just a solid character, and adds some nice abilities to the team. Wonderman is a nice option, but he isn't cut from the same cloth as the rest of these guys, plus feels redundant on a team with Thor, Superman, Wonderwoman, Martian Manhunter, and Iron Man. Warbird might be good if you needed another female character, she can brick it, fly, and carries various energy manipulation powers. She's also more mature, and since she kicked the bottle she'll be a team player (actually, after Hawkeye and Vision she'd probably be my next pick).

Any which way, this would be a totally gnarly team. Very few people could possibly hope to stand up to them.

Ooops, forgot the headquarters part.

I like that the Avengers Mansion is in the middle of New York, it makes them feel like more 'Hero's for Everyman' in some wierd way. However, probably not the best idea.

Perhaps a mix of both theirs and the JLA. A facility of some sort on the ground which can beam team members up to a Satalite (several Marvel heros would not function well being stuck up on a space station, Cap, IM, and Scarlet Witch all tend to want to be arround people to much). The Satelite/space station would have most of the top flight gear and processing banks, but the mansion would make the team seem more accesible to normal folks.

I think it's interesting that neither person who posted so far picked Batman for the mixed team. He's such a popular person, but I think both thugit and maniac have come up with rosters that would make for really cool character interactions and Bruce isn't really missed. I like the idea of Wonder Woman perhaps being attracted to either Thor or Cap.

Green Lantern (Hal) -- My favorite, and works well in this context
Firestorm -- needs a purpose and a home
Orion -- Fierce, uncontrollable and interesting
Zauriel -- becuase I want him back
Atom -- brains of the outfit

Hercules -- best example of a pure warrior on either team
Beast -- for some more Brains, plus humor
Wasp -- best leader short of Cap A, who I think is too big-name to steal from the regular Marvel U that long
Vision -- just a favorite, cool character
Black Panther -- tactical genius, Batmanesque

I almost list Captain America and Thor, but I think they belong in their regular universe.

(Oh, and don't think Orion and herc won't fight each other as much as the emenies!)

Headquarters:

Mountain HQ is the Rockies. A Superhero NORAD for a troubled world.

I like this list - the regular A-list guys are soooo been-there-done-that. I've always prefered less-than-powerful characters, but how about Damage in place of Firestorm?

JLA

Martian Manhunter- able to adapt to new worlds easily
Green Lantern (Kyle)- Youth, diversity
Power Girl- Brute strength
Doctor Fate- Easy transprt, in case the teams need to return to their respective homeworlds
Elongated Man- One of my favorites.

Avengers

Wasp
Giantman
Hawkeye
Luke Cage
Warbird

I don't really know, I picked whatever for the Avengers.

Base- A remote tropical island

JLA:
Captain Marvel- Better than Superman, despite what the rest of the world thinks.
Martian Manhunter- He's so kick ###....
Blue Beetle- Uh, he's Blue Beetle.
Booster Gold- Blue Beetle is on the team.
Kyle Rayner- Best...DC...character....ever....

Avengers:
Quicksilver- Oh, Quicksilver. How I love thou.
Scarlet Witch- Just because...
Vision- Him and Martian Manhunter would hang out.
Hawkeye- Him and Kyle would become the new Hal and Ollie.
Black Panther- He's Batma...er...Black Panther!

Just a caveat- I don't know the Avengers well, so my picks for them are pretty generic.
Avengers:
Captain America
Thor
Iron Man
Hawkeye
Black Panther

JLA:
The Avengers portion makes for a good base of bad-guy-fighting ability, so I'm focusing more on useful powers for the JLA-types:
Martian Manhunter
Zatanna
Flash
Firestorm
The Atom

DC:

GL (Kyle Rayner): Do I even need to explain why at this point?
Martian Manhunter: Probably the best utility man in comics
Jesse Quick: Speedster.
The Blue and Gold Express (Blue Beetle and Booster Gold): You were expecting me to ignore them? Fat chance!

Marvel:

Thor (Donald Blake): Brawn, pure and simple.
Captain America (Steve Rodgers): The leader of this band of misfits.
Iron Man (Tony): The tech guy.
She Hulk: More Brawn.
Wasp: She can shink and be annoying. That kind of needed...I think.

From the JLA:
-Superman - c'mon guys, he whupped ### in nearly every Comic Universe... including Thor and the entire FF to a standstill (and only because he was being nice). Plus he's got smarts and charisma (even more than Cap). Plus he's got media-savvy. Ideal to be the Chairman although not the field commander (see below).
-Flash - Whether it's Barry or Wally or even Jay or Bart, no one in the Marvel Universe can bring the experience and raw speed these guys can provide the team.
-J'onn J'onnz - the Martian Manhunter provides psionics greater than Charles Xavier himself plus the fact that he's a powerhouse and has a ludicrous number of powers for any occassion as well as extensive scientific knowhow and experience.
-The Atom - another "brain" on the team, he can go where Ant-Man could never dream possible... and he's a better fighter too
-Zatanna - you need a spell caster on an A-list team. Scarlet Witch is too raw and unpredictable... and ZZ's more savvy as well as connections to the Lords of Chaos and Order. And she's just a tad hotter ;-)
-Green Lantern - although I love Hal, Kyle's a better choice as he won't be tied down too much with the Guardians unlike Hal who's got too much on his hands all too often. Plus his ring doesn't have inherent weaknesses and is far more creative than Quasar.

From the Avengers:
-Captain America - experience and strategy and a helluva drill instructor. On the field, he takes charge. Although Supes handles the Executive chair, Cap's the commander on field missions. Think of it as President and Armed Forces Chief. Supes has the final say on which missions to go but Cap's got full responsibility once it's green-lighted.
-Iron Man - Perhaps the most innovative and resourceful tech-hero ever. Although he can get bossy at times, he's second only to Reed Richards when it comes to building-what-you-need on the fly. Plus he's richer than Bruce Wayne so for all the team's needs, just dial S-TA-R-K.
-Hawkeye - you need a rebel in any team. Although Green Arrow's a better shot, Clint isn't as politically incorrect and has more experience dealing with the strange stuff a team like this encounters.
-She-Hulk - although underclassed compared to Kal and J'onn even on the Strength department alone, Jennie brings something no other team can field: being a lawyer. She's got PR, she's a natural flirt and she can handle the legal issues the team will encounter on a daily basis.
-Firestar - she's a young veteran, and she adds firepower to the arsenal. And she's the perfect foil to either Wally or Kyle because of her straightlaced persona.

Those who didn't make the cut and why:
-Wonder Woman - this was tough, but seeing as though she often decides to make decisions on her own, without consulting the team, Diana would likely screw up the dynamic from time to time.
-Batman - as a consultant, ok, he'll solve any dillemma the team can face... when he's not too busy... and if you ask really nice. Solid as a team player if he's in charge of it... just too aristocratic even for the elite.
-Thor - ego's a tad too high. When he's ticked, he tends to forget reporters are mortals. And without his hammer, he's only a superstrong viking. Sorry goldilocks.
-Scarlet Witch - oi. Too much emotional baggage. And her powers aren't even 50% reliable.
-Aquaman - I'd love to put him in, especially with his new water-elemental abilities. and he's more approachable than Namor. Sadly, like water, he'd dilute the mixture.
-Quicksilver - ego the size of Mt. rushmore... and a fraction (a verrry small fraction) of any of the DC Speedsters' top speed... and they can lend you speed too.
-Pym - wife-beater; neurotic; has paranoid schizophrenic episodes. And changes identities as often as Wasp changes clothes. Need I say more?
-Wolverine - uh, he's short, he's hairy, he's stubborn and he hates pretty boys telling him what to do. That and he doesn't really bring anything unique to the team... as well as already appearing in 20 Marvel comics titles a month.
-Spider-Man - Pete's going to be Reaaaalllll uncomfortable around these guys. I can see him get along with Kyle or Wally but, Spidey will just sink into a fit of depression once he sees what they can do. Can't have that in the middle of a fight.

Although it was said you can pick from anyone who's ever been a team member, I still want to stay away from characters who are dead. (mainly referring to Hawkeye, though that may be changing according to House of M. Also no Thor, seeing as he's dead and all) Also, it would be a good idea to leave the A-listers in their own universe.

DC-
Green Lantern - Kyle (I like Hal more, but he should remain in his universe)
Supergirl- (can't have Superman, go for next best thing)
Capt. Marvel - (see last comment)
Martian Manhunter - (telepath of the group)
Capt. Atom - (energy guy of the group is you dont count Lantern)

Marvel-
Wasp - (good leader)
Hercules- (match Supergirl and Marvel in pure strength)
Sentry - (similar to last comment, but with energy and speed as well)
Black Panther - (similar to Batman or even Cap America)
Quicksilver - (fastest out of everyone, pre-House of M)
