I was recently in one of my 2 comic shops, when I came across these little books put out by Marvel. It seems that they were a loose collection that reprinted some of the original issues of The Avengers, The X-Men, The Fantastic Four, and Amazing Fantasy, in which those teams, and Spider-Man made their first appearances. They also each have 3 issues in them. The best part, they are cover priced at only $1.00.

So far, I've picked up:

Avengers: Assemble (Avengers Issues #1-3)
X-Men Children of the Atom (X-Men Issues #1-3)
Fantastic Four: Frist Family (FF Issues #1-3)

I'll be picking up the two Spider-Man related books on Wed., when I go in to peruse and pick up this week's comics.

It's a great way for people to get the origins, and read about them, without busting out a wad load of cash for these classics, as well as get some additional stories. I know the origins of these teams, but it's been forever and a day since I've read them. Now I can read them again, and get some additonal issues. 15 issues of classic comics, for $5.00.

These were printed this year!

And if you like those, the Essentials collections are also a great deal. For about $12 you get around 20 issues.

I don't know why, but I've never given those a second look. I'll have to check them out.

They're black and white, on cheap paper, but they are a lot of story-bang for the buck.

I had been buying the Masterwork Spideys through Ditko's run, but bought the Essentials for the uh, less essential stories that followed.

I've also read almsot all of the Avengers v1 thourhg the 70's, thanks to the Essentials. Great stuff. Vol 2-4 of Avengers have a lot of landmark stories in them.

Masterworks are good, too. Those ARE in color. Just a little more expensive.
