View Full Version : Is it too much to ask?

And yes, I know I'm lining myself up for a smartass answer of "yes", but seriously, does it hurt to put a wants list with your trade thread? The last 10 threads I've looked through have a bunch of "haves" and a "make me offers" for wants. Gah!

You could do what I do and ignore threads that dont tell me what they want, or post what they have.......

(not exactly the smart-arse answer you thought you might get)

Personally I hate that, and just usually end up not bothering with the person.

Either that or I send them an offer to trade their figures for a paper clip or something as equally smartassy. :cheeky:

BOTH good answers!

One of my favorites: having a wants-list consisting of 'all Uniques and LE's' and getting a 'I don't need those' reply on an offer. :ermm:

Ah well, at least I got a reply. :)

Because it's funny and will probably always be timely, here's a hilarious post that tchipley made a few months back in regards to us folks of the trade boards. ;) This deserves to be seen multiple times.

I just categorie them as follows:

Traderius Kookamugus: Puts stuff up but wants ridiculous trades for them.
Examples: Have FF Prof X. Want KC Superman and KC GL. or Have KC Superman, Want Thor (low want) Martian Manhunter (low want.)
Have Ares ********* want DP ** or Galactus* (not going to trade a lot for)...well you get the picture.
An insane trader at best or a braggart ("Oooh looky at what I got!") avoid at all costs.

Traderius CantSpeakOrSpellicus: For the last time "It's Kilowog not *Kilowag!!*" If you can't spell it don't ever plan on getting one. Dummies. :tired: Avoid em like the buck-toothed girl at prom. Aint worried about sending because you aint trading with them. They'd probably misspell your address anyways.

eBay Aholicus Every trade is based on what they can get off of ebay. Well buddy, get to steppin'. Ebay is only a click away. EBay is a two way street and only ebay wins in that exchange. Oh wait you forgot about their fees? and shipping/handling? If you didn't factor that in maybe you aren't the person I want to trade with. Annoying and a borderline dumb dumb. Will want you to send first or they will want simulsend.

Collectus Mostallofmus Veteran trader. Only needs the high end stuff you probably don't have anyways (LE Banner, Creed, Adler, Pharzoof) Aint gonna get much from them unless they are in a generous mood. They have good reps but that really don't help when you can't get a trade going with them. You'll most likely have to send first unless you have 20+ references. I am fast approaching this category.

Traderius Noobius Newer trader. Usually don't know what the value of their pieces are and tend to make bad trades early on. Usually see them talking about how "cool" Thanos is or how many points Savage Hulk is. Vulture tend to flock to them to strike while the iron is hot. Typically they have 0-2 Trade references but at least 10 or more PM bumps to their trade thread. They learn fast, but if burned too many times early in their career become a eBay Aholicus or a Kookamugus. They must always send first until they build up their reputation.

Traderius Normalis Reasonable trade thread with what you are looking for. 5-10 trade references. Chances are you are going to be able to make the trade. Sometimes requires a few extra nons, feats on your end to seal the deal. They exist, it just takes a little patience. Can usually get a simulsend.

Traderius Magnifico: Lots of stuff to trade and a good trade references. Actually makes trades that are on their list. Speedy delivery and no BS.

Yeah, I'd agree with all of the above.

Traderius CantSpeakOrSpellicus- I would agree with this one if this was a site with free spellcheck. I totally agree with the rest.

*points to Superfro's sig "my trade thread" where it doesn't have any needs for all his haves* ;)

what category would someone that likes to trade more than 1 figure ea. way would fit? I've skipped over threads where I only see 1 figure I want just because it doesn't justify the cost of shipping.

I really enjoy trading, just don't have enough stuff to trade with unfortunetly :( I'm hoping AW gives me some new things to get rid of for some of the things I'm missing.

Oh trust me...I know I'm part of the problem! :cheeky:

My list anymore is just a source for me to keep track of what extras I have. I should probably remove the link though. ;)

It's quite sad really, as I loved going on the trade forums and digging through all the threads and getting and sending 100s of PMs in a week. I've been at the point with the last two sets that I've been just moving things around, like in 1 for 1 trades that don't get me anything I need, in order to help other people fill in their needs. That's one of the biggest parts of this community for me, and it's different now that I'm complete.

Course not sad enough to get me to want to start all over from the begining.
