Wow, I could of sworn we did this one already.
*Excuse my lack of knowledge of actors names*
This film was such a classic adventure film with one heartwarming addition : Friendship. I think this strong addition of theme was such a nice idea, and gives this film the awesomeness....how everyone banded together and each had a role to play e.g. Fat guy, cool whizzy asian guy etc.
And it had some SCHWEET actors in...i loved the guy whats his name...the cool guy and I liked the Asian guy (im sorry I cant even remember their character names)
Anyways, what a great little adventure flick.
8 Out of ten from me.

Sheesh, another Rating of 1?? Seems to me (and it certainly isnt just you EN) that 0s and 1s are really handed out here way too easily on these threads.
By giving a movie a 0 (which is counted as a 1 anyway) or a 1, youre saying that there is not a SINGLE good or redeeming this about this film, AT ALL, and that pretty much every aspect of it STUNK.
The music STUNK. The acting STUNK. The story STUNK. The characters, the affects, the laughs, the directing, every single thing that makes up a film STUNK, and that you hate this movie with every fibre of your being. (again not just you and not just you EN, just saying to anyone who rates something a 0 or 1)
I ask us all, before you hand out 1s and 0s so easily, think hard. It may not be a movie you loved, or even liked, but is that film in the realm of the WORST EVER MADE, because by such a rating thats where youre putting it. Many movies thus far have gotten 0s and 1s, and I dont think any of the films I listed, not even Starship Troopers, falls in the realm of Worst Film EVER.

Well, I usually don't feel like having to stop watching a film after twenty minutes. Usually I make it through, even though I think it's bad. But I really couldn't stand this one.

Well said.
This was on AMC the other week. Its fun to play: "wow! isn't that..." and "I wonder whatever happened to.." Other than that its kinda dumb.

Well, I freely admit I've given out a couple of these but in both of the prominent cases, you pretty much summed up why I gave those films those scores. I detested those flicks with every single ounce of my being and couldn't find one redeeming quality (sorry, but the ad campaign for Blaire Witch is not part of the movie itself - if the flick can't survive being rewatched on DVD than it doesn't deserve a high score, IMO). I love movies - I have a movie collection that is, frankly absurd - and few things in the world are more enjoyable to me than going to the movies for the cinematic experience so for me to hate a movie it takes _a lot_ (I mean, geez, I even like "Night at the Roxbury. :) ).
Fortunately, "Goonies" isn't one of those movies I despise. Quite the opposite. It was a welcome nod to adventures of yesteryear with a wonderful ensemble cast. It was creative, it was funny, it was tense in all the right spots and - all in all - it's just enjoyable to watch time and time again for me. It may not be the heighth of movie-making but sometimes you just need a good "ain't it a kick to watch?" flick and this one does that amply.

By the same token, 9-10 ranges are given out awfully easily as well. :) I mean, those should be the absolute epitome of superior film and, oft-times, I think movies are getting those scores based upon "fond memories" or the like. Perhaps the lower scores are a response to balance out the high-scores sometimes tossed around on certain films?

Is that something worth mentioning in this context?

Emp, the first 20 minutes of Goonies isn't that great (except for the Truffle Shuffle).
But for the "hey look who was in this movie" appeal, the Cheesy Cindy Lauper soundtrack, the cool traps and puzzles along the way and the group dungeon crawl aspects of it, I have to give it at least a decent score.
I view it as a Roleplaying game campaign with the problem solving and trap evasion.
I'll give it a 7.5, bolstered b/c the cheese factor makes it more enjoyable.

All my friends told me I had to see this movie and when I did I couldn't stand it. It was boring and I hated most of the little kids. It had its moments at least, like the truffle shuffle. Still this movie is way overrated.
5.5 out of 10
I remember seeing this film as a young kid, and thinking that it was the funniest darn film Id ever seen. Of course thats not the same as a semi-mature adult, but I can easily see where thoughts like that came from.
Goonies to me is one very fun and enjoyable film. Youve got a nice ensemble cast of young actors, in a Indiana Jones Jr. type adventure story, filled with its share of laughs and thrills. Sure it had its dopey parts, but overall Richard Donner did a great job of making you have fun with this party of underage adventurers and treasure hunters as they make their way thru the Temple Of Doom-Lite in order to find the riches and come out alive.
While not a Richard Donner classic as say Superman or The Omen, Goonies is a very enjoyable family film, that to me has alittle bit of everything in it for both the young and old (not to mention our good buddy Sloth) :)

I don't care what anyone says, this movie gets a 10! I've got it, I saw it when I was little, and have seen probably well over 50 times. It's just great from beginning to end.
I give it a seven. It's one of those movies that sneaks up on you. yes it got some over exposure from the Cyndi Laupner soundtrack but it really is a neat move. The friendship themes are heartwarming as well. ThHis one and Stand by Me are two very good movies about friendship imo.

I avoided this movie, much like I did Karate Kid. I don't like "Kids" movies...never did, still don't. One day I was in a comicbook shop and a movie was playing. I didn't give it much thought as I was shopping but couldn't help but notice how horrible the acting was. It was that type of acting where it sounded as if they were reading from the script directly...and STILL couldn't manage the sentences. I finished shopping and still had no idea what movie was playing.
Fast forward several weeks and my wife and our friend were talking about the movie Goonies. They said I should just give it a chance, that way I can say I at least saw it.
So I did. All of a sudden, the memory of the movie in the comic shop hit me. It was this movie. This movie was THAT bad even without looking at the screen. Now I'm seeing it and it's worse. Stupid plot, stupid characters, and reading of lines (notice I can't call it acting) that make drilling a hole in my foot sound less painful.
Even with all of that it's STILL better than Titanic and Bring It On.

These 80's classics I think you have to get the kids young or it's never happening, like religion :p
I saw this as a kid and I got a metal detector for christmas! Goonies and the Explorers were THE cool movies for 80's kids, I guess once those seeds germenate you always love them, although plenty of movies I found cool then seem AWFUL now.

This movie was poop in the 80's and, unlike most poop, it still stinks 20 years later! Talk about films that have lived off of nostalgia! This one is right near the top of the list. It was a moderate hit with kids when it came out and now that those kids have grown up they remember this as a good film. Check again. Poorly acted. Rotten script. Richard Donnor directing like he was still doing Danger Island episodes (Oh Oh Chongo!) And, as mentioned several times already, a soundtrack with Cyndi Lauper! Horid, horrid, horrid. Avoid this movie at all costs!

My wife and I had a friend that worked at a theater. He said, "Hey, want to see a movie today? I'll get us in." It was this movie. It's the only free movie I ever walked out on. lol I considered asking form my money back (even though I didn't pay)...since I should have gotten something for the pain.
Heck, I saw Bring It On (on cable, not in the movies), and proud of it. Are you kidding, Kirsten Dunst and Eliza Dushka (among many others) in cheerleader outfits, what the heck more do you need??? :)

DTM speaks wisely. Seriously. It's Eliza Dushku in spankies. What's not to love?
Oh, and I, personally, love the Cyndi Lauper song. This movie is quotable, it's got lil' Samwise in it, and there's even a Joe Pantoliano appearance. C'mon! It's Joe Pantoliano. This has got to be one of the only roles he's ever played where he doesn't die. I give it a very healthy 7.5.

Ah, I remember that movie. Didn't recognize the title.
I saw it with a couple of friends on TV two years or so back and we had a lot of fun.
After that we watched Blair Witch Project 2 and had fun, too.
Now that I think about it there might have been alcohol involved.

Apparently more than this. Nothing could save this movie. Ever.
Eh, no accounting for taste I guess. :)
The Goonies... I watched it again last night with my bro and two friends, and it's still great. Acting, music, and props are not especially brilliant but they're good enough to serve the movie's purpose. I don't know what makes me laugh more between Chunk's "confession", Data's loosy gadgets and Mouth's spanish translation , but we had a really good time watching it.
