On this board we have one common factor that we are all interested in heroclix. However, in terms of being in the game we are all different and fall into a few different categories. What category do you think you fall into?

A Player

A collector

A collecting/Player

Heroclix? What is that? Where am I?

I collect 1 of each REV, trade most uniques and ALL SRs I pull, and collect more of certain generics (mainly vet Hand Ninjas). I glue my flyers and toss my LE boxes. I realize all y'all pure collectors have most likely passed out after such blasphemy, but they are MY figures, and I collect them to play.

My work is done here. ;)

I'm a player, love to play. But since I really prefer to play theme teams, I have to be a bit of a collector so I can get everything I want.

Good point. But there is a difference...Player doesn't mind trading away KC Superman for that one figure he wants to use. A collector, would never trade KC Superman or any other high priced figure for something that trival.

Also, a collector wants Peter Parker because he's got the civilian name. It's just a lucky coincidence that he also has good stats.

Player/Judge/Collector

Although, with only 12-14 more figures that I need from every heroclix set (I don't bother with the LE/SR difference, and only collect Mis printed Purples), My collector side almost has it easy at this point...

... Now I must amass several dozen Snow Troopers and Rebels to go with my (2) AT-AT's and (3) AT-ST's for Star Wars Mini's... and then there's Ewoks so I can do the Battle of Endor...

... I'll never be done with collecting :p

Player

I collect to be able to play the teams I like, or characters I enjoy reading about. I will trade off higher end stuff for the lower end that I want depending on the fig.

I am not a player in the sense that I cheese out to win. I play for the fun of playing, so I play a lot of theme teams.

Been a collector for a couple of years now. Yes, I'm the obsessive type who wants to have one of every clix (REV, LE, SR, what have you). Recently started playing home games and am going to my first official site for NGN on the 28th. Looking forward to being "retaught" the rules the correct way.

I selected "Collector who Plays" or "Player who Collects". I love playing heroclix and collecting my favorite comic book heroes/villians in plastic form, but I'm having a hard time adjusting to all these new changes with the BFC's and FC's. I think that I just don't play enough, yeah that's it!!

I don't have to have EVERY figure, REV, Unique, LE, SR or whatever. I used to try to get all REV and Uniques for a set but I decided to just go with characters and teams I like instead of the entire expansion or base set. All I do buy is DC. Just because I like them more and can't afford to spend more than I already do on Heroclix.

I hope to be more of a player/collector but I don't have much chance to play as I work full-time and have a family. One day I hope to make it to the venue close to me or at least find some players that can play whenever. Maybe NGN will open a door for me.

I'm a collector by convenience and a longtime judge, so I'm only now getting to play regularly. I got used to buying figs, sticking them in a box, building teams for tournaments I wasn't playing in, and clicking through them mindlessly... :knockedou

I get all the R/E/V's and uniques for each set, and extra generics I want to build armies with. I'll collect Marvel LE's, although I won't pay much for the ones I'm missing. I never collected DC or Indy LE's, although I'm starting to keep a few that I intend to play when they fall into my lap. Super rares and LE's are the same to me, but I prefer SR's so I don't have a box to store someplace. I don't bother with purples or Masterpiece figs because I can't play them, but even if you could, too darn expensive for nothing. Gotta find me a Galactus, though.

Sure you do :rolleyes: . Just cause you're a collector doesn't mean you spend every waking moment attempting to obtain pieces. I am both but don't bother with purples nor SRs. Not worth shelling out an extra 100 or so for those.

I am a player, I get the key peices from each set to play a good game, with the exception of Excalibur team members. So I hate to get Vet Captain Briton, LE Shadow Cat (who clearly needs an update), Unique Pheonix (Rachel Summers). Now I'm missing Mini-maxium, Meggan, amoung others.

I am a collector who sometimes plays. I love to play, but can never find time to travel to a venue, or build a team before I go, or search the new rules and errata before I go, or figure out what kind of tourney it is beforehand. I just don't have time to play in official events, and can rarely find anyone to play casual with either. I do find time to make some customs now and again, or repaint some shoddy-looking pieces, and that's the biggest joy I get out of it. That and trading. I really like trading pieces here on the 'realms or in person at events. I rarely have to spend much money(relative to what I used to have to spend) to complete sets anymore, and I kinda like that. So I am a collector first, with a strong urge to be a player.

94% of us are a player of some sort. I hope WK takes s good look at this poll and realy starts to focus on the stats and powers and give us playable peices. I for one do not like any power on my HSS character that dosen't work with it i.e. Quake, B/C/F, EW so many points wasted. Enough with the BCF, Feats, pogs, object tokens. The only feat that would be worth anything would cost 0pts and allow all power actions to become attacks and all attacks to become power actions. HSS EW anyone? sorry just a rant and of course it would cost 30-35 pts :(

I usually try to get two of each character that I want so I can play with one and put the other away. Well I used to do that a lot but not so much now. Now I just look for the pieces that I can play well with but who doesn't.

By the way if you haven't played in a while and are looking to get back into playing then try to find some young kids to teach the game. I taught my 7 year old triplet cousins how to play and they were so full of questions and it really made the game fun, because we weren't so focused on winning but on playing.

One kid rolled a 5 or 6 with one of the two dice everytime he rolled and stomped my Vet. Blade (MM) with his Exp. Wolverine (MM). It was awesome!!!

What about if you are a strictly compettitve player, in it for the glamour(?) or if you are a strictly "for fun" player, in it for the fun? What if you are both? I collect all of the REV/Unique sets and as many LE's as I can. I play for fun with my friends (themes teams, theme scenarios, sound effects, battle cries, laughing, etc.) and I know some people who only play to win in tournaments (exploiting every "cheesy" tactic).

I am both a collector and a player. As a collector, I collect characters that belong to comics that I am currently into or very interested in (Alpha Flight, B.P.R.D., Legion of Superheroes, New Avengers, Teen Titans, Thunderbolts, Ultimates) and characters that I really like. I try to collect all of the figures (R/E/V/U/LE) that are available for a certain character or team that I am really into.

As a player, I play pretty competitive teams. I try not to play any "cheesy" teams, but, regretfully, sometimes I do (it really depends on the format of the tournament). :ermm: I do play for fun, but most of the time, my competitive side comes out.

I love the figures, and try to get at least 1 of each, unless I really hate the character (like Orphan or Warlock). I love to play, too. So I chose collector who plays, though I , too, judge more than play.

Do not get to play as much as I like, so I collect. Have every REV from every set thru Icons. I have all Uniques thru FF. I do not collect Promotionals and the only LE's I have are the playable (Elektra) and the hard to find (Victor Creed, Natasha Romonov (CT))

Collecting would drive me totally nuts, trust...so I prefer to keep what's left of my sanity and just have fun playing...that's not to say that I don't "collect" tourney-worthy figs to build teams with though :)

I like to think of myself as a player , because the very thought of trading crappy uniques ans LE'S who are really worthless besides the fact that they are uniques- for a butt load of nons is a great feeling. In fact I trade about every unique I end up with unless they can actually be played.Thats just the way I feel.

I collect DC, and have almost all the non-le's (just got Prometheus, R Starfie from Cj and V Easy Co Medic yet to look for).

BTW, I would trade KC Supes for U Prometheus, but I don't have an extra at the moment... (feel the rollercoaster of hope and disappointment in that sentence? who says words ain't got power) ?

I still have a lot of Marvel, and some power peices like U Thor also. Plus, I'm a judge.

I'm only a collector because I like to play, or I like to play because I'm a collector? I don't have to have every single fig, just 1 of each specific character (hopefully the vet, but this doesn't always work out), unless there is another version with a radically different dial or different team ability. I want to be able to field a comic-book accurate team at a moment's notice. :)

I get everything and need somewhere around 8 figs to have everything up to Armor Wars, but i'm not 'collecting' as much as getting everything. Probably not a huge distinction there, but hey, we all have our own perspectives....;)

Since I hardly have any time to play, I consider myself to be mostly a collector. I have hundreds of clix stored in my basement. One of these days I'll run out of space. Still, I don't collect complete sets and I don't chase after hard-to-find/expensive clix such as Masterpiece figures. I am trying to collect a set of Uniques from all expansions, though. (Still need a NC and a MM.)

If I could, I'd be more of a player. As it is, I will classify myself under collector who plays.

SINCE WHEN?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! they are only $8 a booster... and you get 4 in each, with a card... thats not expensive.... (not joking, not being sarcastic... just plain telling the truth)

Tricky question.
I'm interested in collecting the pieces because I really like having as much variety as possible to play games with.
There are lots of collectable games I like, but I've never been crazy about the concept of selling a game that your players can't get all the pieces for.

I was a collector until one of the new guy nights when I learned the game and enjoy it so much. I enjoy the sculpts of each as many of them are representative of the characters I read about. You can be a collector and not a player as I was one.

I'm a "Collecting Player, Or Collector that Plays".

I've been reading comics off and on since early grade school, and I've always loved superheroes. I'm also a gamer and have been since junior high, and I love miniatures and figurines - so a pre-painted superhero minis game is right up my alley. I've been collecting HC since Infinity Challenge first hit the shelves and have kept up with it through each new set that comes out.

With that said, I've never been fully happy with the rules and gameplay. There are a lot of things about HC that frustrate me to no end, but I keep putting up with all of it because I love collecting well detailed miniatures of all my favorite superheroes and then being able to use them in a game.
