I think 7/10 does justice to this movie.
Good popcorn flick.
The first time I saw it, I loved it and would have given it a 9. Second time through, I was board and would have given it a 6. I'll average it out to a solid 7.5
Ive gotta say I really enjoyed this movie. Top notch in pretty much every area for me, from acting to music to effects to directing. My only main concern was that at 2 1/2 hours it was a bit long for me, but everything else sat realloy well with me, and I thought this was a really very good film. More of a drama with some action scenes than an action film, and with Ridley Scott at the helm you know you cant go wrong......well, Kingdom Of Heaven aside. :p
Overall, a very cool movie that deserves a high mark in my book.

I found Gladiator a lot more fun to watch before it became clear what a total tool Russell Crowe is. It's still good fun despite tho odd historical hiccup.
8.5 ish.

I can't watch Gladiator now w/o thinking of "Makin movies, makin songs and fightin round the world" from South Park. Still this is a movie I thought was great when I saw it on the big screen and one I'll still watch if it's on TV. I'd give it a solid 8.5 with points off b/c Tugga doesn't make an appearance.
This movie probably wasn't as good as the hype. Some of the themes hinted at in the movie are interesting; the incest, insanity, etc.
The battle scenes are fantastic, especially the first one. I like that description; a drama with action scenes.
I give it a 7 because I can still watch it I don't think it's as good as it was when I was wowed by it on the big screen. maybe the outstanding opening battle sequence had a lot to di with the feeling of the rest of the movie.
Look, I found another old thread languishing in the dark :)
I love this film, for me it does everything right and is a nice piece of work. Just a one shot deal - no sequel in mind, just make a great film and aim for "epic". Not just a rehash of the old Roman movies with better FX - it has a decent story. Great battle scenes, great costumes, effects, actors - Oliver Reed is great, glad he managed to be in this just before his death. Joaquin and Russell, they do their job well. The opening was great, I was sitting a little too close to the big screen when this movie was released, but it seemed to drawn me into that battle even further. Good passage of time in this film too, I like it when you go in for a couple of hours and you come out feeling like you lived in another world for some time. The discovery of his wife & son, a powerful moment and keeps the hope for his revenge running throughout the film. Some of the other characters that were great were the big gladiator guy, forget his name, and the African hunter dude. Don't remember their names but did care about their characters. Just had a terrible feeling they would die, always seems to happen in films like this. Ending seems a little subdued after all the extreme action throughout the film.
I rate this a 9 out of 10.

I must've missed this one...I loved this movie. I managed to ignore the obvious historical problems and put in perspective that so little was known about the two emperors depicted here ,that these liberties are forgiveable....I mean afterall what film doesn't contain some misrepresentation of the truth. The cast is absolutely outstanding here, the fight scenes are incredible and the city of Rome is a very compelling and seamless CGI depiction. Although highly derivitive of the epic films before it (in particular some of the contemporary ones) it is still overall an impeccable and undeniable effort. Russel Crowe may have the reputation as a jerk in real life but that never registers in any of his performances for me and that is really all that matters...he is currently one of the best in the business.

Good but not great. I really liked it before all the accolades and I hate that that affected my impression of it but i went from comparing it to other fun action films to comparing it to award worthy masterpieces.
in the world of action movies it probably rates an 8.5
But in the overall spectrum of film I think that it only deserves a 7
A great classic with some of the most memorable action scenes in movie history, solid acting, and how can you go wrong with Tigers.
9.5
All the love has actually warmed me over slightly so I'll be generous with a 7. I enjoyed the movie when I first watched it, but it didn't really wow me at all. The historical inaccuracies did bother me though and I did know about Russel Crowe being a tool before I watched it so that doesn't help. Anyway, still a fun movie, but how it beat Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon I'll never know...or Traffic for that matter...

I was really into this movie when it first came out but the love affair cooled down. I still enjoy it, but not as much and I guess that says something about the movie. If it doesn't "stick" with you through the years, it wasn't as good as you may have first thought.
Still, it is a good movie full of action and angst. They try a bit too hard for the "epic" feel and just don't get that part. Making the Colosseum much, much larger with CG is not the thing to do...but they do it anyway. Ah well, they tried.
Still I give it a nice solid 7.5/10.
I give it a 9.75, if only because I liked Troy better.
I'm a sucker for a good ancient military movie.
Watched it a few days ago for the third time. It's still good. The shooting is great, Ridley Scott has made some really beautiful movies these last years.
The acting is good enough to get you into the movie; the story was nice too, even though historically it's completely unrealistic. Special effects serve the movie well. Great action scenes (though there's way too much slo-mo and blur in the first fight in Germania, Scott is definitely not Peckinpah :ermm:). For a reason, I didn't like the music that much, but I didn't hate it either. So, it was a good entertainment, and the length didn't bother me at all, which is a very good thing when a movie is more than two hours.
7.5/10.

I'll give this a 9, simply for not being the carp that was Troy and 300.

where are the military formations ? was I thinking throughout the battle scene...
overhyped movie definately does NOT hold up well with repeated viewing.
5/10
I really enjoyed this one. I don't know anything about that time period so I didn't notice any historical inaccuracies, I just assume going in to see a film that most of it won't follow history anyway. All of the arena scenes were awesome.
7.5
