View Full Version : Should DC Revert back to the Silver Age way of doing things?

Given the events going on in the DCU (Infinite Crisis), should DC use this opportunity to go back to the existance that DC had before Crisis on Infinite Earths? If so, why?

Should we have the current Superman, whose toned down power wise, has depth, and more character. Or should we have the cheesy, planet juggling, Dr, Feelgood return?

Should we have the current brooding, uber Batman who only now is realizing what direction his paranoia, and brooding have driven him to? Or should we have the smiling dynamic duo Batman who referred to Robin as "old chum?"

Personally, I like the current DCU better than the bright and sunny place with happy endings that it was before.

What do you think?

I think a happy medium is probably in order. Pre-crisis Superman is simply too powerful to ever have much in the way of reasonable competition. Add in to that that comics aren't just for children any more. I think they'll probably use the Crisis to remove some of the edge that had been forced on to some of the characters in favor of something a bit more tame, but I don't think we'll be going back to the 50s and 60s in terms of writing.

Frankly, I think Crisis came about becuase DC was worried at how dark some of its books have been getting. I think they want to use this opportunity to remove some of the bit players in the universe so it doesn't seem like everyone and their neighbor is a superhero (kind of like what Marvel did with their mutants at the end of House of M, but not so widespread), and to "reset" the universe to something less dark and more universally acceptable.

I want all the DC/National Comics characters on one world. No multiple Earths with "counterpart" Supermen, Batmen, and Wonder Women, etc.

Now, I wouldn't mind a "parallel Earth" that had all of the Quality Comics, Fawcett Comics, and Charlton Comics characters on it.

Things don't need to go back to pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths status quo.

But, characters do need room in which good stories could be told using them.

Blue Beetle always had potential. But, there really wasn't time/space/room for telling good stories with him. He then was slipped into the role of "comedy relief" for years. And the best story he had was the Countdown story.

Then there's Superman. I feel that character has been hurt by having so many other similar characters crowded on the same Earth with him.

Just an opinion.
