So, our next film, Classic or Crud, Hit or Miss, what say you ALL?

Our next film open for discussion, and ultimately an Overall RATING by you all:

THE BLUES BROTHERS
rc4vAqCWLiY

Let the discussions flow. Likes, dislikes, classic film or overhyped trash, and DONT FORGET to place an Overall Rating when youre done.

Its easy, just give a Rating from 1 (Jaws 4:The Revenge) to 10 (Jaws), and thats it. Course I'd love to have you all give reasons as to why you feel it deserves this Overall Rating, and more than encourage discussions with us all about them.

So, what say you all?

Next Film: ??????

Blues Brothers?

Saw 5 minitues of the 2000 version. I was disgusted. I don't think I can rate the original, though.

I missed the other ratins', so I'll add my opinions here:

Jaws - 8
The Shawshank Redemption - 3 (I don't dig prison movies)
Halloween - 1
Raiders Of The Lost Ark - 8
Back To The Future - 8
Caddyshack - 8
The Karate Kid - 6 (Mr. Miyagi is a Packers fan and that kid was like 22 when he was casted so this entire movie is a sham)
Gladiator - 0 (I can't stand Crowe)
A Christmas Story - 7 (OVALTINE #####ES. Doombot fuel)
Shrek - 0 (Most overrated animated film ever...most overrated film ever)
Starship Troopers - -3 (Yes, that's a negative sign)

8 out of 10. Amazing soundtrack. Really funny. High quotability.

Amazing soundtrack. Really funny. High quotability.
All that, with parts Belushi and Ackroyd were born to play.
My favourite comedy/musical, and one of my only 10's.

The 2000 sequel was more like a shoddy remake, and really only for people that
wanted to enjoy it. It's better to rewatch the original.

Blues Brothers had it all. Great humor, music, action and one of the greatest car chases of all time.

The original was so classic I have never been able to make myself watch 2000.

I do wish that their country set had been on the soundtrack album.

I think that of all the movies we've had so far the only one I've voluntarily watched more that this is Blazing Saddles - and that's not a definite.

Going with only whole numbers for voting, this has to be a 10.

I do hope you voted in the Blazing Saddles one of these if youre a fan G, that film sure could use a boost in its overall scoring. :)

As for The Blues Brothers, a true classic no doubt, with 2 of the funniest darn actors of that time (and in the late John Belushi's case, in any time). A very fun storyline, with a nice mix of characters and actors (even a young Steven Spielberg at the end if the film in what could be his only acting movie performance). And as mentioned, the music was great (especially Aretha Franklin), the jokes were plentiful, and the movie was overall one of my favorite comedies to date (along with Blazing Saddles, Airplane, etc.)

I wont go so far as to give it a perfect 10, but I will give it a 9.50, and highly recommend this one to anyone who hasnt seen it.

And sorry Aeturnus, while Id love to get more voters on those earlier films, which ANYONE here can do as they are always OPEN, Ill need you to put those in their appropriate threads if you want them to count. (oh, and 1 to 10 please, no 0s or negative numbers) :)

Do ypu know what. I don't like this movie. i know everyone says it's a classic, and I've heard great things, but when I try and watch it, I just can't stand it. I don't know why, it seems like the type of movue I'd like, but I just really don't. I can't give it more then a 6.5

Absolute home town bias here - this was the movie that turned on Hollywood to Chicago as a great location. "Yup. This is definitely Lower Wacker Drive." Belushi's comic timing was never better and the soundtrack jumpstarted the careers of a host of incredible musicians (Aretha Franklin, James Brown, and Ray Charles to name the most obvious ones). The Maxwell Street scenes are a historical snapshot of a unique neighborhood that has since been lost to development. It ranks alongside Ghostbusters as the most quotable movie of a generation and the car chase through the mall remains a miracle of old fashioned stunt driving (nuts to you digital technology). And the final chase scene with the Illinois N*zis (concluding with "I've always loved you.") surpasses Apocalypse Now for the best use of Wagner in a film score. I'd give this an 11 if I could. A perfect 10.

Careful. This movie was good. damn good... but I don't know if it's 10 good. definitely 9 good...... but 10 good? 10? 10?!? 10? ok, ya talked me into it......
a 10.

I may have to add Ghostbusters to this list.... but only barely.

Great movie entertainment, a definite classic for sure. Great songs from some great performers and love the car chase. The movie seems to go on forever, there's so much happening. If I'd paid to see this at the movies I'd have gotten my money's worth for sure. Something I don't mind catching every few years on TV - not something I'd make a point to watch nowadays but has to be seen at least once by everybody. I'd rate it 8.5 out of 10.

I really want to like it but I just don't find it funny, in fact I have never been able to stay awake all the way through. Jon Belushi is great but Akroyd bores me to death ever since I saw Dragnet. maybe the end is great but sadly I may never know.
I give the first half of this 4 out of 10

Oh and I didn't see the shrek thread but I have to say that i wish that this movie was a person so that I could fight it. Mike Myers is not funny and scottish accents are even less funny coupled with the new family friendly Murphy and god-awful Diaz this is one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

I Hate SHREK in fact I could spend whole afternoons just happily looking at the box and hating it. I give it a -0 out of a billion and wish it horrible things.

8/10 mostly for it's cult importance

I've watched it again yesterday.
7/10 from me.

That's pretty high considering it doesn't really have a story, but rather continuing excuses to let people sing.
It's nice to see, though, that once upon a time musicians were succesful not because of their looks but because of their talent.

Actually the only musical comedy I can stand ... And a great movie! Hilarious (the scene at the orphanage with the Penguin , the gig in the country pub , etc ...), great music (even more than great in fact), and Jake & Elwood .

Won't give every movie a 10, so this one will get a solid :
9.50/10.

10/10 I'm from Chicago. If I don't vote like this they will kick me out. SERIOUSLY.

I'd give it that anyways though. This movie IS chicago. Its great, its music is top notch. There's nothing bad about it.
