Is anyone reading Y the last man or Fables I have been thinking about picking up one and or the other but was looking for some outside feedback before I spent money on the trades, so let me know what you guys think.

Y: The Last Man is excellent.

I read both and think they are great. Fables just gets better and better. And Y is a fun read. It started off a little stronger than it's been lately, but I think it is worth checking out.

Y: the Last Man is great. I would definately give the first trade a shot. It has pretty sophisticated subtext wrapped up in a pretty fun story.

I haven't tried Fables yet. I have heard it's more comparable to Willinghan's work on Elementals, as opposed to Robin. That is to say that it's actually pretty good.

I'll agree that Y has slipped a bit. It will really only take one good story to bring it back.

I'm really enjoying Y myself, though I read by the trade so I may not be noticing the slight slips other people have since I'm not quite as current. I do consider it one of my favourite series right now, if not my favourite.

Haven't read Fables myself, but I've only heard good things.

I only read the trades as well but I thought that the last one (5) wasn't as strong as the first four.

As others have said--

Y has been declining for a bit now, but I think it's still quite good regardless.

Fables is consistently great.

But obviously some people won't 'get' them and totally miss the point, so if you're not intrigued after the first volume of each I'd suggest passing on the rest.

Well, the last one that came out was actually the sixth one, Girl on Girl. I won't spoil it in case you're not just mixing it up a little, but I can see how the ending might be a bit souring.

Yup, it was six afterall. Not the best but still good.

I read Y: in trade form, so I'll chime in here too- like most people in the thread I loved the first five trades and was somewhat less enchanted with Girl on Girl, the sixth. However, it's still a great read, and the storyline has me sucked in. Knowing it has a finite conclusion ahead keeps me interested, as I know that even when it's slow it's not going to drag on forever.

Oh, and I'm also interested enough in the characters that even when the story is dragging on a bit I can still enjoy the interplay between them. 355 is terrific :)

Does anyone know how long Y is supposed to run? Will it be 9 trades like Preacher?

I seem to remember hearing something about a five-year run, so that'd be 60 straight-up issues. The trades seem to vary in length, so who knows how that'll actually play out (Ring of Truth was HUGE).

I was listening to the Garden State Soundtrack and now I've decided that "Only Living Boy in New York" by Simon And Garfunkle should be on the Soundtrack of Y the Last Man (if they ever make one).

Sorry for the tangent.

According to Vaughn he's only taking Y until around 55 or 56 issues (last I read on his site anyway) so I think that's about 9 trades. Probably for the best because it's definitely not series that could last for much longer then that.

Actually I think Y: could make a very good HBO miniseries. It's finite, has tons of good parts for women, and has plenty of swearing and violence and humor. It's also got a nice broad appeal, not just to comic fans. It also appeals to fans of post-apocalyptic stuff, and people who are hoping to see women make out.

I thought about that as well. I just throw it in my big bag of wishes that never come true though. :ermm:

I heard the official length was 5 years or 60 issues. Though I guess he can run it less and still make it 5 calendar years if not 5 actual.

We really need to get that edit button back.

Anyway it's 60 issues. As relayed by BKV himself here: Brian K. Vaughn's website (http://www.bkv.tv)
