I was very disappointed with this film. I didn't see it when I was a kid, but for years I heard about the monumental battle between the Autobots and Decepticons at the opening of the movie. I couldn't believe how lame it was when I actually managed to see it for myself. After that it was a bunch of new characters that I didn't care about. The fact that the movie's theme song was the same tune Dirk Diggler was singing in Boogie Nights didn't help any. His version wasn't any better than the one used for the movie either!

So this film has absolutely zero positive things about it at all to you? None? The animation, the music, the songs, the characters, they were all mind-blowingly horrible to you? In your mind its one of the worst films in the history of cinema? (because thats where a 1 puts this)

Just asking is all, your 1 will surely count, though while I agree that this film lacked loads seeing it as an adult, over first seeing it as a child, saying there is absolutely NOTHING good about this film in the least is saying quite a bit.

I haven't seen Transformers completely in years. Watched it at a friends house when some version of it was released but never got past the first half hour or so. The nolstagia alone earns at least a six. But I remember being pleasantly surprised watching some of it as an adult and things about it that couldn't have impressed me as a child.

Rating: 8.0

Just to add, as a fan I thought from beginning to end this was exceptionally climactic in terms of these characters and these stories. It was unique in that I wasn't so confident the heroes would prevail. That never happens in this genre.

BEST...ANIMATED...MOVIE...EVER!

9

Does it have CGI flow-slo-mo bullet time green screen computer generated soul infused graphics? No. What it does have is great animation, excellent fight scenes, a rocking score and a host of guest voices (Judd Nelson, Robert Stack, Orson Wells, Lenord Nemoy, Eric Idle etc).

An all together awesome pic, the holy grail of Transformers fans and the inspiration for years of the excellent Marvel UK tranformers storylines.

I'd like to DARE to use THE TOUCH on you with my INSTRUMENTS OF DESTRUCTION for giving it a 1! You DARE TO BE STUPID? You won't ESCAPE our HUNGER, because NOTHIN' GONNA STAND IN OUR WAY! ;)

I mean a 1 when he cites as an example of a 4 Jaws the revenge? :o

Animation was good, story was not, and the cursing was not either. Optimus Prime died for who the heck knows what reason. Fan reaction was so bad, that they had to re-write the script for the GI Joe film. Duke was originally supposed to die, but after Prime's death, that was changed.

Ultra Magnus cursing when the matrix wouldn't open and so forth. The redeeming part are the fights put to the music (Wierd Al's 'Dare To Be Stupid').

The GI Joe movie was a lot better.

GI Joe "cobra commander is actually part of a race of ancient serpent men alien things and sergeant Slaughter fighting the super snake man" the movie?!?

I'm sorry but it was one of the most awful toy tie-ins to slither out of the 80's, the Power Rangers the movie of its day.

Prime died to create the sense of dispair and fleeting hope as the Autobots struggle to save the universe and find new hope and salvation in a new leader.

Ultra Magnus saying "Damn it, open!" ruined the movie for you, are you serious? I don't know what fan reaction you're describing but every fan I knew loved it.

I honestly can't think of a single thing I enjoyed about the movie. I'd rather watch Plan 9 FOS that Transformers. At least Plan 9 is fun to make fun of. Transformers took something I cared about a great deal at the time and turned it into dreck.

Im going to agree with Maniac here and say that overall the GI Joe movie is better than the Transformers one. Beginning to end, it was an enjoyable film, while TF seemed to fall flat from the midpoint to the anti-climatic ending.

Now, I wont go so low as to give this film a 4, but I will agree that after seeing it a few times as an adult I was a bit let down from it really. The first 1/2 was GREAT, I loved it. Great seeing Unicron casually eat and planet and kill millions of robotic beings like it was nothing to him. Great seeing Megatron KILL some of the most popular Autobots on his way to earth, such as Racket, Brawn and Ironhide. Great seeing the very cool, and Final G1 battle, of the Decepticons vs the Autobots (and the fear in Cups heart as Devastator is summoned). And Great seeing THE MAN, Optimus Prime, use up every ounce of energy he had, and his life, to turn the tide and claim victory for his team. Even seeing Unicron turn Megatron into Galvatron was very cool, not to mention his return and Utter Destruction of Star Scream.

Up to this point, this was a very enjoyable and well made film.....But

It just got too dopey after that. Junkions, the Quintessions (eh, they were OK, but their scene was pretty useless really), the little rhyming robot kid, and a few other parts, just made me wish I knew what happend from the first 1/2 to the second.

Not a horrible film by any stretch, it also wasnt that great. The songs I felt added to it overall, The Touch, Transformers Main Title, Dare, etc were all very cool. But all in all, it was a film that started Great, and ended Eh. (Unlike the GI Joe film which besides a few slow parts in the middle was really very good throughout).

Transformers - 6.25 / 10

I would give it a solid 8 as an adult, but a kid factor of 10. Plausible story, great songs, good characters. I liked GI Joe The Movie, but outside of introducing new characters it was like any other Joe cartoon. New enemy, Joe's are losing then one Joe comes along and uses new weapon to save the day; pretty much an hour and a half standard episode. And Transformers actually effected the series, if I recall correctly GI Joe went right back like nothing changed. Don't get me wrong I loved both films (I have both on DVD and VHS) but I think Transformers is the better of the two.

There is no better toy -related cartoon movie. EVER! G.I. Joe was good, but Transformers was GREAT! As a 6th garder, when that movie came out, I cried when Prime 'died.' As was stated the movie affected the series, had a phenominal cast, great animation, and was laid out well! I can watch it over and over, and never like it any less than the first time I watched it.

I can't believe all of these bad reviews :o

Maybe it's because I grew up reading the Marvel UK Transformer comics and they had a huge time travelling spin off from the movie that turned in to a 5 year epic storyline? I guess maybe I'm drawing on more associated good emmories or something? If you get the chance to read the Marvel UK transformers run do so, you may have new appreciation for the movie. If not it was still a great comic

I NEVER thought I could find another villain as alluring and interesting as Dr. Doom until my sons shared Transformers G1 with me and I was able to witness the Greatness of G1 Megatron. T-G1 became a great time in the upraising of my sons and the movie was supposed to be a climax in our fandom. Then we witnessed the majority of the characters we loved slaughtered in the first 30minutes of the movie for the sake of blatant marketing manipulation at its highest. Transformers are no doubt cool, but no storyline or toy manipulates for the sake of toy sales like they do! That includes anything Barbie has tried. The movie left us feeling used although we did enjoy parts of it. But it didn't make up for our favorites we had to give up. I give it a 5, and long live Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave, Rumble, Ravage, Laserbeak, Hound, Wheeljack, Prowl, Iron Hide, Ratchet, Bumblebee, Thundercracker, Skywarp------------------

I SERIOUSLY reccomend the Marvel UK comic run. You get to see the Megatron inside of the Galvatron, not to mention they actually meet up which is all kinds of fun!

Pretty much what I was saying. All the Transformer fans I've known personally hated the movie for the fact it killed off all the 'good' characters. Megatron, Optimus, Ironsides, Soundwave, Wheeljack, Prowl, etc.

All of them killed off for no darn good reason other then shock value, and to sell the new line.

Seriously, GI JOE really did go back are rewrite the script so that Duke would no longer die. People, in general, were not happy seeing all these kids characters bite the big one.

The Transformers really weren't the Transformers anymore at that stage. Everything was basically 'in the future' now, the characters started to go 'Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers' (ie this episode we introduce the super ultra killer major supreme death zord, who's way more powerful then the ultra killer major supreme death zord, go go rediculous ammounts of power that will basically be an 80-86 vs a P4 next episodes killer death machine).

GI Joe I never lost interest in (it may have helped I was a military brat, so GI Joe was pretty much the coolest thing ever), Transformers I did with the movie (still watched it, just not like I watched GI JOE).

Part of being a kid is getting to see your heros always come out on top. The good guy always wins the day, and the guy in the white hat always triumphs. When John Wayne comes in on his white horse, of course the bad guys are going to loose at that point. He's not supposed to get shot to pieces, the homestead razed, and the women raped so that the new flashy Vin Diesel wannabe can come in and go all medieval on them.

I remember the summer this movie came out, I saw it 7 times (A record for me destined never to be broken). However, I rarely watch it now. It just hasn't held up the older I get.

However, as d-knight alluded to the Soundtrack to me is still awesome. And the fact that Dirk Diggler sang the Stan Busg classic 'You got the touch' in my fav movie of all time Boogie Nights is a big plus.

Also, as I still love Transformers G1, it makes it harder to watch that they kill off most of the characters I love early on and replace them with some pretty lame one-Wheelie amongst them . Unicron however, still kicks butt and that needs to be recognized.

I give the movie a 7

And I ask the one question I've waited most of my life for an answer to:

Where the heck was Snarl????

I saw this after i saw the huge disapointment that was GI JOE the movie and I was blown away. I just bought the DVD for four dollars and it still stands up. This movie is good on every level, I have never even collected transformers or really watched the old cartoons but this movie is great even to a non transformer fan and how many films of this ilk can you say that about.

I give it a cha-chi-chi-chi-cha -cho-chi 7.6 out of 10

people don't like it because Prime and Megatron died ?!

I loved it for it (although they are awesome..) and got alive back in the comics/series.
yes it was done to boost the sales of the newer characters, but it was also a bold decision to make.

Mr.Spock doing Galvatron's voice: awesome !!:classic:

This is because I have seen TF2 recently and Transformers the Movie several times, but I have only seen Michael Bay's TF once and that was like 3 years ago so I don't remember it well enough to rate. I'll rate it once I have seen it again on DVD (or maybe Blu-Ray)
