So, our next film, Classic or Crud, Hit or Miss, what say you ALL?

Our next film open for discussion, and ultimately an Overall RATING by you all:

POLTERGEIST

Let the discussions flow. Likes, dislikes, classic film or overhyped trash, and DONT FORGET to place an Overall Rating when youre done.

Its easy, just give a Rating from 1 (Jaws 4:The Revenge) to 10 (Jaws), and thats it. Course I'd love to have you all give reasons as to why you feel it deserves this Overall Rating, and more than encourage discussions with us all about them.

So, what say you all?

Poltergeist was really fun. A good popcorn movie. Lots of good scares and jumps. A great movie, no, but certainly recommended

6.5 of 10.

I saw this movie when I was really little (5-ish?) because my parents failed to realize that it came out prior to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and therefore the PG-13 rating. It haunted my dreams for many years to come. There were maggots.

Ouch, a bit low on the scores for this one for me. I loved this film, and its as eerie now as when I first saw it way back when. (sheesh, the freaking clown scene earns at least 3 points by itself) I think this is probably my favorite Haunted House film ever, and that music by Jerry Goldsmith is classic and added heaps to the thrills and chills of this picture. Yes, its not a TRUE Horror Movie in the sense the the blood was very minimal and in the end no one died, but this film proved you dont need a high body count or loads of gore to scare the pants off of your audience. This is definately not your average scary movie to me, and it has already stood the test of time, and then some. Great story, acting, music, directing (Kudos to Hooper or Spielberg, whoever directed this one in the end, :), they did a great job) and it was as fun and enjoyable as it was eerie and suspenseful.

Poltergiest: 8.75 / 10

Those are some pretty low scores considering the cultural influence, the names on this project (the aforementioned Goldsmith, Hooper and Speilberg) and of course that Clown sequence which scared the carap out of me as a child. Good film and a memorable 80s classic.

Rating: 8.5

I'm kind of disappointed that I didn't catch these thread sooner as some of my favorite movies/least favorite movies are poorly represented (It breaks my heart to see the movies above Shawshank that aren't the Godfather, among other things). But I digress, being a student of film, I believe it is my job to give my opinion on such matters, ha. Its been a few years since I've seen Poltergeist, so here it goes:

Poltergeist is a popcorn movie, through and through, and most horror movies are (see The Shining for one that isn't). Craig (The Coach) Nelson, as Dad is laughable at times but manages to put forth a solid role as panicked father. The movie overall is pretty comical, sorry to those who were scarred by it as children, but it is. But alas, it is a classic piece of the horror genre. I fail to remember any "cultural influences", but like I said, it was a while back that I saw this one.

Favorite Scene - The scene where coach is in the swimming pool and all the bodies start popping up out of the water. This scene really embodies, the shizz hitting the fan.

Rating - 5 average

I was just going to say that these Rate The Movie threads are always OPEN, so if you missed one, just do a quick and easy search, and post your thoughts and rating there........unlike youre like lensnart and are going to lower the overall rating of Raiders Of The Lost Ark. :):p

Unfortunately, I cant take scores for other movies from this one, so feel free to find the thread youre looking for (really easy to do), and participate right there.

Very enjoyable horror film. That damn clown was the creepiest thing about the film.
