Ah Grease...the classic movie. I was made to watch this film a lot when I was younger, However I have watched it recently willingly a few times, and it is definitely a classic movie. I was also in my Schools production of it (in the chorus)
I say
6.5 out of 10

You say this is a "classic movie" twice in your post, yet you only give it a 6.5 out of 10??? Sheesh, what does it take to get a 7 with you, a Cinematic Masterpiece? :)
Personally for me, this is one film that both my wife and I love (its one of her favorites). Ive been listening to the soundtrack for as long as I can remember, and its still great to listen to now as when I was a young child.
Unlike most movie musicals (especially of the time) this has edge, it has bite, its not just about happy go lucky songs and melodies, they sing about sex, drugs and rock and roll. Such songs like Grease Lightning, Summer Nights, Sandra Dee, Beautyshool Dropout and Rizzo's solo (Thats The Last Thing I Would Do?) all have very adult themes to them.
The cast of characters, the story, the music, everything in this one is timeless to me, and one could watch this film and love it for the first time now as someone could have 25 years ago. One of my favorite live action movie musicals of all time (along with Moulin Rouge) and to me this is a classic that has already stood the test of time. Loads of fun, through and though, singing or no.
Grease: 9.25 / 10
Grease is a movie I would almost call timeless (if not for the ever-lingering time setting that can feel campy at times). The soundtrack is terrific, featuring songs that the young and old alike both know and love. It never takes itself too seriously while at the same time maintaining a sense of realism. I could certainly see kids being like that. Wanting to change for someone you care deeply about, but at the same time trying to remain true to yourself.
Many of the characters have real depth to them, far exceeded the one dimension that we sometimes get from musicals (Rizzo, for example). As far as musicals go, they did everything right. As far as movies go, they definitely did great job making sure it would remain in the pages of history.
My rating: 9.0
I agree. I classic all the way. I was in the mall the other say, and in one store, they were playing the Grese sound track, and it made me happy. Unlike with some other musicals, the songs can stand alone. (Well, not all of them, but some). The plot was mature enough so it was interesting, but no so mature that kids couldn't watch it. I like this movie. My rating...
9.2

Heh heh, Classic in the sense that everyone knows what it is and most probably has seen it, and obviously awesome script / songs etc, but just I personally wouldnt rate it as high as other classics - e.g. Die Hard (Classic!) Jurassic Park (Classic!)
Do you see what I mean? :)

The movie gets 6.5/10 from me.
"Tell me more! Tell me more!"
Okay, okay. The songs are really catchy for the most part and the choreogaphy is really great. The story isn't spectacular, though, and neither is the acting.
"Tell me more! Tell me more!"
Geez. Although the setting is nice I'm not really hot about all the stereotypes. It's surprising how cute Olivia Newton-John is in this movie and Travolta has great hair, but stealing the James Dean shtick isn't fair, with Dean being dead and all.
"Tell me more! Tell me more!"
Enough already! Can it!

Hrm. This movie was all the rage when I was 10 and in fifth grade. I had the soundtrack on vinyl! I agree that the songs are catchy, and I still know them by heart many years later. I happened to catch part of the movie one day, and it was not as good as I remembered it from childhood. Still, it is entertaining, and I give it a 6/10.

I'm sorry but this breaks my streak of rating movies well. Grease has everything I dislike in a film and then manages to find some extra things I don't like. Firstly, other than his role as Vincent Vega, John Travolta has served as the most vexing man in hollywood to me for all my time on Earth. Secondly, the music...ugh, annoying and repititive. Thirdly, the campiness...that kind of style has always rubbed me the wrong way. With all that said, this is a perfect example of film I refuse to rate too low due to it's obvious culture impact alone.

This movie is painful to me...literally. I remember when I was a pup, we had a neighbor that would play the Grease album as loud as she could all the time. I hated it. I hate anything 50's. I saw the movie as a kid and hated it.
Then I got older. I met a girl that liked the movie and I twitched whenever she brought it up. But I agreed to watch the movie again to give it a fair chance. Perhaps it was all in my head. No. I hated it. I still hate it. I still twitch when I hear any songs or lines from it.
But I can't rate the movie solely on my disdain for the 50's. I can, however, rate it based on the fact that it's a poor attempt at a musical, it's terrible acting, and the fact that it has no point.
And for all that, it STILL isn't as bad as Titanic or Bring It On.

I actually got the lead in the fourth grade (my school had very slim pickings and I had the leather jacket) for this one.
The movie is okay, teaches fairly immoral values, has John Travolta in it.
The music is catchy and okay at times, and the comedy is pretty good.
I'd give it a 7/10 for sentimental value mostly.
I guess I'll give it a 7.0, if only because of the Babylon 5 connection.

What's the Babylon 5 connection?
I'm glad you asked. :)
Kenickie (the guy with the nice car who should've been the one to sing Greased Lightning until John Travolta stole his thunder but that's another story) in Grease is played by Jeff Conaway, who also played Garibaldi's second-in-command, Zack Allen, in Babylon 5. (I'm sure with Bobby from Taxi there's a 6 degrees to Kevin Bacon in all that)

Ah yes, now that you bring it up, I do remember hearing that he was in Grease as well.

Grease is definitely one of my favourite movies and thats not just cause it was the first movie I ever saw and I can remember seeing it like it was yesterday.
I could watch it again and again and again and I'd never get tired of it. I love the music and the story.
I rate it 10 out of 10
:ermm: a tough one. The movie haunted my childhood (damned bro' and sis') although I never liked musicals... Still there are some scenes that I like (they surely make me smile, and even sing sometimes... yes I'm ashamed :p), and plenty others that I dislike. However watching Grease is pretty entertaining with a little help from your friends (amongst other things :p), and there's always the "where-the-hell-is-Lorenzo-Lamas" game so:
6/10.

Yeah, 7/10
Has lots of good songs, and some dull as hell ones.
But it's generally entertaining.
