It's long. It's boring.
At the end I was begging for them to drown.

I can't rate it, though, because I haven't seen it completely.

Here's the story: I was on a bus going to Italy, which is a looooong drive.
Some time in the driver turned on the video system and it started showing John Carpenter's Vampires. I was like "Hell yeah!", but then it switched to Titanic and I switched to "Hell no!"
Usually I can't sleep on a bus, but this movie was better than a sleeping pill. Hours later I awoke and the #### was still going on.
Damn you, busdriver! You owe me a showing of a decent vampire movie!

Meh, I appear to like it more than Emp.

Its a good movie I suppose, and I do like the effects, and its quite magnificent to see. And you get to see Kate Winslets breasts, which is friggin awesome.

6 out of 10.

Personally, and I may be in the minority on this one, but I really and truly enjoyed this film. Sure its long, but boring, not for me. Heck, they hit the iceberg and the ship starts to go down at the halfway mark (only 1 1/2 hours in) and from then on it its excitement, awe and even a bit of action. Sure the first half may be a bit slow, but its the set up point, total drama, where we have to be introduced to everyone in the film, and the ship itself. The special effects I thought were Top Notch, amazingly well done, especially when the boat sinks and breaks apart at the end, but also just the scenes that make us believe the Titanic was alive and well again. To me I felt for those who didnt make it out of the water alive. I cursed those crewmen who either wouldnt go back for more or left when their boats were only half full. I was disheartened at the thought of those poor familities at the bottom excepting their place as lesser people knowing full well they were going to die, so the upperclass could live. I thought this film did a great job of combining a love story in with the sinking of the Titanic, and both James Cameron and James Horner created some truly dramatic (and at times overly dramantic) and emotional pieces of film. Well done I say to this film, and if Im the only one you really enjoyed this one, so be it. :)

Titanic - 9 / 10

(Heres hoping we all dont give this one a crud score solely based on the Vast Overplaying of Celine Dions "My Heart Will Go On" on the radio, Lord knows thats why my wife hates this film :))

I think I can safely say I've sat through this movie enough to give it a fair rating. This film does have some serious drawbacks...it is quintessential hollywood and oozes an untimely pop culture that I despise. However, accolades to James Cameron for a well shot big budget epic that worked for a lot of people. This aimed heavily and obviously at making some serious money and it did just that...for better or worse because like anything that makes money these days, art often suffers to make way for the things that tickle the eyes of the most general demographic that a product is marketed towards. A lot of great films are guilty of this but Titantic doesn't quite earn respect from me because it wasn't compelling enough and was a bit too boring.

Well, it was nice eye candy. Billy Zane got to play smarmy. Leo Di Caprio played pretty boy...... it's nice, I guess, but a bit long. Did we really need the snide classism? Well, actually, maybe we did since that's how it played out. Was it as good as the press? I think it was a good case of Synchronicity; in the right place at the right time.... would the first Batman movie with Michael Keaton do as well today as when it first came out? no. Many years from now people will watch this who missed it in the theaters and wonder "This made that much money? How?"

My score:
3 for fantastic set design, costumes, etc plus 4 because we got to see Kate Winslets beauties but subtract 1 because Leo DiCaprio is in it for a grand total of;
6

the Movie means a lot to me in different ways because was the premier the best and worst year of my life: 1997.

Was the favorite movie of the Love of my life, and was the movie what we watch when we just date.

The tittle was in the leter what she leave when she leave me. "My heart will go on" wrote the bird

But with the time "My heart will go on" also means try to live without her, and in time she say that to me in a good way when she confess what still love me.

I do a scale model of the titanic for her, but i never give to her that, but was eough for never do a model kit to scale again of anything (if not clix or Star Trek relative)

When she leave me forever (don't know if is was her fault or my or only God knows who) still I have that movie and that song for made me remember what she (in some time in her life) Love me as far as she can.

That movie made me remeber the end of the movie when you can see a lot of pictures or "Rose" who live a long of things: ride horse, travel, be a flydriver, have a family everything.

That movie made me remember what i live representing all the people what I carry inside me and I have to share ad far as I can who I'm because who I'm is a lot from the people who love me in my past and maybe don't exist now, but they are in me, in the things what i do and in my way to be.

That movie made me hate of envy (no anymore) to Di Caprio, and laugh about the stupid girl who cry for that "Jack" character, that movie also made me love Kate Winstlet, she is (fat but) beauty and sometime I still cry with that movie.

In the end that movie made me remember what I have to live a lot of things, my life must be a adventure.

specific about the movie you can easy divide in 2 parts, the first part what everubody call boring is actually kind, a romantic story naive but kind.

The second part is a adventure and a fight for survive and a lot of black, white and greys of how you face yor fate, and how you can twist your fate or how face your final journey in your life:

You can choise be brave, be funy, be scary, be strong, be a hope of another, be and take responsabilitis, be ruin, corrupted, bad or be a hero.

The only thing what i don't like about the ovie and about everything is: The big money what Cameron and the people who do this movie take thanks to a tragedy.

Anyways this movie is one of the best of all times and is enough long and with soo different things what you can have your own version of what you can learn or enjoy.

A lot of times the thing or person "boring" are in that way just because we don't want take the time to "swing" inside of that thing, movie or person, we leave in fast times and sometime is faster considere be above of persons, movies and things for not take the time of understand and enjoy the small joys of the life.

6.5/10. I'd give it lower marks but the costuming, sets, ship and Leonardo Di Caprio death push it up. Not as good as the quick and the dead where he cries before kicking the bucket but a Leo death is a Leo death :p ;)

Titanic was one of those movies that I avoided for forever. Wish I could have done so even longer but I promised my (now) wife that I'd watch it. She's a huge Kate Winslett fan so she loved it. I personally hated the movie. I was bored from intro to ending.

I've heard many declare they despised the love story but loved the special effects. I didn't like either. I can't figure out which was more painful to watch: Leo spouting lines with more modern colloquialisms, his robotic "love" scenes with Kate, or the dragging special effects scenes. Even Chuck Norris couldn't save this piece of gutter trash.

We're looking at a -44 right here.

I remember craving Taco Bell. I was young, so I didn't own a car. EVERYONE I KNEW WAS AT THIS DAMN MOVIE ON OPENING NIGHT, and I didn't eat those yummy tostadas (y'all better remember those cause that's the first thing I'm bringing back when I win the Earth off galactic lotteries) 'til the next day.

Sad panda.

Leo couldn't act.
The love story was trite and too predictable.
The scenery and costumes were good.
The movie was too long. All the time I kept thinking, "Dammit. I have to pee."

Overall - the film sucked, but had some sort of appeal.

4/10 and I'm being generous.

I thought it was a decent movie for what it was. Honestly, I only saw it once and my memories of it are a bit vague, so I'm pretty much going on general impressions that I enjoyed it well enough. Would I go out of my way to spend another 3 1/2 hours to see it again, maybe not. But if it were on, and I were in the mood for a purely escapist sort of entertainment, I might let myself get sucked into it.

6.5 of 10, I guess. I'd have to see it again before I gave it anything stronger.

Funniest movie thread so far, mmmm feel the hate. Me, I like this film. It is competently made with plenty of detail, I'd like to think it's not going to date at all. I don't care too much for romance but it's tolerable as there's enough of the other stuff to keep my interest. The Titanic story still holds a lot of mystery for some and this movie has a great atmosphere. Don't hate it just because of Leo! After his fate what are you complaining about. Ok it takes a while to get to that point and it's the length of the film that makes me think twice about watching the film.

Okay, I'm probably the only person I know that saw this movie as a form of sociopolitical protest. I was living in Korea when it first hit the theatres and, in the space of a couple of weeks, you couldn't walk ten feet without running into some street vendor selling totally unauthorized disco versions of "My Heart Will Go On" by random Korean pop artists. Every movie house was totally sold out, and I had students skipping classes so they could see it a fifth or sixth time (I didn't complain - I figured, heck, they're getting a three-hour English lesson for less than a tenth of what I'd be charging them - and their parents paid me whether they showed up or not). So there's this huge Titanic mania gripping the country and I've got random people asking me if I'm related to Leonardo DiCaprio because I'm a round-eyed blond guy and hey, that's practically a DNA match to them. That's when it starts. Korean media outlets start trotting out this hilarious story about Leonardo DiCaprio badmouthing Korea to Japanese TV. Well, it's hilarious to me, anyway. Koreans at the time weren't exactly media savvy (they've come a long way in a short time, I'll give them that). So they buy this story without asking why Leo would give a tinker's damn about Korea and what he'd be doing discussing it with Japanese television. I did my little part to stem the tide by teaching all of my classes that week about the words "propaganda," "media spin," and "urban legend." But I could only do so much and ticket sales for Titanic dropped just in time for a new *Korean* romance movie to debut at the theatres (not a single one of my students made the connection between those two events). I saw it as my duty to help James Cameron and the march of McGlobalization resist this attack by an upstart Pacific Rim state and its overly gullible populace. That weekend, a bunch of us expats trekked out to one of the theatres that was still showing Titanic. The film stock had very obviously degraded from repeated viewings, so some of the effects were lost on us (the night scenes were especially bad). And the Kate Winslet nude scene was cut entirely because of local censorship laws (Korean storytelling apparently doesn't place a lot of emphasis on continuity, because none of my students ever asked where that drawing of Rose came from, either). Three and a half hours later, I left the theatre, feeling like I'd taken one for the team. I'd endured 200-some minutes of treacle and death by hypothermia, with only an exceptionally sleazy scene-stealing performance by Billy Zane to soften the blow. And that's why I'm willing to give this film a 5. That's three points for the hubris that Cameron exhibited thinking that this bloated metaphor-as-movie-as-metaphor would do dollar one at the box office, a point for Billy Zane (because he's like James Spader - I'll give anything he's in a shot, just because it's fun to watch 'em both chew up the scenery), and a point for showing us that Hollywood can still build 'em bigger and...okay, maybe not better, but certainly bigger than the rest of the world.

I first saw this movie in the theatre. It was the first movie my now-ex and I went to together.

Now, I can't watch the movie anymore without being reminded of her. Which is a bad thing since she put me through the equivalent of Hell.

That being said, I can't give a fair vote since it will most likely be subconsciously tainted. :ermm:

Although, I did like the soundtrack.

Titanic was yet another in a long line of formulaic, cookie cutter action/romance films. It was just more expensive to make. It was almost as bad as Pearl Harbor, but not quite. Even leaving out the history behind the events, there still wasn't a single event that took place in this movie that couldn't be predicted by anyone who put their minds to it. The fact that the movie made so much money is a testament to the complete stupidity of the majority of people in the world.

Funny, as a die hard movie fan (obviously), and someone who thoroughly enjoyed this film, I dont think "complete stupidty" really falls into my opinion of my own taste in movies.

You dont like the film, in fact you hated it, thats totally fine, but lets not get all attacking or harshly labelling those that did like or love this one (that again would be me) just because their taste in movies differs from yours.

The movie does drag in areas, as we wait for the unevitable. The Sinking gets 8, the rest gets a 3. Average of 4. Not worth sitting through again. Of course- the final capper is the Celine Dion song "My Heart will go on" (sounds like the song will go on and on-certainly did on the radio and got her a job in Vegas- Thank God she's gone)- too bad she was not ON the Titanic too.

Actually, since the sinking was pretty much exactly half of the movie, that would be an average score of 5.5, not 4. (8 + 3 = 11 / 2 = 5.50) :):p

What can I say? I'm a film snob, and I have very little tollerance for movies I deem are stupid. I'm well aware that my tastes are not necessarily those of everyone, but I don't care.

On a personal note, I did not say that everyone who saw this movie or even liked it was completely stupid. I stated that the fact that it made so much money was an indicator to me of the stupidity of my fellow man. I don't blame people for seeing it once, or think they are dumb for doing so. Heck, I saw it once (although I wish I hadn't) or I wouldn't have rated it. What strikes me as stupid are the people who went to see it umpteen times and consider it their one of their favorite movies (and there are obviously alot of them due to the box office sales). If I gave personal offense to anyone who merely liked it, I apologize. As for those who are one of the people who went to see Titanic in theatres over and over again, I still maintain that you are quite stupid.

It does get too cheesy in parts, but I don't get all the hate for this movie. Leo is good as always, Winslett is the most talented actress working in films today and every scene is shot beatifully. If you cut out the awful soundtrack and the parts with the old lady and have it end at the Leo and Kate farewell scene this movie would be fantastic.

Even with all the bad parts I still say this movie deserves an 8 out of 10

Hmm...I thought I'd rated this one.

Honestly, I think part of the "Titanic" experience is the "Titanic" backlash. Let's be honest: when the movie came out, probably a ton of people that hate it now loved it then until they realized they'd gotten caught up in the momentum and soured on it. Meanwhile you have another part of the populace that was so annoyed at the "Titanic" experience that they were going to hate it, no matter what, just because everyone else was too caught up by it. There was probably a lot smaller portion than anyone realizes - or cares to admit - that just didn't like it because it didn't spin their gears but I suspect most vitriol towards the film developed for the first two reasons.

That's really neither here nor there because the point for me is to vote on the movie and, overall, I think it's a well done movie. There's a reason - beyond "mass hysteria" - that it won so freaking many Oscars. It was done on a large grand scale. It was a traditional love story - one shown on the Silver Screen in days gone past time and again - while at the same time having plenty of special effects to keep us men interested. It was fiction and truth and had fun with both (admit it - even if you hated the movie, watching it weren't you a bit curious as to what the actual event must have been like for the people on the true Titanic?). The soundtrack has become a joke from over-usage but it was originally quite enjoyable and the acting was surprisingly good from most everyone involved. You can almost think of "Titanic" as a marriage or long-term relationship that ended - it was epic, it struck you heavy at the time though maybe left you wondering why later and years down the road you still have strong feelings (good or bad) about it.

Score: 9.25

Neither deserving of the ridiculous accolades it received, nor the overly vitriolic backlash that followed, I found Titanic a good, solid story that kept my attention for it's long running time, punctuated by decent acting and great FX. My ex-wife drug me to the theater twice for this piece of crap. The best thing about it was a nude Kate Winslet and that was only for about 2 seconds of a 3 hour film (not sure exactly how long this film is). The look of the film keeps me from giving it a 1, plus Billy Zane was a real scumbag.
